cool pmote say aliases, etc.

I'm wanting to figure out how to make an alias setup for those cool pmotes like the following:

Soandso eats a delicious bonbon, then says, "blabbety blah blah!"

...where the actual quote is colored yellow as if it were a simple "say."

I have managed to get it working if I type "say" every time, but that's just silly. I want to make it work for ' but cannot seem to get it going.

using zmud ftr

:) Help!

Aeva, this can be done with the ingame alias system. "Help alias" will lend you in the right direction. I can't connect right now to figure it out (I lost the file I had for quick set ups of this matter), but I used to have multiple types of says set up.

gsay would be; grinning widely, a-guitarst says, 'That's some fine detective work there, lou."

asay would be; a-guitarist says with a harsh, angry tone, 'I hate losing files!'

etc. And it's all ingame so you don't have to worry about losing it with a client install or crash.

If no one can help you further before I get to a time I can log in, I'll check it for you. Hope I helped a little.

nope, you understood :)

If I do alias ' pmote does something awesome then says "$", the alias isnt accepted. I can, however, set that very alias by using alias say pmote does something awesome then says "$".

Since Fl won't allow an alias set to " ' ," I tried setting one in zmud to make ' = " say ,"

but that way only works if I leave a space after the initial ' - if not, it screws up the spacing and stuff.

halp meh! :D

thank you a-g, that is helpful and insightful. the main curiousity for me, though, is how (of possible?) to set it to work like this:

i type the following : 'hi there, jerk

Aeva eats a delicious bonbon and says "Hi there, jerk."

I think the alias has to be separated by a space from what you're saying, and maybe (maybe) it won't work for the apostrophe. Try:

alias say emote eats a delicious bonbon and says, "

For optimal formatting you'll have to end it with an apostrophe.

say Hey there!' OR say Hey there!"

returns:

Aeva eats a delicious bonbon and says, ' Hey there!'

Also, you can try this.

Make alias Talk:

This alias does two actions. Stores a variable and then outputs the variable.

#alias talk %1 {variablex = %1 ; emote eats a delicious bonbon and says, ~' @variablex '.}

%1 only works for the first word. You need another thing for sentence, but my Zmud is to old for me to aid you with it.

In most cases I have to agree with Mudder... it's just overdone. It can be done exceptionally well' date=' but very rarely is it.[/quote']

There's some cases where I believe it's extremely pertinent... and I don't even think they're rare. When I read someone says x, it seems so very neutral, flat, and boring. If 'SlithA flicks his tongue as he slowly speaks "x"' it sounds alot better every time. I think the emote is lost rather quickly if he does it once, and I would personally appreciate the character more if he held onto this emote say.

The long ones annoy me a bunch.

Something simple is fine by me:

Bill croaks 'Budweiser'

Todo barks 'Hey stupid.'

Sickguy coughs 'I'm so sick'

The long ones are just a pain in the ***. If used sparingly they add a lot to the moment, but consistent use of something that starts a small say mid screen, ugh, I'll start thinking about questing.

Well sometimes it is required. Phaige COULDN'T talk. Cut out his tongue. He had to cut the words into his chest.

That's just not realistic! How could someone talk out of their chest.... or even live for weeks if they had his tongue cut out? I mean... come on... let's try and keep this at least sorta real...

;)

I love seeing new ideas, like the Phaige talking. I just wish there was a way to do it where it wasn't the same every time.

I view "say" as water, and everything else as various flavours of other beverages. Sure, we all love Dr. Pepper, but there are only so many times you can have it before you start to hate it, and others around you too. Sometimes, there is a medical reason, as in Phaige's case, but even then... change it up. Now, I'm nto saying Phaige sucked, but I'm just saying variety is the spice of life.

That is why I, when I do use them, have three or four set up so that when I need to use it it's a say command with another letter in front. Unless your guy, Aeva, is morbidly obese and rich as hell, he's not gonna have that many bonbons. ;)

Aeva brups, "MY BONBONS!" as he reaches into his pocket.

Aeva frantically searches is pockets, pulling out a handful of smooshed bonbons.

Slowly, Aeva's eyes get wider as one, then two, then three bonbons are placed into his mouth.

Aeva says, "MMmmmm! They get better when they're softened by the warm of the thigh!"

Aeva says, "Wait! Where are you going? I can share.... hello?"

:)

If your going to use them. Do like A-G did in his example.

emote say1..

normal say.

normal say.

normal say.

(lets change it up with a different emote say)

emote say2.

normal say.

normal say.

This makes the RP much more varied, less boring for the people around you. I feel the people that use emote say as just a say replacement are like "pancakes in a bottle, just add water!" It's gross and over processed. :)
