delfytheelfy
Hey guys, I have been thinking over the past year or two about re-enlisting into the military. This past week I have been thinking A LOT harder about it then normal... I do have a lot of questions though.... I was previously in the Army and was Discharged with a "General Discharge". I was wondering can I even get back in? I heard there are multiple classes of General Discharge but I'm not sure what what I received nor how to find out because I don't have those forms anymore. Second, If I can get back in... should I? I am 26 Years old, 27 In January.. am I over the military hill? Finally.. this is the most tasking... Which branch? I narrowed it down slightly... Air force or Navy Right now I am leaning towards Nay but would LOVE to hear from anyone experienced in either. I understand some of you are loyal to your core, but please be serious as this is going to be a large change in my life and I want to make something of it. Some Keys Notes I have 100+ Hours In Collage Credits (50,000 in Debt Student Loans SUCK! ) I am Anemic and have been PRIOR to being in the Army (Dont know if that matters) I'm 26 Years Old I have a girlfriend who I want to marry some day and support. Imoutgoodbye
#1: Since you have to go through MEPS, did you ever disclose your anemia the first time? If you didn't, don't tell them. They're evil! They disqualified me soooo many times. Finally got me permanently when they discovered I had varicose veins. #2: I don't recommend military life for the married, personally. Heard too many women complain about being stationed here and there and there aren't enough other women on base...so on and so forth. Not to mention the Marines tell you that if you're deployed, forget about your wife/gf. They'll cheat on you. Shocked the piss out of a few of my friends. #3: If you want to go, go Air Force. You have the best chance at bonuses and perks. #4: My grandfather was FORCED to retire from the National Guard. They kicked him out at age 55. He was still meeting his PFT requirements. I don't think you're over the hill.
inscribed
a general discharge is going to make it challenging to re-enlist, especially if you throw a health problem on top. you also have to consider that there is a rise in people trying to enlist/re-enlist to try and find job security they aren't otherwise finding in the current job market. as for the girlfriend/marriage bit, pay and benefits are really top notch for spouses, but there are not many who have had a girlfriend prior to joining and gone on to enter a successful marriage after joining. i know, i know, your love is special or whatever. everyone says that. then you are gone for months due to basic training/ait/tech school, the woman wasn't ready to cope with you being gone so long so early in the relationship, and she starts screwing your best friend. the only successful ones i've seen are the ones where you marry after tech school and get stationed overseas immediately. that way even if you have an argument or fight, she can't just run home to her parents unless she has 1k to drop on a plane ticket, and there really isn't anyone for her to cheat on you with unless she learns another language. with regards to which branch to enter, air force is obviously the best. the navy has 3000 different uniforms to wear, and the seamen jokes are way too easy. marines are dumb and they are still department of the navy even though they try to pretend they aren't. plus most of them aren't even allowed to drive cars over here because they don't know how to leave base without stabbing or raping locals. i'm down with the army but your working conditions and training will be far better in the air force. an army mechanic is a grunt first and foremost, mechanic is secondary. an air force mechanic is a mechanic first and foremost, and way better at it. Gradrel
I would honestly suggest the Navy. Unlike the other branches, the Navy uses a closed contract, meaning what you sign your name to, is guaranteed. The other branches use open contract, and can change any detail they wish. Dale
I'm gonna tell you if you want to do it, might not want to right now. It is over strength, in fact my unit is trying to get rid of 40 soldiers to meet quota. If you wait until they are back to where they are allowed, you may be able to re enlist with a bonus. Rethrick
well, don't go Marines if you want to be happily married. we are not know for great homes, and most Marine wives are skanks. just saying
