Good luck with the socialized health care Valek....go buy a crystal ball and predict all the emergencies your grandchildren will have. That's the only way it is going to get handled before they die from that splinter or hangnail. You and any of your kids are already at the end of line now serving #7. Unfortunately your little ticket just has a long series of shapes...shapes that will not be served before the earth starts to spin in the opposite direction and crashes into the sun.

Thats utter crap. We have socialized healthcare and the most I've had to wait was 3 hours for a broken arm to be reset.

At most we pay like 30 dollars to see a doctor (perscription drugs included)...

I've had broken arms, broken legs, a torn achilles tendon, a torn acl, crutches, extensive physiotherapy and you know how much its cost? to me personally around $300 over 9 years.

Yeah Krins, while some socialized health care in certain countries has had **** at times, overall it is a great system that can be put in place to be much more efficient than our current system.

I'm all for socialized health care. My insurance for NZ health care costs me like ~$400.00 (NZD, so thats like $260.00 USD) for a year. That was like three months back in the states... And I'm a healthy young lad with no health problems at all.

This is where I love Canada. We have private health facilities on top of our universal health care system. If you have the cash, you are more than willing to go get it done at certain private facilities, otherwise, you can take the great health care provided by the insane taxes we pay.

NZ also doesn't have anywhere near the population of Canada and isn't even a blip on the population radar of countries like the US and the UK. I honestly believe we should try to provide for the sick and injured in our countries...but the sheer crushing numbers of crackheads and car accidents in the USA make a socialized health system worse than anything but shopping at Wal-Mart the day before christmas as far as getting anything done time-efficiently.

What I think is hilarious is that I didn't even know we had a conflict until I came to NZ and all the Kiwi's asked me about it. Lol. I guess down in Florida we just don't give a crap. We get tons of Canadians in the summer all pale with a speedo but other than that' date=' eh. Who cares?[/quote']

I got the impression from various south park episodes and SLC punk and a few other movies, and countless canadians as well.

I love Canadians. As a communications contractor I get to go rape the local telcom companies. Just another damn american buying dinner with canadian gold. You can complain, you can have your internet shut down, and still i will profit from your service provider. For those of you looking for work, these canadians your complaining about pay nearly twice as much for main line repairs. Consider it. I live near the cross roads of America, I get half a dozen free trips to BC every year. Two weeks pay and a plane ticket, and they have never used me longer than three days. And BTW what in the heck are you canadians putting in the water? Some drug that makes the men ugly and the women blind? Lastly, we have the top three cancer research centers right here in BFO.

So when you get it from being near all that electrical crap they can study you?

Its that blasted Sun that causes cancer, lets take it out.

But seriously, I do spend a lot of time in the Hosp. And I have been the subject of several studies. Chemo sucks. Knowing you have to go Sucks. Being treated Sucks. The aftermath Sucks. Oh and paying for it Sucks. (and I did not even mention the "awesome" characters that were shelved and or uncabaled over the last six years because of it.) For those who did not know I have been a cancer patient since 1996.

Socialized health care would take a big chunk out of that

This actually works against your argument. What percentage of population actually requires serious hospital treatment? A hint, it's less than 50%. So the larger the population pool you have, the more taxes you will get and therefore more money. The increase in population means you will have more healthy individuals than sick thus more income than expenditure.

So by this logic, NZ should have a much harder time providing excellent health care than the US.

Yeah we don't make Canada jokes in FL. They probably increase the further you go up north. I don't think it even makes sense, but hey, who am I to judge tradition? ;)

Some of my closest family friends are Canadian.

There is some show in Canada where a dude walks around asking(tricking) random Americans on the streets to say dumb **** and apparently because of that there became a culture of Canadians saying American's are stupid. A newspaper article of that was cutout and framed in a hostel I was staying at. Lol. Jerks.

It isn't about the quality (something I've already pointed out is probably the best here in the US, if not in the top 10) its about the sheer numbers of people that would need to be treated in hospitals. Sure maybe the percentage of Americans requiring "serious" treatment is less than another smaller country...but our smaller percentage represents a large number of heads sitting in a hospital waiting room bleeding out or spreading their TB. You can have the best of something, but if there isn't enough to go around...your system gets spread too thin. Doctors save lives...doesn't make them God, able to treat a million people at a time...ya dig?
