myrek
question 1: are "tells" in emotes affected by spells or is it a giant loophole that tons of people are going to be abusing? question 2: is using your charmies to speak "bad form"? Raargant
Charmy to speak is perfectly fine. What do you mean, 'tells in emotes affected by spells'?
Warpnow
You can bypass spells like silence or drunken speach with emote says. Or at least that is what I think he is talking about.
myrek
when a person: emote sarcasticly says, "Like this, Raar." is it properly affected by: silence, comp lang?
Warpnow
Nope. You can emote say while silenced.
Deykari
You can't, actually. I remember being silenced and trying to emote say, it wouldn't let me. I couldn't even custom emote (no saying) something along the lines of "emote points to his mouth, and and starts mumbling" or whatever. I could only use the stock emotes that are built in. Mister E
what about pmotes and smotes? Same deal I suppose. Oh, and I dont know about emotes and pmotes, but smotes can be seen by sleeping people, and sleeping people can also smote. I can see this as being good sleeping rp like smote Tossing and turning twitches a little and then starts snoring. But are you supposed to hear them in your sleep too? Psycho Child
Charmy to speak is perfectly fine. It is nowadays? Cause I got ruined for doing this once in 1.0. Nice to know its changed.

Deykari
It is nowadays? Cause I got ruined for doing this once in 1.0. Nice to know its changed. Charmies for RP are cool. Be a fire giant, buy an Elf slave, and RP your elf being a slave and you the slave master. Be an Elf, buy a mercenary, RP yourselves as the next two saviours of the light and so on. Zorvakahl (sp?), an Illithid necromancer - I remember RPing with 'it', and they would always have their zombies each individually emoting and saying, sometimes as a group and so on. It make for quite cool little RP sessions... Dey
Guest emp_newb
You can bypass spells like silence or drunken speach with emote says. Or at least that is what I think he is talking about. you can't do it while silenced or gagged. It says you fail to get your point across. Besides any person playing for any amount of time will write a note to bypass it.....
Warpnow
Go try it, emb_newb, cuz you -can- emote say when silenced or gagged. Its cuz all an emote say is is an emote with quotes.
Deykari
Check the first page Warpnow. I'm not sure about being gagged (though I'd imagine it works in the same way), but I'm 110% positive that when you're silenced, you cannot emote say, can't even do custom emotes. You're limited to just the stock MUD emotes. Dey EDIT: Perhaps maybe it used to be that way but the Imm's changed it?
Magick
Go try it, emb_newb, cuz you -can- emote say when silenced or gagged. Its cuz all an emote say is is an emote with quotes. You cannot emote say when silenced or gagged. If you can, then explain to me while on my recent mages, I've been unable to without getting the 'you don't get your point across' message. In fact, you can't emote at all that I've seen, including gesturing at my throat to imply that I"ve been silenced. Perhaps there's a secret way of doing it that I've been unable to find. If there IS a secret way, then I'd call that a bug.

Deykari
Out of curiosity, is your custom say an emote or a smote? If there is a bug that smotes can be seen when sleeping, there may well be a bug where smotes work when silenced/gagged. I can assure you, like Magick says, that when I have been silenced, I cannot emote say or custom emote at all. Perhaps something to look at. You shouldn't able to custom say when silenced/gagged nor should you see smotes when you're asleep. They may well add to RP value, like whispering and what not, but it still shouldn't happen. When you're asleep, why should you be seeing, "Arms flailing over the place like a fish out of water, Bob screams!" Dey

Deykari
I can't test this out from work, but SMOTE can be used when sleeping? If that is true then you could be sleeping yet still use quotation marks when smoting to speak whilst sleeping? Ainbimagh's post seems pretty clear, and I think that must be definately a bug... Warpnow
Heh, ya. I have a little alias set to change my say message for me at will, I thought it used emote, but it seems it uses smote because its more versatile. I have asked imms about smote working on sleeping people, and I was told it was not a bug. I don't think you can smote WHILE sleeping, but you can smote to sleeping people, which I personally like... Deykari
I can see it's uses, but then there is the possibility to abuse it. The fact that you could see people doing just general smotes would be one of them, like seeing someone tying a shoelace or whatever - it's not a big problem really though, I suppose. Nothing earthshattering. But what about if a thief blackjacks me, so another person starts smote-saying, "Hey watch out man, he's laid a trap!". Wouldn't that be abusing it in someway? Perhaps if you're sleeping normally, you have control of when you awake. So if someone smotes shaking you and whispering in your ears, you could awake. But what if you've been knocked unconscious with a sack, or magically put to sleep? If you're unconscious why would you be hearing people talking to you? I suppose you could argue that you're subconscious is hearing it and you're not remembering it until you awake or something to that affect.. The main problem in my view anyway, and the point that the topic is about, is the fact that you can use smote to bypass silence/gagging. That is something that is abuse - if you're silenced, you can't speak. Why should you be able to use smotes to speak? Dey
Warpnow
What about people tealking with gtell, clan chat or cabal chat? Being able to talk to a sleeping person isn't new... Talking while gagged/silenced is abuse, but still not a -huge- deal, most people silence folks so they can't cast, anyway.
