I think this might be perhaps the first time I've posted a controversial post and not gotten a ton of pissed off responses. What's up guys?

I didn't watch the video, as everything you link us to makes me question if breathing, mostly yours, is over rated. But I'll call you names, Butt-eye, if it makes you feel better, you stink-maker-ear.

No matter what, when you voice a strong opinion your going to piss someone off. There are some topics that will ALWAYS cause problems, such as:

Abortion

Gay marriage

Marijuana legalization

Religion

Those are the first four I think of that always cause problems

No one gets really upset concerning marijuana legalization.

Though I disagree, there will not always be topics that ALWAYS cause problems. Not all that long ago, if you weren't part of a certain religion, they would kill you. This is in the "most civilized" countries or kingdoms of the time.

In America we had salem witch trials. The climate has obviously shifted for the better and it will continue. The less the world favors any sort of religious extremism the better off, and happier, we will all be. No one can disagree with that unless they're just being stubborn for the sake of it.

Not long ago, yes. You're half right, in my opinion. Years wise, it was practically yesterday that we owned other people in this country. But... look at how quickly the world changes, and how it''s on an increasingly fast scale. 60 years ago we dropped a nuclear bomb on Japan. Is Japan even thinking about killing us for that? No, not anymore. Matter of fact, we're happy to buy their crap and they're happy to sell it and not talk about the giant, glowing, green elephant in the middle of the room.

But, say we destroyed two whole cities, women, children, old, young and soldiers alike in the 1200's... they'd probably hate us for a good 200 years, 300 yeras, or more. Because with new technologies, new research, and new ideas people become- well, I wouldn't say accepting, but more tolerant of other's past transgression when they can work with them and make out better than they were.

But, you're right. I hope in 20 years no one cares about a black president (for the skin reasons), if their neighbor Harry has married a man or a woman, or man that used to be a woman, or if someone they've never met had an abortion.

The salem witch trials had a very different atmosphere for society than me walking past the baptist church while wearing a **** with an inverted cross today. I would be a witch then, today, I'm some tool-bag who needs to just think before I do something.

Maybe in thirty years no one will give two ****s what someone has on what they wear, but only that their chest isn't hanging out or the testes are safely tucked away.

The majority don't care about a black president. He WAS voted in by the majority and a rather massive one.

The truly racist have become the minority and will increasingly die away. We may never eliminate the undesirables of society 100%, but we can easily say that they will fade into obscurity where they are afraid to tell people their crazy ideals without facing public ridicule.

The theory of evolution and the belief in creationism are not mutually exclusive concepts. Many people believe in God without rejecting science.

Many creationists are extreme and reject evolution theory outright. Generally, these people will grudgingly accept a belief in micro-evolution or evolution at the level of bacteria and disease. However, when it comes to human origins there is usually a tendency to dismiss the evidence without examining it.

On the other hand, Atheism is also an extreme. Many atheists reject the mystery of the universe and want to see science explain everything. Usually at some point in life they were religious or were born into a religious affiliation but came to reject it due to some event or experience that made them question religion.

So you see, militant religion and militant atheism are both flawed ideas.

I completely disagree(Obviously). But here is why.

First off, to say atheists reject the mystery of the Universe is completely wrong. Everything is a mystery. It's incredible how many things we don't know squat about and we're content with just that. We know that in time, eventually we may figure it out. Whether it is in our lifetime or not. The mystery of the universe is something we are content with, unless we can gather the evidence to support an answer.

However, the religious are different. This is obviously a sweeping generalization and affects more the extremely conservative new-Earth creationists and is more diluted towards the moderate to "barely" religious Christians. You take something incredibly fascinating and reduce it to simply, "That is how God decided to make it." The religious are not in awe of the mystery of the Universe because they already know how it was created and why. They have the trump card. The answer for everything.

To say that Atheists are just as extreme as the religious by saying you can't prove it or disprove it, so everyone should just be agnostic. Fine with me, but if you are going to believe in God without evidence then why not believe in the existence of FL Zeus/Thor/etc ? There is the same amount of evidence.

Or elves, halflings, faeries? These humanoids were widely believed to exist at one point.

All in all, if someone makes a claim. They need to support it, back it up, prove that it exists. Not just assume everyone believe them for no reason other than they cannot prove otherwise. :)
