WarriorCleric
Wow AG glad to have you back' date=' I still remember a story you wrote of Brylak and Calandra even though I cant find it anymore. Now to get you hooked again.[/quote'] I swear, I wish I had half the recolection for my studies as I do for FL. I didn't even hesistate on the URL... Old Friends Die Hard. By A_Guitarist The bright yellow moon shined down over the night roof tops of Val Miran. Clad in a flowing dark robe, a solitary figure watched the near empty streets. "Vviiirrrggoootttth," a quiet and feminine voice exhaled. "A new soul comes for your judgment tonight." Her dead eyes watched the streets below, each glance evaluating the prey that ran the streets at this late hour. She hopped from her high perch down to a lower roof, landing gracefully without a sound. As she peered over the edge, a tall man, clad in armor, stood there. 'A warrior perhaps? I must gain a closer look.' She thought to herself. With grace and patience she unsheathed her dagger and eased it down towards the neck of the unsuspecting brute. Slowly...slowly she eased the cloak away from the neck, each passing second the drool eased further over her lip. Her eyes landed on a mark upon his neck, 'A tattoo of the gods, no doubt.' She thought as she bent closer and closer. 'A warmaster' her mouth said, releasing no sound. The drool on her lip, disturbed suddenly from the movement, fell free from it's station down upon the neck of this dangerous foe. Quickly the warrior jumped, drawing his weapons with a skill that was refined with only time and practice. His eyes surveyed the wall, roof top, and ally ways about him, but seeing nothing. "I hear you quivering." He gloated. "Arrogance." She thought as she readied herself for a quick departure. "You should know better than to hide from one of my kind." He grunted as he heaved himself into the air and onto a box. "Where O'where could you be?" She could hear the calm breath of the Warmaster as he stood, seconds away from peering over the edge and spotting her. Readying Herself with her smoke pellets, she scanned the area as she looked for the easiest exit. "Who goes there?" A booming voice echoed down the ally, freezing both the Warmaster and the hidden assassin. "I say who goes there?" The voiced echoed again, but this time closer. "Law man, you best not be interfering with my will." The warrior sneered. "Ah, it's you Brylak." Said the tall figure as it came into site of the Warmaster. "I'll not have any combat within my walls tonight, you hear me boy?" "Dedric, you walk a risky line upsetting a Warmaster that is dra-" Brylak paused, his eyes rolling across the skies. "The shrine..." Dedric watched as Brylak strode off towards the eastern gates. "Lawless fool." He mumbled as he started his walk towards the center of Val Miran, twirling his Claymore in one hand. The robed figure rolled to her feet and eyed this giant as he made his beat. "This Justice serves his own demise." She chuckled, "Virigoth will have a proud soul for his entertainment tonight." She stood, gracefully gliding from rooftop to rooftop as she followed her target. She watched Dedric with studious eyes, mimicking every movement of his with her own body. Dedric found his common standing next to the magnificent fountain in the Central Square of Val Miran. His eyes judging and watching those who passed him by. "Riffraff of the city." He grumbled, unknowing of his tail as she meditated within a long, firm pew of the Neutral Temple. "Move on. Move on." He nodded to the midnight vagabonds. Standing up, the robed assassin walked towards a child, dirty yet peaceful, as they slept under the shrine of The One God. Her hidden face scowled at the innocence of this youngin. "Virigoth holds your soul, now and forever." Her dagger cast a deep line across the boys exposed neck, spilling a thick layer of blood across the temple floor. Dedric blinked, his large eyelids getting heavier and heavier as the minutes passed. "Bah, I need a vacation." He growled as he waved his hand, motioning the city dwellers on that stood in the square. Placing his hands on the side of the fountain, He sat down and faced north towards the great dessert. His started to fall lower and lower when his back suddenly became wet as a splash erupted behind him. Cursing in his native tongue, Dedric jumped and spun around. As he looked down into the fountain's water, he saw a small figure lay motionless at the bottom as a red stain invaded the clear liquid. With wide eyes, his large hand scooped a young boys body out of the water. "This wound is still fresh!" He spat out. "I must call the gu-" "This is my city." A familiar dead voice said scornfully, quickly bringing Dedric eye level with the figure standing atop the fountain. The scream of such a bruiting force brought a wide smile to her face. "You may keep the knife." The robed figure chuckled "I always thought you required a sharper eye." Gorindar charged into the square, followed by his guards. "What in Raught's flarging fury?" His elfin lips spat out. "Sir," A large guard stuttered. "It's Dedric..." "I know bloody well who it was!" "Someone stabbed him in his eye..." With annoyance in his eyes, Gorindar glared at the guard. "Warn the tower Guards, Calandra stalks these walls tonight." "Very well, Sir." Anyways, my favorite part of the story is the 'This is my City,' which I recall Calandra saying an awful lot, atleast to my characters anyway. Other elements I really enjoy would be the way/reason Brylak had to leave in a hurry, and the hinting of direction as he leaves, for those who don't remember in 1.0 the Warmaster cabal was really close to the city, north of the waterfall on the eridani, so it just seemed right. A few other throw backs to 1.0, shrine of the one true god, Raught as the god of law, a neutral temple that had use in valmiran(Rheydin wasn't built yet), and the whole Justice wasn't a total badass, they were practically a punching bag, [JUSTICE] = [bULLSEYE], it was an uphill battle for them but it was very much a sense of pride in the cabal, selflessness or something. I think what made this story special, for me anyway, was that it was short and sweet and was everything that was special about fl. For a lot of us, we had just made the splinter off of AR with the whole crew, finished beta, and it felt like it was truely a new, unique world. It was the first time for us having shrines, and actual dieties/religion system, Shrines, the idea of ninja working for their kills(study), all that. 1.0 was also a very small, tight nit group before the golden era of expanse that came, I still recall fights with all those mentioned, I shamefully admit killing and fulllooting gorindar while he was link dead, I remember an awful lot of fights with Brylak, Dedric and I(I was yekosavik at the time) had a weird relationship where it was friendly foes, we'd pk each other(mostly me dieing... well, I got him once before I was vamped) but we maintained a report as represenatives for our cabals, and Calandra and I would sit and chat, both being undeads. Man, I miss 1.0, how sad is it that I have this much nostelgia for a game. Time for me to go out and meet new people today... WC
Deykari
So, any more of us newer players read this thread and thought, "What the hell?" Welcome back then, to you all.
