Hi all,

I've been following on the forums for a little bit, and I used to play FL a few years ago. Granted, I didn't play a lot, RL got a bit busy. But I'm back. And I do agree, that it's still just as addictive as when I first played it. :D :D I don't know how I quit it before! I just wanted to give a shout out to everyone so they know that a noob is here. Please teach me PK

First rule of pk. Ignore what mudder says. Second rule of pk. Read as many pk logs as you can, and find things that look appealing. Third rule of pk, don't die.

Thats about all I got. It works pretty well.

Welcome back, and good luck in your next foray into this dangerous world.

Here's some tips to get you back in the swing of things.

1. Log all your battles, wins and losses both. See how you lost and how your opponent won, and react accordingly.

2. Create a file simply for IDs. Then ID everything you see.

3. Explore! Try to open every direction (including 'open secret') in every room.

4. Ask questions. Lots of questions.

5. Make maps. You'll only ever be any good as your ability to stay alive when things go downhill.

6. Now that you got the maps, memorize them so you can go from Val Miran to Miruvhor while blind.

7. Learn which areas are connected to which, and how many other areas are accessible to each. This will help you in your chasing ability.

8. Get accustomed to where consumable are (sanc, flight, detects, etc.), and when to use them effectively.

9. Above all, have fun!

I'll write more tomorrow after I get some much needed sleep.

Not quite sure where that came from. Though I must say, awful advice. Reminds me of that one thread that tells people to hit alt+F4 when they want to flee or that typing delete;delete really fast is a cheat for sweet eq.

Just stick with me and you'll be just fine.

I can show you the world

Shining, shimmering, splendid

Tell me, Sumdood, now when did

You last let your heart decide?

I can open your eyes

Take you wonder by wonder

Over, sideways and under

On a magic carpet ride

A whole new world

A new fantastic point of view

No one to tell us no

Or where to go

Or say we're only dreaming

A whole new world

A dazzling place I never knew

But when I'm way up here

It's crystal clear

That now I'm in a whole new world with you

Now I'm in a whole new world with you

Unbelievable sights

Indescribable feeling

Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling

Through an endless diamond sky

A whole new world

Don't you dare close your eyes

A hundred thousand things to see

Hold your breath - it gets better

I'm like a shooting star

I've come so far

I can't go back to where I used to be

A whole new world

Every turn a surprise

With new horizons to pursue

Every moment red-letter

I'll chase them anywhere

There's time to spare

Let me share this whole new world with you

A whole new world

That's where we'll be

A thrilling chase

A wondrous place

For you and me

welcome.

my tips:

dont pk unless you're attacked, and even then, dont finish them off unless you cannot avoid it.

set an alias for "where pk" and use it every 15 seconds, at the least. it will show you everyone that can attack you as well as their general area.

set aliases for "get all corpse" "wear all" and "put all bag" (or back, satchel, sack, or whichever you have).

log everything. from login til exit. you'll save a bunch of time and frustration. like if you want to reference an item you found, find a spot you were the other day, read over some RP you had, etc.

don't get too frustrated if you die. everybody does. it gets hard sometimes, but everything is a learning experience.

read over the PK logs. find a class that you think looks cool. then play one. dont listen to anyone telling you what is best, unless you cant make up your mind.

have fun. if you arent having fun, whats the point? relax, sit back, and enjoy the mud.

I use my numpad for movement, look, who pk, where, exits and an essential skill, based on class (cure crit, invis, stake, etc.)

numpad makes movement INFINITELY easier, and because you're generally always moving, your ring or pinky finger is literally always touching the where button

I have where set to 7, aff set to 9, scan set to 5, and dirs set to - + 8 2 4 6

I use aliases like cc for cure crit, cp for cure poison, flame for flamestrike, and I have macros set up for pking alt + a for chase opener, alt + s set for chase finisher. Add in a few highlighting scripts and you have pking for newbs:)
