I kinda wish I would see more of it. It seems to me that people are more concerned with killing people/mobs than advancing their RP.

is probably just me, and i haven't been lucky enugh to stumble into many situations. It just strikes me as odd.

Involved in cabals at all? Depending on the people in the cabal, cabal politic usually opens up the avenue for RP, everyone is trying to show off to the imm, so they tend to be more outgoing with rp.

I get what I'd consider too much rp from some people. If I could give you mine, I would. I really hate grouping with the lovable idiot. And it seems I group with them every time. Too some I'm lucky, I always have groups, I always have people who want to rp. But to me, I group with people who want to be morons, and it makes me just want to go do guild quests.

Some of you will say, 'But WC, this is an rp/pk mud, they are rping their character 100% from the start!' to which I reply that I don't care. If you need me more than I need you, don't tell me what to do or I'm going to go back to solo ranking. I'd rather have an enemy later, than a dickhole of a boss now, because the dick now is going to be an enemy later anyway.

I see a lot of interactive RP at lower levels, and a decent amount at pinnacle.

Only one in a four ignores interaction / only speaks IC to the extent of talking about mechanics in a veiled manner of what I've seen, which I think is a decent percentage.

I almost never have trouble finding people who RP just fine. You'd be a amazed what a bit of prompting on your own part can encourage others to do.

i usually rp with everyone i come across that stays in a room long enough for me to type. especially liandra, that social butterfly (or complete bimbo, the jury is still out on that one).

High levels tend to avoid excess stay in towns, which may explain the problem.

I rip rp out of people. So much so that when I am in a cabal, those under me are basically forced to rp in one way or another, becaus eI am so active with it. More are inclined to rp than others of course, but that's what this game is, and that's what I seek out of it.

Keep in mind that someone's RP may not include stopping to chat with random people who try to talk to them. After all, there are lots of people in real life that I will ignore as I walk by them even if they try to talk to me.

The history of my characters proves that when this happens, they get shelved or deleted. I can't play boring characters. I had a ranger that did surprisingly well in pk, and I quit because he was so drudgingly boring and I couldn't conjure any sort of solid rp with him.

Having played every class to 50 (minus healer/lich) multiple times, RP has HUGE factor on whether I keep a char or not.

I disagree w/ you WC.. i actually feel like if i am going monster killing w/ someone... we are gunna have some kind of meaningful conversation that is deeper than "You take the hits now" and "im goin to town". Now if the moron is putting the group in danger... then yeah... thats a diff story... but if a guy is RPing while in the group... id much prefer that over the guy who sits there and does/says nothing... and tells you to shut-up when you are actually playing the game the way its 'posed to be played. I always thought that was the main reason why groups get an exp bonus.. to force you to interact w/ people.

Iconz, I think you misunderstood my Brother. What he means, I believe, is- if the people he groups with want to RP that they're aggressive dicks, bossy, whatever, regardless of if it's RP or not, it gets annoying.

Also, people who RP "poorly" can get annoying. New people are very guilty of this, but only becasue they don't know how to RP yet. I'll help someone, and I know WC will, who is new. but at some point you've gotta cut and run to a point where you're not being bothered.

Also, the needing me more than you part is huge. I've never needed a hunting party. I guess I'm just lucky enough to always be able to kill the mobs I need to, with any class, to keep up a decent ranking pace. I've gotten Invokers to ~30 with no party and no guild quests before 23 (forgot about them, actually). Just know your areas, your vulns, and you'll be set. This goes for any class. But, some people won't rank past 3 or 4 without a party, and that bothers me, for some reason. They feel they need help with those levels, but will spit out orders and insults without giving anythign back to the group past a chill touch here or dirt kick there... you reap what you sew, whether with your own personality or yoru characters.

Just because someone RP's an elitist prick doesn't mean I have to like it, or my character does. Go out hunting with a guy for a thanksgiving turkey that constantly gives you a ration of hell for nothing, you won't go out with them again... even more so if you're capable of doing it on your own and they're not.

There are times where the only way to get me into a hunting party and keep there is to RP while there. But, there are always conditionals;

Is this party moving fast? Are we 4 rounding nymphs and 2 rounding dryads at a tune of 400+ xp each? I'd rather grind the hell outta that, besides, so much text is flying in those cases it's a pain to have to constantly scroll up wards.

Is this party at rest? Sometimes you've gotta wait for repop and that means resting up mana and hp. If someone won't talk/rp through group tell, then they're "wasting" a lot of time. (wasting is my word for it. Other's will say RP is never wasted time, but when I've got 30 more minutes to play before I have to go be social with my half-brained cousin as I teach her math, then I want to get as much outta that time as possible. )

And Iconz, you're not a dickhole, and I don't think you'd ever be able to become one even if you wanted.... would a dick do this:

Some time ago, while I am hunting alone, yes with the same char that couldn't kill the drug dealer, killing dryads and stuff, some guy asks me if I want to hunt. I reply that I am already hunting. He asks if I have third. I tell him I don't but he can join me if he wishes. He says he will join me if I have third. I tell myself wtf, and keep killing stuff.

So, 30 minutes later. I've gained 3 ranks. The guy asks me if I need third. I tell him I am hunting alone. He asks "Still?", I say yes, and thats it.

I agree. Though sometimes it can be hard when people are more interested in hunting and give no feedback, you just have to persist.

I recall Trevian being fantastic to hunt with, because inbetween all of the demon slaying, we had some great conversations. Actual meaningful conversations too. Made the ascent to 50 with an 850 exp-penalty combo much less painful.

Agreed. I personally don't hunt alone because it's boring. But people are annoying when they refuse a hunt just because there's only two people. I at least try it out and if it turns out too slow or I just get bored I leave... but 3 is a nice number for exp, but shouldn't be a magic number.
