Failed my state certification....

Well, went for my state CNA certification.

I got there, registered, turned in all my documents. They hired a smoking hot young thing to be my "resident".

My tasks were Hair Care, Partial Bed Bath, and ROM-Upper Extremities.

Exam started, I knocked, walked into the room, greeted the "resident" by name, washed my hands, put on my gloves, and went to open the dresser. My hand quit moving when I got to the dresser. I looked over at my "resident" and freaked.

I couldn't do it. I was encouraged to continue, but I made so many mistakes, it didn't matter. I can't do it. I can't go back to a nursing home. I'd probably hang myself before I let someone put me in one, too.

I like to test ROM of my middle extremity, while in nursing homes. Hey, why did you get freaked out?

Hey' date=' why did you get freaked out?[/quote']

Half of the month I spent in clinicals was working in the dementia unit. Ever watch some frail old woman in a wheel chair leaning over the restraint that holds her in it wheel down a hallway with her head down, run into a table, and just repeatedly bump into the table because she didn't know where she was, what day it was, and find out her family hadn't visited her in the last eight months?

Well, thats why they pay people to do the job of caring for them :) To do this job effectively you'll have to have a personal degree of emotional distance from them while still showing empathy. Dollars are dollars man. Good luck in what you pursue next, but you better get your *** moving!
