How does everyone know who everyone plays?

I'm probably not making any groundbreaking observations here, but I believe this is one of the major causes of so many people quitting. I'll be the first to admit that I've tried to pry into the characters that certain players play in the past. (Granted I only speak with three that aren't my friends outside of the game.) However, two of those three never tell me who they play. I think this is a reflection of their maturity and their realization that knowing who plays whom contributes to IRL interactions coming into the game and IG interactions coming out into the real world.

I personally believe that this real-life attachment is causing a certain emotional ties to characters' action. This leads to people getting pissed at players, not characters, which makes people think "Gee, this MUD community is corrupt and sucks."

If the characters were anonymous (which I thought was a forum policy at one time), people would just think "Gee, is played by someone really trashy. I need to create a combo to kill him." I think we'd retain our players and have less anger toward the MUD community.

Again, I realize this probably isn't groundbreaking, but I can speak as a long-time player who loves this game and has NEVER been in a position of great power within it. Bottom line, don't blame the community, blame characters.

For the sake of a great game and, essentially, a great MUD community, just do the mature thing. Stay anonymous. I share personal information with three guys, and they're three of my best friends from childhood. To all my other IRL contacts, I will remain anonymous. Sure, I'll still ask for bits of their wisdom, but I won't give them a change to get pissed at ME, just my characters. (Granted I ever get good enough to piss someone off.)

I tell people who ask me, sometimes. I'm kinda random who I tell and when, but I'm usually found out quickly. I don't care who knows who I play for the most part, as it doesn't affect me differently. If someone likes to go ooc to attack me, that's their problem even if they try to make it mine. :)

OOC is everywhere but I don't care about it. Heh.

I have a group of friends in this game who sometimes do share who they play. That stems mostly from all of us asking other questions and advice and even conferring on how the rp will work sometimes to make it the most fun. It's not like we go around "WHOOHOO lookie who I play" all willie nillie like. Some of us even check each other's descs to proof read them and whatnot.

I can always tell who you play. Look for avian restrings.

On a side note I have started to figure out who plays who based on IC actions. For example:

Twin likes avian restrings.

MoP likes playing stormies, and other ODD rp concpts

I play off the wall RP most of the time

Grim plays Clerics, and ogres.

Aulian ALWAYS gets worn leather sleeves, and boots of spell absorption

So on and so forth, The only person I have had trouble with in them going OOC to come after

me was Zrothum, and that was because I pillaged him, thoughthe could keep it in character

and well. Yea.

People always seem to know who I play, for some weird reason. I don't need to mention anything to anyone, hint at anything, people just seem to know.

It doesn't bother me at all, because I don't really talk to the ****ers that play here. :)

Dey

It is pretty obvious when you get someone talking to you in game about rome, and turkeys on ebay. Jeeze man.

Meh, like all people who come here, you will find out sooner, or later, that there are a few players here who can make the game a veritable pain to play. Needless to say I associated with two of them who I will not name, but it cost me some serious effort, and alot of SERIOUS frustration. Just be careful who you associate with, and assume everyone you talk to is trash until they prove otherwise to you. To prevent **** from happening to you that will cause you to want to travel cross country to beat someone up, sleep with their woman, drink their beer, and piss on their couch.

This post was brought on by reading all the recent "I quit" posts. Most of them have to do with complaining about various players' date=' leading me to the question "how do you know who plays whom?"[/quote']

Easy, You tell player A who tells his best buddies from when he was in Pre-School players B and C. Player D complains that your character is killing him so B tells him it's you. D goes about complaing to others about you to his buddies and soon it's everywhere in the scum section of the PB. Because we all know trashy people hang together.

Edit: This was not meant to insult anyone, but if it does maybe you should think about why it does.

I care, which is why I have my secret contingent of trash-gamers working hard to find out who you play as we speak, so that we may organise gangs against you with little-to-no roleplay reason.

Dey

You forgot the pit humping full loots man. Come on, what kind of half *** ooc ring are you running.

meh, I feel that running an ooc ring without broadcasting how lame you are is like robbing someone, but leaving their DVDs.
