Transformers: Revenge of Michael Bay's Directing

I saw Transformers last night...

It was awful.

Reasons I Hated Transformers:

1) Incredibly predictable plot. About forty-five minutes into the movie, I turned to the person next to me, and predicted the entire next hour and a half. Which was drawn out entirely too long.

2) Awful dialogue. Namely from the kid's parents and roommate. Especially the totally irrelevant and pointless reefer brownie scene. And over-reliance on sexual content to produce humor.

3) Not a huge Shia LaBeouf fan in the first place, and so the fact that he was one of the better actors in this movie speaks volumes (to me, at least).

4) Totally filled with anti-Obama political sentiment. Regardless of whether you're an Obama supporter or not, you don't go to see TRANSFORMERS expecting them to essentially call Obama a coward and a Decepticon. At least in the first movie, they had the sense to make the president nameless.

5) The people I went with said it well - "Everytime I would get sucked in for like five minutes, they would go and do something stupid.

6) Oh, and Devastator had testicles. Testicles that were actually, in the movie, in the script, called a "scrotum," by John Turturro's character.

Also, a reviewer from Rotten Tomatoes had a good thought regarding this movie. Something along the lines of, "The first one was pretty good. The second one was like listening to rocks tumble in a clothes dryer for 2.5 hours." If you feel like wasting ten bucks, go see it. But in the words of Tim the Enchanter, "I warned ye! I warned ye!"

Yes, the dialog was completely retarded. Although it was fun to have that dialogue with "The Twins" who were honestly good characters. For the parents and the Leo character to have the same crappy rediculous spew thrown from their horribly acting mouths was completely unnecessary and scene ruining. The Transformers themselves were, most of the time, well done.

My only problem with the Transformers themselves is that it felt like they tried to jam too many characters in, and only focus on Optimus Prime. It's like bringing a full arsenal of weaponry, and ONLY using your shotgun. The action scenes were top notch though. Like they say, the only thing cooler than ten minute slow motion is a ten minute slow motion fight scene involving giant robots.

for pete's sake

it's a movie about giant robots bashing the **** out of each other, who gives a **** about dialogue and plot.

Answer me this, why did you go see it on opening day? For the dialogue and plot?.... no.

pft

Yes, there were a million things that would've made it better but just enjoy the eye candy of a kid's cartoon based on a Japanese toyline retrofitted for American's that cost hundreds of millions of dollars to make.

Prime was badass, Megatron and the Fallen stunk it up. So what; they're 40 ft robots on the ****ing movie screen! Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!

I've heard **** reviews from a lot of people, then also good reviews from others. I was horribly disappointed with the new Terminator movie but there

was a crowd of people that loved it.

It's just one those things where a certain bunch of people will like it, and another certain bunch of people will insist it's garbage. Opinions - you gota

see it to have one, 50% of me wants to go see it because of Megan Fox, and yes I do think the main actor is a little turd.

First, I will say that I still haven't watched the film, but from all the reviews I've read I can simply say the following:

The films seems to be made for a certain group of people. If you are entertained by a deep storyline and great acting, then Transformers is not really for you. It was never meant to be for you.

But if you like to see big living machines tear the sh*t out of each other in epic battles, massive explosions, big guns, hot girls and some humor then this should be right up your ally.

If the movie is your genre/interest, you'll enjoy the movie, if not, you don't watch it. Easy as that, its like same as, asking some Horror movie freak to watch a romantic comedy. No interest in the genre = poor review.

I love the genre. I even vaguely enjoyed the first movie.

Perhaps I just need something a little more fulfilling than watching a bunch of robots pointlessly beat the **** out of each other for 2.5 hours. If I wanted that, I'd watch monster truck rallies or Fox news.

Saw it today, and this pretty much sums it up. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Balinor, I will say this:

Without the first film (1986) there would likely be no Galvatar, and thus no impetus for a vengeance which consumed/defined you for your teenage years.

EDIT: Of course without watching seasons 1+2 of The Transformers something is lost in the translation there....

I enjoyed it, Blockbusters like Transformers are made for the larger crowd so a family or your girl friend will enjoy it, I believe Balinor is just a movie snob :P

I go into movie's to be entertained not to sit there judging on how they could be better produced.

+1

In fact, +1 on top of that.

I enjoyed it - and yes it felt a bit 'long' in places but so did LoTR and I've read that trilogy multiple times.

The movie was great fun - though I didn't think Optimus was coming back (though no Hotrod to take the Matrix this time....).

I'd recommend it - then again I ride a bike so seeing Megan fox on the Aprilla and other two wheeled excitement machines probably means more to me :-D

Odd. I am pretty sure you hated the first movie. Matter of fact, I am pretty sure you posted something to that effect two years ago. Therefore, I am surprised that you would go see the second one - on the night of the premier much less. As for me, well, let us just say I have other ways I would rather punish my wallet during a recession; I do not see myself at the movie theaters until the next installment of the Iron Man series.

EDIT: Yes. My memory does not fail me:

It takes a damn good movie to get me to the theatres.

Last two movies I saw in theatre where I paid (in chronological order): Transformers and Gran Torino.

I think I'll just wait and rent everything else though. Too expensive to hit the theatres these days. Not to mention I don't trust anyone to babysit the kid.

Haha. Well, seems you caught me when I couldn't even catch myself, Malch.

I think it would be more accurate to say that by vaguely enjoyed the first movie, I mean that it was better by comparison, and is actually at least a tolerable movie to sit through. If I'm over at a friend's house with a group of people, and someone pops in Transformers, I'm not going to leave clawing my eyes out. However, I stand by my analysis: Transformers 2 left a lot to be desired, was not significantly different in any real way from the first Transformers, and if seen in the company of people who would have refrained from making fun of it for the duration, would have been a terrible experience.

That being said, I would like to say that I do usually enjoy the genre (whatever genre you're classifying Transformers as). Whether you're classifying it as a Science Fiction, Fantasy, or "Kids Shows/Toys Turned Into Movies," I'm typically a fan. Which is why I suppose it disappoints me when something that I've been around since growing up has a movie that doesn't appeal to me. A movie needs more than a hot actress and big explosions to win me over.

And this time around, it didn't even have the redeeming quality of a good soundtrack.

Loved the movie. What I expected and the plot war right. Giant robots seeking energy on other planets seems right to me. I had one thing against the movie....the forced sexual humor. It just got annoying and quite unnecessary. The rest were minor pet peeves that I had. Like getting confused and not knowing who the minor (no main character) autobots and decepticons were when they were warring. It just seemed like robots were flying all over the place. Anyways, great movie.
