songofsixpence
Aside from being an excellent (if a bit long) novel, it's also a game series. I just recently picked up a copy of the 11th installment and am being blown away by it, amazing gameplay and so much more depth than I remember (granted the last one I played before this was 4, I couldn't read Chinese until much later so 5-10 were out of the question). Anybody else have some fond memories of this series?
Celerity
The game is probably in Japanese, not Chinese...? You mean the series by KOEI? I have one of the games, number 8 I think. I really like it! It is the one where you can be a freelancer. I strongly recommend reading the book, even if it looks long. Anyone who enjoys FL will enjoy that book! After reading it, I came to fully understand how small-scale Japan's and the hellenistic/rome warring state periods are in comparison! Chinese history (even if the book is a romance of the time) is hugely ignored in most Western countries for some reason. Very, very epic stuff. Guest emp_newb
reading the book always made me want a sword named black pommel for some reason.

Celerity
Heavenly Sword (倚天劍/倚天剑) : One of the two magnificent swords described in chapter 41 as being owned by the warlord Cao Cao. Cao Cao carried this sword personally. Qinggang Sword (青釭劍/青釭剑) : This was bestowed by Cao Cao to his clansman, Xiahou En. During the Battle of Changban Knoll, it was claimed by Zhao Yun as a booty after killing Xiahou En in combat. Known in the book as Black Pommel. (Luo Guanzhong, Three Kingdoms p736, ch41) Apparently it is a sword mentioned on a single page.... I guess you remember it from the game?
Guest emp_newb
It is mentioned in more than one page. And yes I recall it from the game.

songofsixpence
Dynasty Warriors was fun, but a terrible perversion of the series, I think KOEI pandered to more action oriented audiences. And I suppose I should clarify, KOEI released RT3K in traditional Chinese and Japanese (neither of which I knew how to read at the time), and the Chinese was the only version that got brought to the US after 4. They didn't make a new English version until recently. I've now learned Chinese...but I have the English version of XI so it's a moot point. And yeah, it became infinitely more complex than 3 was. Though of the old ones, that's definitely my favorite (probably because I was introduced to the system on 3).
