Locked Half-elves

Alright, so what we have here is a race that has some of crappiest balance of stats in the game, infravision, resist charm, and a +10 to learn (same as faeries but with a lower int).

human: Max: Str: 20 Int: 20 Wis: 20 Dex: 20 Con: 20 (+1 in prime stat)

elf___: Max: Str: 18 Int: 25 Wis: 20 Dex: 23 Con: 16

h-elf_: Max: Str: 19 Int: 21 Wis: 20 Dex: 22 Con: 18

Every class they can be has clear superiors:

Warrior - Giant-size or demihumans or even human

Bard - demihumans

Ranger - Giants

Monk - human? pretty close, but str is key, and humans get +dex for monks anyways

Paladin - Human or elf, pick and choose.

Thief - a million

Ninja - avian, feral, many...

BLM - demihumans, but half-elf can do ok here actually

I propose making half-elves into a very easy, very newbie-friendly race. A race that gets many useful bonuses, but that do not really affect pk at 50 when fully trained.

Here are some change suggestions, please review them individually, not as a group:

+10 to learning (total of +20 so they learn faster)

automaster disarm / shielddisarm: This reflect's the half-elves constant struggles in life..pk wise this won't do much but make training easier and make them more interesting..every half-elf class gets one of or both these skills I think.

+3 luck: Mixed blood is always lucky!

+10 lag avoidance (similar to avian/thief bonus): Helps to avoid grapple/bash/other lagging skills

evil align: anything with human blood is bound to have potential for evil

+1 wis: reflects a half-elf's bad social position and awareness of environment..humans get +1 in prime stat, this helps to regain for that, but not prime stat for half-elf, so not as good. they have a 21.5 dex rounded up to 22, but this extra .5 isn't enough in my book.

automastery sword / 103 prof: I'm all for racial weapon bonuses/specialization, and I'd like to see SOMEONE get use out of swords. all half-elf classes get this weapon I think.

automastery lore / 103 prof: similar to bards...more newbie friendly

shasarazade/xymerria hometown: they are HALF you know...

+2 int: to actually make their stats fall evenly between human and elf

maybe I can think of more later!

This is what I was thinking...

Allow half-elves to be evil align (half-drows).

Good/neutral align should recieve +1 int, evil align should recieve +1 dex.

Open up more classes for half-elf. I could see druid especially as a viable half-elf choice, but also many of the classes that both humans and elves can be, but not the half-elves.

I am not sure about the home-towns actually. Would the elves/drows accept half-breeds in their respective societies?

Automastery in sword seems like a good idea.

they are a bit lacking. the only point i disagree with, is ninja. i loved my half-elf ninja Kailis. the other ideas, some are good. while i don't like making them newbie friendly (that's what humans are for), they could stand for a tweaking in the INT area.

Love the half-drow idea, and the hometowns; I could see elves benevolently allowing h-elves in, and drow overlooking h-drow on the outskirts of society. I also like subtle differences based on align, vis a vis the giants.

+3 luck: Mixed blood is always lucky!

Woot! I like this one:D

Why not let them be mage classes?

Very good ideas. Well thought out and everything.

oh, and:

+3 luck: Mixed blood is always lucky!

Insert Tiger Woods joke.

Kinda contradicting yourself there with having to deal with being a half elf / human and defending constantly against the persecution involved. Being a mutt of both races they are generally frowned upon (in my opinion, though I forget the actual ruling) and would doubtfully be allowed to claim Xymerria or Shasazarade as a hometown

Think of ghettos..slums..anything

just because you are discriminated against doesn't mean you don't exist.

In most roleplaying history (not that its any reason for this argument) half-elves are outcasted and not accepted in their elven society. A notable exception is Tanis Half-Elven from Dragonlance, and even he was sneered at in his original home of Silvanesti.

Just looking at the advanced dungeons and dragons book on elves here and the section on half-elves on page 22:

Elves, on the other hand, typically see these children as inferior mongrels. They may try to tolerate presence of half-elves, but they view them as simply longer-lived humans. Thus, while half-elves are not often driven from elf lands, neither are they made to feel overly welcome, even as children, nor are there tears at their departure.

So. There you go It can be done even in 'classical' RP environments!

Well, I had no idea avians had a bonus to avoid lag. That's definitly a sweet tip.

Well' date=' I had no idea avians had a bonus to avoid lag. That's definitly a sweet tip.[/quote']

first i've heard of it. can't find any reference in the helps.

Well, they are flying...It seems like even a giant would have a hard time bashing something that just floats up above him.

I'm accepting it as truth pretty much just because Celerity said it, and she know like 10 times more about the game then I do. Although not for long, if she keeps letting sweet tips like this out.

No joke...pretty much I accept things as fact: dictionary and anything Celerity says.

Should I or shouldn't I...aww, what the hell.

I agree. Celerity has great tips.

Hehe, tips.*

Well i'm fairly certain that Celerity has read the code. That is the "only way" you would know about an avian lag bonus, aside from Coders/Imms letting it spill. Though, i've never heard anything about it until just now.

So yes, I take everything Celerity says as fact aswell.

Damn Chay, and I figured the Pbase would get our entirely too immature joke.
