all the near-flaming and whining.

A gnome invoker at level 35 will not have more than 600 hp assuming all he wears is +hp eq. A fire zerk at 30 will have about 600 hp. Gnome invoker at 35 does not yet have ice shield, does have ice storm. He'll be able to toss an ice storm every two rounds of combat. Assuming gnome gets first attack, he does a dispel, and it takes off the zerk's sanc. Zerk gets a round in, then flees to quaff another vial. In that round, the zerk could easily have done 100hp of damage through sanc without being raged and without being hurt himself. My fire warrior at 15 could throw three dismembers a round with a single weapon, easily 5 or 6 dual wielding. Cut that in half with sanc, you're still talking 5 devastates a round. If the invoker ice stormed, it'd have done about a demolish or obliterate through sanc to the fire giant at most. That's about 200hp, every two rounds, that he can do. Zerk can match that easily before he rages. After he rages, he gets another say 250 hp, and is throwing easily 200 hp through sanc a round while dual wielding.

Yes, a fire zerk at low levels can EASILY outdamage an invoker. The reason an invoker can do it at 50 is mana charge. An invoker at 50 without mana charge will get pounded by anybody.

Never had a zerk do as much damage against me as you guys make out they can do.

Most I have ever seen through sanc is 100-150 a round, at pinn, cabaled.

If I had gnome invoker at 35, with spells, he would have -400 ac at least and the zerk would have to wield non-magic weapons to do ****.

I wouldn't ice storm at first.

I would cast icicle and flee immediately before the zerk can get a single round in.

since we are talking about zerks used to take people out at low ranks he is gonna come in, walking into my firestorm.

between the first icicle and the firestorm, he will have taken around 100-150 hp damage.

Once he walks in I will ice storm, doing around 300 dmg if he is unsanc'd and 150 if he is sanc'd. Assuming he has 600 hp, he has already lost 150 and is at 450. If he has sanc, he can last 6 rounds. If he doesn't, four.

Assuming he does to me 100 hp a round, which I think is reasonable, we are talking 6 rounds I can stay in combat, but why the hell would I?

I will throw out one icestorm, then flee and run. He will think I am running from him and chase, but I will have a reserve of cure crit scrolls like I always do. Every 20 or so rooms, I will recite one. After less than an area, I am back to full health. He still has lost around 300, or half his health. He will run it, I will icicle, offing another 100 of his hp. Then I will flee, find him, and lead with another icicle, taking off another 100 hp.

without sanc, he is dead here, because those 100s are 200s.

With sanc, he is down to 100 hp and will be running, which means I chase with icicle.

oh if this guy comes for me I will do this then that then

this then that, and hell prolly try this so ill do that but if

he does that then ill do this.

SHUTUP!!!!! Just do it when the time comes.

:) Have a nice day.

It would work like that. If invokers had firestorm or mana charge or rare eq at 35.

It's all assumptions and guess work. You can't assume what's someone else is going to do in a certain situation because their actions would be defined by the environment/mobs around them, their own style of playing and many other things. The scenario you posted is one out of MANY that could happen. Who's to say you're not going to fail a certain spell? Even mastered, the chances are there to fail. Perhaps because you've failed a couple of spells you're starting to get beat on and you're now on the run, spells falling so the warrior manages to catch up with you whilst you're re-applying? Who's to say the warrior hasn't got a stock of certain items that will help him heal, and you fail to utilize all your scrolls?

There are too many possibilities and scenarios to draw up due to again, the environment and the fact that you can't predict what another human is going to do (unlike AI in some cases) as well as luck and game mechanics.

If one player is better equipped and skilled than the other, with permitting circumstances, they're going to have the advantage.

Just my (english equivalent) two pence. :)
