corpsestomp
Has anyone played this game? It's for the original playstation and is quite possibly my favorite turn-based strategy of all time. It has below average graphics and the storyline is very so-so, but I can't seem to NOT play it over and over. So if you're a fan of strategies of any kind, I suggest either purchasing this game(which could be really expensive), or finding some other method of playing it. Then tell me what you think. Guest emp_newb
I still think ff tactics is the best turn based.

Psycho Child
I still love AD&D. And own over 200 books for it... *cough* But I'm starting to understand the ways of 4.0...and its attempts to get rid of power gamers and 27 page character sheets and characters who are GODS. I like the fact that characters do not last forever and grow infinitly powerful. You either ascend, or die. No characters who are 146th lvl in 8 different classes with 672 attacks per round who take 6 hours to complete one round of combat. Theres alot to like in 4.0. Ease back on your dogma Father, let a little fresh air into the Chapel. Maybe its time to add a new chapter to your Holy Books. Call it the New Testiment. It's okay, Jesus did it too. Imoutgoodbye
I can't condone 4th. It's harder for characters to die. They got cockier. The whole system, just....bleh. I see it catering to power gamers. The alignments are gone. And I don't agree with the arguments for why. Bless you people that can play it. But I know Gary Gygax died when they sent him the advance copy of 4.0.
Psycho Child
I can't condone 4th. It's harder for characters to die. They got cockier. Actually if the DM has any idea how to play the monsters, its just as easy if not easier for characters to die. Combat is quite brutal, just no more one rounders at early levels. IMHO a very good thing. The whole system' date=' just....bleh. I see it catering to power gamers.[/quote'] I thought this at first too, but the more I get into it the more I realize its designed with quite the oppisite in mind. It will need some tweaks here and there, and some gaps will have to be closed and oversights mended sure, but overall they are looking exactly to get RID of power gamers. The alignments are gone. And I don't agree with the arguments for why. There are fewer alignments yes. And I don't entirely agree with why or all the ones they got rid of as well. HOWEVER! You can just pick the closest alignment to what you feel defines your character and RP it however you want. As it has always been, its what the DM says goes, not what the Book says in the end. DM always trumps the books, thats why the key is to find a good DM. What the alignment box says on my character sheet at the end of the day doesn't matter to me as long as the DM allows me to role play my character the way I think he should be. SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS IT! God bless you, PC! I heard the 4.0 DMG pretty much stripped the DM and made it plausible for rules lawyers to gain more ground. Unfortunately, I have no time to learn 4.0. Thus, I'm currently DMing for 3.5.

Croyvern
Mr. Gygax made a fortune in the first twenty years. I know I put atleast one of his kids through school. Bought my share of 3.5 books to feed his replacements. I stopped there. Not putting braces on the new CEO's kids teeth. Screw em, lets modify a hundred of ten thousand rules and resell the books. 3.5 works, why fix it? Other than for profit. BTW most 3.5 books have been put out on the net for free. Everything from the PHB, to the Class specialist books.
Imoutgoodbye
I make all my own adventures now. Sometimes I get my hands on old 2nd edition adventures for free, convert to 3rd (for my newbs who never knew 2nd), and add my own stuff to expand the adventure....sometimes just using improv when I get the idea during DMing. I just need a PH for the players, a DMG for me, and a MM for reference. If they want anything more, they can buy the books. I don't invest in anything more than my dice. Croyvern
Since we are talking D&D, I will bring this up. Why are there no Loremasters in FL? We have the heralds, but ask them where this unique or that is and its always the same answer. "I am not certain." Maybe FL needs lore masters, a cabal bent on knowing every monster/item/skill in the game. Perhaps it should be a different side of the Heralds. Keep in mind, I used the word bent. If this pinned gnome voker wants to identify your leggings you better not tell him no. But this orginization could be open to any chars since everyone gets either Lore or Identify. I am not suggesting they get any cabal skils other than perhaps the rival to their current knowledge. If you have lore, we will teach you to identify and vice versa. Maybe its just me, but I have played Heralds, and I hate having to tell some newb "I am not certain, but I will be sure and research it." See I have this theory tht those who really do know, will not play Heralds for what is commonly refered to as the boring factor, the non violence agreement. So lets consider a medium where those who do know could be themselves yet still share their knowledge.

I'm up to six bags of dice...not counting ones that have to be kept specially or all the ones I've lost...you? I, at one point, had about four Crown Royale bags full of dice. Over the years, I've given two full sets of dice to each new player (it's hard to find dice when you're new to the game, much less know which ones you need), lost some, had friends never return some, and an ex-gf who stole half of what I did have. I'll never date another goth again. Biggest drama queens ever. Now I have a half a plastic sandwich baggie full.
Psycho Child
Crown Royale bags do make excellent dice bags. I use one of those for one of mine as well.

killalou
so going back to the topic. Yes, I have played this. However I thought final fantasy tactics was so much better. Though the characters and factions in Brigidine were interesting, The game never picked up for me. For example, playing the golden boy prince and his people (i forgot his name), the first battle was so difficult that it nearly made me quit. I thought it was absurd to have your first battle have you outnumbered, and the enemies at higher levels then you were. I dont know, a nice tutorial battle would have been good to get the controls down. If you are interested in fantasy strategy games you should try warsong (snes), tactics ogre: Let us cling togeter (sega/snes), shining force 1 & 2 (sega), final fantasy tactics (ps1), vandal hears 1 & 2 (ps1), and thats all i could think of now... cookiecutterbox
Brigandine is AMAZING. I forgot the blue northern country, but it's a fun one. Kinda hard I think, but fun. I was playing this game a few weeks ago and I have to agree with corpsestomp, you keep going back to it.
