Sandbox
im curious what is a "comfortable" hit/dam and saves at 50 for a melee class. Everytime i get good hit/dam my saves suck and when my saves are good, my hit/dam seems to drop dramatically.
Dale
In my opinion you should focus on svspell and then mental with a melee. Afflictive and Maledictive can be avoided by running, but being dispelled sucks and eats your consumables. Attempt a 50-40 hit damroll and you will hit decently. -15 svspell and -15 mental with some -10 affl and male would be pretty simple to gather also. Depends what you're playing. If you're ogre you need to adjust according, similar with feral.
Evangelion
I would actually go for saves in the totally opposite order - afflictive, then maledictive, then mental. It may suck to get dispelled, but it sucks even worse to take damage like you don't even have sanctuary, or to be attritioned by a shaman/evil cleric who's getting lucky with path mals. Calron
Depending on your combo, there are a number of routes you can take. If you are a giant melee, when you are equipping the best thing to do is pump up your hit/dam to around 50/50 without bothering with saves at all. Then fill out the rest of the available spots with saves, and then as you come across better equip slowly build your saves as you can without sacrificing the hit/dam. If you are a non-giant melee, build up your hit/dam to about 40/30 without bothering with saves. Fill out the rest of the slots with saves equipment and then slowly try to up both. Some people will tell you that you need to get saves immediately when re-equipping. When you are equipping as a melee, the best suit is the one that will maximize your hit/dam. This will both help you equip to better stuff faster and let you take out other people that aren't already decked. Getting saves in order to survive when equipping is a pointless idea. Saves are for winning fights, not surviving. Why? Because your feet are what lets you survive. With a good hit/dam, even without saves, you can overpower the wide majority of combos with some skill and tact. Getting an even spread of 30/30 hit/dam (or less) and mediocre saves when equipping is pointless. It'll just put you in a situation where you can't win any fights, and it really won't help you survive any better. And yes, I recommend this for all melee combos including ogres, ferals, dwarves, etc. To re-equip my melees I just load up on all of the best easy-access hit/dam nonrares and then kill someone decked. Worry about saves once you have satisfied your hit/dam necessities.

samag08
I agree with Calron, but would like to add that since you asked for opinions on the numbers end I like to get close to those hit/dam avgs he posted then get my saves to -30 across(including -spell) then add more hit/dam after that point(usually means you are well beyond a "decent" suit. Also for non giant melees I typically like to have at least -300 ac which is very easy to get with a good suit anyhow.
Dale
Everyone has differant opinions and plays differantly. I was just saying what has worked for my thus far. But svspell is nice to build on I can assure you that.
