The Professor
Always remember WHERE and WHO...paranoia is your friend! Also remember if they are opposite align than you...most likely, they are not there for a play-date. Seriously though, if you are not messing with us *peers around intently*, glad you made it out in one piece. It's interesting how an event like that can affect a person...or not. Pali
No, I'm not messing around with you. Hasn't really affected or rattled me much... I've had a gun pulled on me before, it happens. It was a great story to tell at work the next day... tell all the regulars at the store "Hey, we got robbed last night!" Got to be a local celebrity for a day. Pfft, we could use some gun laws. ...On second though, I don't want to turn this thread into a gun thread. So I'll stop there.
Mali
The right to bear arms, Mudder. Sounds like you would enjoy the political climate in England, where there are stricter gun laws than here in the ole' USA. Florida might as well be the old west, the type of laws we got down here. Because this is exactly the type of person who would have been foiled by being told he was not allowed to have a firearm. Pali, glad you're okay. I can just see you in the situation, shrugging ambivalently, lifting the drawer to prove no hidden bills, and then waiting outside for the cops having a smoke after you've called the 5-0. "Are you okay, Son?! Did he hurt you?!" "Nope. Just took the cash... if you want coffee it's gonna be a couple minutes, I just changed the pots. Oh, and Skoal is buy one get one, any flavour. Can I finish this before you check out, or are you in a hurry?" a-g

Nightmare_from_hell
Believe me, he's not kidding. I work in Madison, WI as an Armed Security officer doing patrol of one of the low income housing complexes on the south side and this Parka Bandit has hit several places in the past week or two. So far he hasn't hurt anyone, let's hope it stays that way. Like they say though, it's only a matter of time before someone either arms themselves and takes him down or gets taken down. Pali
Heh, didn't know you live around here Nightmare. We should get a drink sometime. The Parka Bandit got caught today, actually, and it turns out the gun wasn't real so gun laws would've made absolutely no difference. And A-G, that's pretty close to the mark for how it happened. Didn't offer the cops anything, but I did insist that my boss let me do my job and finish closing down the store after all the cops left.
Mudder
Actually they would've. If no one has a gun, the idea that someone would actually have a gun and pull one on you would be comical.

If no one has a gun' date=' the idea that someone would actually have a gun and pull one on you would be comical. [/quote'] Like anything they would still be readily available through the right channels. The gun laws help moderate some what by allowing to keep track of SOME of the weapons, imagine if there was no tracking of ANY weapons. Personally I am against guns and violence of that nature. Being from Africa myself, you'd have to get to page 32 of the newspaper before you'd hit a story where someone wasnt killed in a shooting. Not cool. Mudder
As displayed by your robbing, the idea of people having guns or not does not stop people that want to rob. They don't care or get that far into the thought process. Guns are readily available because guns are made in mass amounts and moved around the world. America being one of the bigger ones. I say we stop making civilian guns entirely and stop selling weapons to countries at war. Guess who is arming the majority of the countries that are threatening Israel? What about the brutal dictators? You guessed it!
Pali
As displayed by your robbing' date=' the idea of people having guns or not does not stop people that want to rob. They don't care or get that far into the thought process.[/quote'] First, the fact that concealed carrying is illegal for the vast majority of people means that one can be fairly certain that a clerk who isn't obviously wearing a weapon doesn't have one, whereas a person who is just fine with breaking the law against concealed carrying isn't affected unless he gets caught. Second, yes, many criminals DO get that far in the thought process. Just because one is acting illegally and without regard for others does not mean one is acting without thinking or planning. Mudder
It is far to say the majority of criminals do not fully think things through. Otherwise they wouldn't be criminals. Obviously. I don't know about you, but I'm from Florida. It is as easy as taking a joke of a class and paying a fee to get your concealed permit. The vast majority are not in any way excluded from this.
