BigPapa
Call it now. Fights on PPV Saturday night. I want BJ Penn to win, but my money is on GSP.
Twinblades713
Same thing for me. Rooting for BJ, but I think George has it.
npc_death
GSP because he's going to be able to take BJ down at will despite BJ's amazing takedown defense. That defense will work on almost all lightweights and most welterweights...not GSP though. I'm glad this is a 5-rounder, which gives GSP a greater shot at finishing BJ. I don't see BJ finishing GSP at all. My prediction: GSP by unanimous decision. I won't be too shocked if GSP manages a TKO at the end of round 4 or somewhere in round 5. Also, I'm very excited about Machida v. Silva. I'm hoping for Machida, but I don't know enough about Silva to make a prediction. In the only fight of his I watched, he crushed Houston Alexander, but that's not saying too much.

BigPapa
Npc you are some sort of Mystic. You hit it spot on. Great card, most fights going the distance. I cannot stand that Lyoto guy... frustrating to watch but effective.
Twinblades713
Damn. GSP ruined BJ Penn without a second thought. Lyoto Machida did damn well.
Iconz
Well... i honestly admit i thought GSP was gunna choke again... but Rush seems to be a whole new guy... good for him. BJ is still nasty in his own right tho... but GSP is makin a pound for pound run right now. Oh and bigups to Lyoto.. his style is a bit frustrating to watch... but he is so methodical. He frustrates people.. and as he showed... he has KTFO potential. Back to GSP... i think "Ms. White" is full of it... he said something along the lines that Anderson Silva is #1 pound-for-pound(agreed) and that GSP was definitely #2... thats a slap in the face to Emelianenko who just had a NASTY knockout the other night. IMO Fedor and Silva are tied P4P... and if not.. Fedor is blatantly #2... considering he hasnt had the chokejobs that GSP has shown. Anyone else hear about this GSP vaseline controversy? __________________ Iconz - Finds a new use for Vaseline every day...
Tantangel
Yeah, my brother and I discussed that a bit the other day while texting. I saw the first 3 rounds of the fight but didn't have the chance to see the last one at all, did it really benefit him that much to have it put on him? If it would've been something that caused a submission to not connect because he was too slippery, then I could see it being a huge problem. If no submission attempt was made though, why would it matter since I heard Rd. 4 he was beaten like a school girl?
HBwillie
Top 10 Pound for Pound MMA Fighters... 10. Thiago Alves - This dude has sick standup. Crazy power and good takedown defense. Gonna be an exciting fight with St. Pierre coming up. 9. Urijah Faber - Barring his loss against Mike Brown, this guy has looked pretty much invincible. I don't think it'll be the same story in the rematch. 8. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira - Because though I feel he's lost a lot of speed, he's still one of the toughest bastards in the sport with awesome heavyweight jits. 7. Lyoto Machida - The epitome of the word "elusive". The rate at which he finishes fights is increasing. A boring fighter some say, but to them I say, "Shut the hell up. You're not a true fan of the sport." 6. Rashad Evans - Though I hate his showboating, this guy has serious talent. He's got good power and even better wrestling. A deserving champ, but he's got to deal with his biggest test yet in Rampage or The Dragon. 5. Miguel Torres - If you've seen him, you know why. Some might say he deserves to be higher and I won't disagree. Just look at the caliber of the next four. 4. Georges St. Pierre - Barring a fluke loss and a nervous misstep, St. Pierre has looked solid since he entered the UFC. He's an athletic freak with crazy wrestling and takedown defense. Can't wait to see the Alves fight. 3. Anderson Silva - The Spider has perhaps the best muay thai/jiu jitsu combo in MMA. Stand up with him and get knocked out, or take him down and get subbed. He'll reign for a long time. 2. BJ Penn - He looked like a steaming pile of cow mess in his last fight but there's no denying his ability. I have no idea what happened with St. Pierre, but no one in the lightweight division can rival him. 1. Fedor Emelianenko - This Russian devil is a cyborg created for the sport of MMA. It's like he always knows just what to do at every point in the fight. Once his kill switch is flipped just before a fight is when you should start praying for the other guy. Honorable mention: Quinton Jackson (gotta learn to defend kicks), Dan Henderson(iron man), Mauricio Rua (not looking as good these days), Luiz Cane (talented up-and-comer), Murilo Rua (one of my favs), Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (still got it), Josh Koscheck (hate em), Shinya Aoki (my favorite jits guy), Takanori Gomi (kinda falling off), Josh Thomson (very well rounded), aaaaannnndddd Norifumi Yamamoto (seems to have lost his finishing ability). Rethrick
HBwillie, i couldn't agree more except switching Penn and GSP. GSP is just nasty and that "Fluke" against Serra happens to everyone at one point or another. Look at most of the names you listed and you can go back and see that they have had a fluke of some sort. Anyone can just get caught at the wrong moment. **** happens.
HBwillie
I just think that BJ will be more dominant in the LW division more than GSP will in the WW. Let's look at the losses. BJ: 1st loss was a decision to Jens Pulver, who in his prime, was nasty with his hands. 2nd was a decision to Lyoto Machida. Come on...this guy is a LHW striker. 3rd was a SPLIT decision to GSP. This was a fight in which I believe GSP won by maintaining superior position. BJ picked him apart on the feet, but GSP took him down and laid on him. 4th was Matt Hughes, and I believe this one was due in part to his terrible conditioning after a long time away from the fight game. I don't think he was taking his training seriously. He did come back to beat Hughes in the next fight. 5th and final was, of course, the second GSP loss. That was total garbage. BJ let me down. GSP: 1st loss was Matt Hughes by armbar. As GSP claimed, I believe he was mentally defeated before the fight started. He was fighting his idol and he choked. After that fight, Hughes couldn't touch him. 2nd was to Matt Serra. This was the fluke TKO. It hurt watching GSP try to regain his balance like he was walking on ice. He also came back to destroy Serra. In conclusion: They've both fought top competition. GSP has the better record, but he was virtually unheard of before the UFC, and a lot of his fights were in Canada. I mean come on...how many good fighters can there be in Canada? 3 of BJ's losses were to naturally heavier opponents. In truth I believe only ONE of BJ's losses was credible, and that was his first to Pulver. I don't credit anyone with trully defeating GSP. I just feel like Penn will tool everyone in the LW division, while GSP could have a bit more trouble with the talent level with the WW's. Coming up: Georges "Rush" St. Pierre VS Thiago "Pitbull" Alves BJ "The Prodigy" Penn VS Kenny "Ken Flo" Florian Thoughts?
EyeSeeU
GSP was a trash man, I mean his story alone you gotta fall in love with. I think maybe GSP was a bit slippery and perhaps if he wasn't so BJ might have been able to pull some subs in the rubber guard he was in a lot, however as I watched the fight I noticed GSP all around MMA improved a lot and I mean a lot. BJ perhaps need to improve his all around MMA prowess or else he may loose some more fights. There is a fighter in the WEC whom I think just got jiped in his fight for the belt, his name is Donald Cerrone aka Cowboy. Granted he is going to get another title fight. However before the knee and the quiting of Jamie Varner in the fifth round of the title fight leading to the judges to go to scorecard in which a decision was made in the favor of Varner, I do believe Cowboy was winning the fight. This dude Donald Cerrone will eventually win the WEC belt and then I would hope to see him fight in the UFC. Coming up: Georges "Rush" St. Pierre VS Thiago "Pitbull" Alves BJ "The Prodigy" Penn VS Kenny "Ken Flo" Florian I like BJ over Kenny, BJ will be "back with a vengeance" so to speak after his loss. Between Rush and Pitbull I would have to say whomever has the better chin may win, do not be surprised if Alves wins the belt.
