The life of <insert char name here>

So, when we make a character, we always have the standard 'backstory' or 'general roleplay idea' that exists from the start:

"I'm a ranger that lived in a forest burned down by Tribbies and now I want to kick their ***!"

"I'm all material baby. Now I collect skulls of the marked for a tidy profit."

"My mother once cooked me a steak when I was younger, and it was a little rare. Ever since, I've devoured on the flesh of the living to try and re-create the taste, to no avail."

You get where I'm going.

What I want to know is, what characters have you had that have been changed through external influences? When you've started out with one idea, and maybe another character, a roleplay plot, or anything that you haven't had any control over has thrown a spanner in the works, and really made everything seem so real, just like how a real person would be affected by external influences?

My current char actually started out with a full plan, but after getting into the character, and letting the RP flow I had ALOT of changes. My original RP was devised around a weapon. Now I have let it flow Im actually a being who wants peace, and is full of love at heart. The old RP still lingers in many aspects. Though his views have severely changed in recent weeks. My goal system has changed, and my ideas for cabal have taken a minor turn as well.

Heck yeah man... the life of my healer. Since you axed (hehe inside joke)...

He started out as the son of a doctor and a small town sheriff type in Ofcol... he was never sure what he wanted to do. He figured he'd just join the clerics guild and maybe learn medicine like his moms.. but in his heart he knew he wanted to help people. He had no desire for any kind of cabal... gaining ranks in his guild was real tough b/c he refused to take the life of the living... so he spent most of his time joinin groups that fought undead.. or simply didnt fight but healed... It was on one trip to Shandor that he met someone named Athorn who was a Justice... after hearing Athorn talk about his life as a member of Justice and protecting innocents... somethin sparked inside of him and he decided that he would combine his father and his mothers passions.. so he became a Justice. He served for a long time and he figured that was all there would be to life... until he met an elven woman with a grace that he had never seen in another person... one who shared his passion for helping others. He slowly began to fall in love... knowing that there were other "suitors" who made their feelings much more obvious than he did. Then he found out that she swore herself off of love... and that broke his heart... and so his heart became like the stone of the city he proteced... and he became a bit of a hermit. He was very formal... adressing everyone as sir.. madam... miss... or citizen... never really letting anyone get close to him. He even grew to have a bit of a nervous habit where he scratched behind his left ear a lot.

In due time he became the leader of his cabal.. due to his job, he stood around a lot and began to put on some weight... something which a lot of people took jabs at him about. He was happy w/ his life... even though it was empty... until another woman entered it.. this one a half-elven songsmith... who came to have a crush on him. He didnt notice at first b/c he was kind of thickheaded... but one night on her b-day she talked him into drinking some alcohol and they got close under the stars of the observatory... and stirred up feelings that they werent ready for. Still.. they let it become something and got married... this new relationship drove him to lose weight and keep it off. Since they both stood at the top of their cabals... their relationship drew attention.

His marriage was assaulted by an unholy evil. First.. b/c of his job he had to interact w/ that graceful woman that he once loved... and they grew to be close friends... causing his wife to become jealous. His wife and his friend grew apart. Not long after.. his wife was turned into the one thing he hated the most... unliving. Their only child disappeared.. never to be heard of again... and his wife broke the sanctity of their marriage by gettin her freak on w/ someone else. This put a huge strain on him.. and he didnt know what to do. In a moment of confusion... he kissed the woman that was now not only his closest friend.. but also basically his employer.. they both regretted this action... even tho it was real brief... they decided to end the friendship and only be business associates. He had lost everyone.

Broken... he resigned and left his position to someone else... and left the world to go into seclusion... where he almost died if it were not for the help of a mysterious and mystical hawk... who has not left his side since. He came back after some years to learn the fate of his wife and his close friend. Both now gone... and he had a new attitude on life.. a "stoic" one... he saw that everything happened for a reason and that everything was meant to be. You can either accept it... and find the good... or be miserable... so whenever someone asked him how he was hed say "serene" or "at peace" because in his heart he convinced himself he was. He then met another half-elven songsmith who in some ways reminded him of his late wife... and he saw her somewhat as a daughter.. one to replace the one he lost. As she grew and her life became complicated he saw less and less of her... until she too was gone.

Now he just wanders... travellin charted and uncharted places... doing good wherever he can. Every so often.. he comes around to see what has become of his cities.. even volunteering to defend them again for a small time.. but what he really is looking for is peace... who knows if he will find it.

Yeah... his whole life has been rollin w/ the events IG.. very little outside planning other than his past... but he feels real to me.. CREEPY!

Pali started out with absolutely no direction, no complicated backstory... ended up getting asked to be the Royal Advisor to Val Miran because he was friends with the Queen... then spent his entire tenure trying to quit and never being allowed to.

Galadran started out again with little direction, joined Hunter because it sounded badass, then got kicked out as the life of a bounty hunter collided with his sense of honor and spent the rest of his life as a pain in the *** for all evils he could find.

Ilendriel I started intending him to be nothing more than just a char to play here and there when I was bored, and after spending some time as the Guardian Knight (which was the preplanned RP for him) he got liked enough that the other elves at the time convinced him to apply for Noble.
