Guest emp_newb
Silva vs Franklin... i dunno... i think Wanderlei is past his prime and Franklin is hungrier. The only reason id root for Wandy is if this will in fact set up a fight between him and Spider... othawise Franklin wins on a sweet counterpunch. To tell you the truth... im more pumped bout Kongo vs Velasquez... winner gets a title shot? While I do like the frenchie, he is only a few takedowns from a loss. Kongo seriously needs to improve his ground game. He just gets man handled by anyone with any BJJ training. I watched an older UFC fight (Gonzaga v. Crocop, god that was such a nasty knockout) and watched kongo do some good stand up, only to have absolutely no answer at all for slower, poorly set up takedown attempts. Kongo, with his build, could actually be a very strong ground fighter, but it seems to me he does not apply what I know his trainers are ramming down his throat. I agree 100% about your franklin vs wanderlai. I have been watching some training vids, streams, and interviews. Wanderlai seems to be riding the downslope of his fighting career, I would LOVE to see him and Anderson fight, but I really believe Franklin is going to be fighting Anderson. KRins
I'm praying that the matchmakers are looking out for Wanderlai's children by not putting him in against Silva... Jesus...I don't even want to think about what might happen to him. You've got a good point...why does Kongo still suck at any version of grappling? It isn't like he started yesterday. I've seen better wrestling in high school gyms for christ's sake.

I've seen better wrestling in high school gyms for christ's sake. Alot of fighters get the training, but fight comes and they cannot stay in the ring, they get distracted, or are not applying what they know to do is my only guess. You find it alot where someone tries to go into UFC with only one real style of fighting and gets rocked by more well rounded fighters Look at Kimbo Slice. Street fighting Monster, in UFC he was practice for the cut man.
KRins
Oh I definitely hear that, I rely pretty strongly on boxing and takedown defense myself. You would think that if you were getting paid the big stacks to fight, you would try to diversify yourself. I know I spend literally days every month working straight jits. I guess it might fall under the "everyone has a plan till they get punched in the face" umbrella. I eat a couple stiff jabs and I'm convinced I could get a takedown, ride it out, and win 2-0. Then again...I'm a moron.
Guest emp_newb
There have been alot of fights that where won by someone who got rocked in the face and went ok, time for a takedown. Look at how tim sylvia's arm was broken. He was doing very well, and then was taken down and refused to submit.
KRins
I know this is a little off topic of the upcoming big promotion PPVs, but how does everyone feel about Donald Cerrone? Legit? A product of Tapout + a marginal weight class? I'm more in favor of Legit. He can stand, he can work from his guard... I don't believe I've seen any GnP from him, but that just might be my lack of film study on him. I like his style...he's like a block of ice. Never seems shook up and always has that same cool expression on his face.
Guest emp_newb
DAYAM. Anyone else watch the sanchez guida fight like 10 times? That was a ****ing brawl. Flat out. Every time I watch Guida I gain more, and more respect for him. I mean Diego hit him with a skull cracking head kick. Guida was asleep on his feet, hit the mat, and was immediately going after diegos leg. My god that was an absolutely AMAZING fight. Guida may have lost on the scorecards, but from an MMA lovers standpoint noone lost that fight.

In the end the W is all that matters.
KRins
I'm sure Clay wishes he won...but I think Emp is trying to say that he showed a lot of heart, skill, and toughness in defeat. Definitely worth the space on my DVR, I'll say that much.

Guest emp_newb
Lesnar vs Mir. I am gonna go with Lesnar. Mir's advantage has always been his ground game, and mobility there in. Fighting someone like Lesnar negates his ground game, and you still have to contend with lesnar's ever improving striking.

KRins
I've rewatched Lesnar-Mir 1 so many times recently...and I feel like if Brock pushed at all when he put his foot in Mir's backside...he might have slipped the knee bar. Lesnar, unanimous decision. Too much strength, obviously too much striking, and enough jits negation.

HBwillie
Give me Lesnar in that one. Everybody says he's just a freight train, but he's got serious wrestling ability to go with that enormous size and incredible power. He may not be the most technical fighter, but win or lose, Mir said he wanted to help Lesnar improve his ground game. By the time this fight would go down, Lesnar will be a real terror in the heavyweight division. I just wanna see his chin tested. I hate that Cain Velasquez and Shane Carwin have to fight each other. I wanna see em both against the big bull. I'm partial to Velasquez, but I'd really rather see Carwin knock Lesnar out cold.
Guest emp_newb
see, I think the sapp fight is a joke anymore. Bob sapp has never been anything more than a freakishly large man. No actual fighting talent. Honestly if I, with my minor wrestling experience, weighed 280 lbs, and someone shot on me? It would be the largest sprawling crossface ever. He actually layed on his back and made it easier for a take down. Once the big guy is down, it is a cakewalk. Mount, g/p til ref stops it. I really think Lesnar would be MUCH more respected had he never touch "pro wrestling". He has all the strong points of a strong champ. He has size, power, speed, listens to his corner, trains hard, has heart, and is well rounded, although MAYBE his striking is a bit sluggish, and predictable. HBwillie
No kidding. Mir won't make it to the 3rd. He's got a suspect chin and bad stamina with a mountain of a man throwing his weight all over Mir.
