a-guitarist
So, it's official. I have Celiac Disease which may be causing some of my other health issues. So I've come here for you're wealth of knowledge. I'm no longer allowed to ingest anything with Wheat in it, Rye and Barely either, and Oats are strongly suggested to be avoided. So, I need some suggestions for possible dinners/snacks/etc that don't taste like a monkey's asscrack, and might just taste nice. I also have some issues digesting Lettuce and other leafy greens without getting ill- although this might be related to Celiac. Anyways... I've found I can get around a lot of my dietary restrictions with simple substitutions (Instead of bread for Hot Turkey/Roast Beef sandwiches, put the meat/gravy on mashed potatoes), but... I've had enough Shepard's Pie the last few days to want to travel to Ireland and kill all people with a Staff and Fluffy white animals. The real problem is this... I used to be a big beer fiend. Where in, I did not get plastered, but I would enjoy many different types of beer for their flavour instead of the sole outcome of a rack of 'em. I know enough of wines where I can enjoy them, but... what wines are decent enough on the cheaper side? I live in the Finger Lakes region (actually very good friends with the Floor Manager at King Ferry Winery, which is good considering their Semi-Dry Riesling is my all time favorite), but I'm looking to diversify my tastes of Hazlett's Red Cat/Cabin Fever and Trealeven's Riesling. I'm not a huge sweet wine fan, nor a very dry fan. Or, any decent cocktails that aren't Whiskey/Scotch/Bourbon based? Gin is a family favorite, but we don't stray very far from Bombay Sapphire, and when we do it's usually to Beefeater. (Ef that Tanguary!). Jager is the devil, and I'll do my very best to only look at my lost soldier's collection of bottles on my fridge. So, thanks for any suggestions. a-g

Iusedtobesomebody
If you can take potatoes, Vodka is your friend. What about rice? Rice can be quite tasty when applied with the right spices. I prefer some butter, salt and garlic/onion mix. What about meats?
a-guitarist
Meats are fine, I prefer mine cooked, and not bloody or blue. Rice is always fun, specially when mixed with meat, cheese, tomato paste and red hot. a-g

Mudder
Is gluten the reasons you need to avoid these types of breads? If so, when i'm not about to pass out I will give you some good information about gluten substitutes, etc.
WarriorCleric
Well, if you ask me, and I know you're not, I'd say it's because of his inherent lack of manliness, poor personal hygiene, and complete disregard to to any form of self control. Still the family doctor may have mentioned that glutton free was the way to be, but I don't trust that doctor. He got a little too feely at my last physical and didn't laugh when I made a masturbation joke out of it. WC
Questioner
So' date=' it's official. I have Celiac Disease which may be causing some of my other health issues. So I've come here for you're wealth of knowledge.[/quote'] This is not exactly the forum for medical and health information. I highly recommend you see a dietician or doctor that specializes in that. We don't want to lose you because of misinformation.
a-guitarist
Questioner: Well, I've seen a medical professional, along with many many others. MRI's ain't cheap, I've learned, even with Medicare. What I was looking for was information on foods and drinks that were tastey, not a diagnosis. I do not self diagnose, and don't respect those that do. Had you read the whole post without jumping to the idea I was asking for medical advice, you would have realized the error. But, thanks for the concern. Last thing I need is Mya telling me quaff a Giant Growth potion when clearly I need a "cure disease" wand and Brsigner telling me to eat three blue pills. Mudder: Gluten is the reason I have to avoid these foods. I've been enjoying Rice Pasta for a few years now, as I've suspected a Gluten intolerance after I was warned of such by my doctor. However, it was just brought around to being diagnosed due to a poly nueropathy. If you've got gluten free recipes I would be in debt to you for about a week or so. I've tried the "breads" they've got that are Gluten free, but I don't feel like paying six or more dollars for something that has the taste and consistency of mold. Spelt Flour isn't too bad, and I'm learning how to use it correctly. I have recently had some delicious brownies topped with Andes Candies. WC: Peer drops the F-bomb and laughs about masturbation jokes with me all the time. "Well, you're upper body is symmetrical." "Oh, I switch between hands so that I give each side equal work outs." *both laughing, nurse looking uncomfortable* And as for my manliness... I would so whoop your ***, but I wouldn't want to dishonour your school. a-g
Dizz
I knew someone with Celiac Disease before. Here is some of the things he ate: Chili on Fries... (Anything on fries, really) Natural Ice Cream Rice cake pizza. (his mom shaped crushed rice cakes. I don't know how) Reeses cups. Also, yams and squash make a decent replacement for carbs. Spaghetti squash is a common substitute for pasta. I also have a recipe for no-flour peanut butter cookies if you want it. For wine, I like Mountain Burgandy and Cabernet Sauvegnon and White Zinfandel. I buy it boxed. Boxed wines are actually pretty good and it doesn't turn to vinegar since it doesn't get exposed to air when you pour it.
Mali
I'll get you the name of the folks who make gluten free pizza crusts. I also had a killer gluten free mac and cheese once. Off the top of my head, the only thing I can tell you is eat more vegetables, drink more water, and try some ezekial bread.
