Ogres are known for their ability to take wounds that would kill a normal human ten times over, as well as being able to heal the said wound within a fraction of the time over than any other living being. Unfortunately this comes with a cost, as the ogre must intake massive quantities of food in order to maintain his metabolism. An ogre is always hungry, needing food and drink twice as often and in larger amounts than the other races of Aabarahn.
Basically, make ogres get hungry and thirsty twice as fast and make them have to eat twice as much to get themselves satiated.
How about it? Nothing too gimpy but enough of an annoyance factor to make it matter.
Not all people get hungry and thirsty and become satisfied at the same rate as it is.
Also, I'm not sure whether you are suggesting that Ogres need another flaw as it is, or whether this is just for realism. If its for realism, than why dont we not let Fire Giants communicate telepathically.
Play an ogre, then play an faerie. You'll see a metabolic difference, and a difference in stomach size, too.
Avians then should be hungry from the amount of energy devoted to flying.
Fire Giants should be hungry from the amount of energy devoted to well, flaming!
Werebeasts should be hungry from all the bone splitting from changing, not to mention new undergarments.
Etc Etc..
Actually it wasn't for realism, just an attempt stop ogres from being the choice for all melee classes. There are different stomach sizes, but they aren't that significant.
Just roll-up an ogre killer combo
Drow Battlemage Savant.
Ask Trienklor and Rompkei, if you don't believe me.
A Battlemage is a good start. An Invoker a great secondary. Overall, though, I think a shaman might have it pegged. They have the ability to take away every strength an ogre has.
Actually, I won't go into specifics of why and how, but if you want to kill an ogre make a Crusader and make some smart choices.
Crusaders are gimped vs good aligned ogres though.

With the exception of Tribunal, why would a Crusader need to kill/defeat a good aligned ogre?

Well maybe that's a sign that we need to buff up other warrior choices (adding more replayability, playability, and variety) instead of toning down everything?
No! Ogre warrior staff masters w/ backcutter only! JEESH!
I see very little reason to NOT play an ogre zerk or ranger. Warrior MIGHT have a bit of competition...but I'm thinking not really.
my idea is to change ogre bloodhaze a bit. The ogre can either take a graze (like now) OR critical damage
shaman are probably best for taking them down..but add in some cabals and that gets complicated easily
What I don't understand is what happened to all of a sudden make ogres the cream of the crop? Does no one remember a year or so ago when ogres were "great for getting to 50, then iffy at best?" I've always known ogres were strong (my forum name kinda gives that away) but they've also always had glaring weaknesses. I don't really see anything that's changed to suddenly make them unstoppable. Yes, they make for a powerful melee combo, but at the same time they have huge weaknesses (inherent with melee combos in general) that make them an easy target if they aren't 100% on their game all the time. I personally haven't had any problems with ogres throughout my time here, and still don't really see the huge issue. Yes, they put out damage and can soak it up, but there are all sorts of combos and ways to weaken them. An ogres ability to win in battle comes from two main tactics: a) high damage output to negate the high damage they're taking and
a war of attrition where they out-heal their opponents. A smart ogre player combines these two tactics to become deadly, but both tactics have their overwhelming weaknesses. I've played many, many classes against ogres and I don't see any problem beating them at all. Certain cabal choices certainly make it tougher, but even then it's not a huge problem. Necros, shamans, crusaders, and battlemages should be capable of beating any ogre combo, if not dominant over them. Other communers shouldn't have any problem surviving against them, and can play a hit and run game until the ogre, who needs more preparation/consumable content, makes a mistake. And they will make a mistake, even the most skilled of skilled players make mistakes.
drow battlemage temporum = uber das ogre killer
nobody said it was new
...ogres have been shining (on a more massive scale) since early 2.0
also nobody is saying that ogres are invincible or even overpowered...what is being said is that they tend trump all other race choices for their available classes
also, ogres don't really take that much more damage than anyone else..they tend to save worse which makes: easier to land mals and mental (mental same as giant), and save worse for afflictive (which is almost entirely negated by extra hp)...
I've a huge thread on this from awhile back around here somewhere
I disagree even with trumping all other races in available class choices. They are certainly powerful within each of their class choices, but depending on what your character is geared towards I can think of better choices for each.
A zerk mage killer- go minotaur
A whip warrior- Ogres are nice, but I still like the idea of higher dex races in this slot. I may try one sometime.
Ranger- Any choice can stand with an ogre as a choice. You don't get the same damage output, but you can change styles to fit moreso than with warriors.
What do you mean by mage killer? Necros? Bmgs? Invokers? Against those, I really wouldn't want to play a zerk at all, with necros and bmgs having high physical damage (which minos don't resist) and the mino losing their charge against an invoker (attrition (or necros/ninja) is really the only way to beat a good invoker anyhow--even super damage output ogre ranger nexus or fire warrior nexus can't dish out enough in straight combat--at least in my experience)
for mage killers, zerks do really poorly against mages
I'm not sure why you want the mino (axe prof bonus? I'll take str, bloodhaze, and all weapon bonus of ogre)..charge or 50% more hp?
A whip lore warrior...I really don't know if the dex bonus to the lore really makes up for all the disadvantages of high dex races (ogres being the highest dex giant of course)
Ranger...what do you mean about changing styles? Can you give some examples?
Sorry to seem so questioning and you know I respect yoooouuu...I just feel strongly about this issue!
