klemkin
As someone who does not knowing of you all, or who is old and new, I would really like to show you this forum through my eyes. I see only two to three posts on this forum that I would call positive. Deletion threads, angry threads, and locked threads really have me questioning why any of you is here. I look at the old forum people create links to, and almost every post on there is positive. It is easy for my to understand why people stayed back then. I see Valek doing a very good thing, and I would like to make suggestions, too. People like me, Sandbox, and other newbies, need to see more positive threads. Even more to the point, people who are browsing the forum BEFORE THEY EVEN TRY THE GAME, need to see more positive threads or else they will browse on. Let us face it, this forum is the second-chance face of this game, because the website isn't a good representation of it. I see many people shouting to vote for this game, but what good are votes if people come here and decide to leave before they play. New people browsing the forum cannot see the shoutout forum, and don't know the community enough to care about the OOC forum. They look in this category first. If they see nothing but badness here, they will move on and the votes are wasted. My suggestion is either to the players or the immortals. MODERATORS - I am from in a country where there is much censorship and I hate it. Perhaps a reasonable solution is for the moderators is to have a rubbish can section of this forum. There is no need to really delete deletion, "I quit", "Mock the guy who went OOC", or any other garbage threads. That is strong censorship. But perhaps have a rubbish can, or storm drain, section where such threads are moved and only registered members can see them and comment further? It would make it much nicer looking to nonregister possible players. PLAYERS - I know this may sound cheesy, but why not make a conscious choice to help this game become more accessible to outsiders? For every rubbish, angry, or deletion threads... make 2-3 happy threads? Congratulations look good in shoutouts, but as I said, unregistered new players (like myself for a few months) do not see them or even know they are there. Without giving yourself away, why not try to make some threads of appreciation instead of depreciation to the staff and more importantly the players? I am sorry if I have overstepped my boundaries here. It is just something to mull over. Honestly, vomiting negativity all over forums that is the main page for all interested people to preview the game is not helpful in advertisement. Moderators, please consider the rubbish section, it has worked on other projects I have been involved in when I was younger.

Nikodemus
I support and endorse exponential increase of happeh! Browsing through the forums, it kind of seems like 920% of the playerbase has left forever, which I guess is sort of impressive. What I find amusing is that I view Forsaken Lands to be SIGNIFICANTLY higher in quality in some of the common topics of complaint, such as OOC rings, player antics, overall balance, fairness, et cetera than a VERY, VERY LARGE amount of MUDs out there. I don't think some of you people know how good you have it.

Twinblades713
Klemkin, why you came back to offer us advice I am not sure but let me tell you it elates me that you did. You're proving to be a very valable member here if you choose to be and I hope you decide to roll another character...that is if you haven't already. I suggested something like the 'rubbish can' awhile ago and I still highly agree and support such an idea. It puts all of our dirty laundry into one place and should be maintained there. It's like localizing our cancer. I hope you stick around, Klemkin.
Imoutgoodbye
Thank you, Klemkin. There is one thing, though. We had a "rubbish" section once upon a time in another forum version. It was god awful and only created more negativity. People just have to realize that if they have a problem, take it to the prayer forum. If they have a problem that doesn't involve rules being broken, take it to the prayer forum and see if maybe it should be a rule. If it's not something the IMMs feel should be made a rule, suck it up and realize that you're going to have to improve and discipline yourself. YOU will have to change. Because this game simply cannot continue to evolve for every single player or every time a majority of the player base thinks it needs to evolve. There is a spirit, an integrity that needs to be maintained, both forum and game. They may not be your definitions of spirit and integrity, but they were Virigoth's. Respect that, folks. We wouldn't have this if it weren't for him. Love your avatar by the way, Klemmy. Can I call you Klemmy?
klemkin
I do not mean that we post things there. I mean it to be a section where staff moves posts to that have no positive effect. They lock things, but I still seem them. Deletion threads and other things might also be moved.
Implementor Anume Posted June 29, 2009 Implementor Report Share Posted June 29, 2009 I would say the majority of deletion threads are not negative or at least not intended to be negative posts by the guy who deleted a char. Most have shout outs to a lot of people and just announce that they are gone, either because of condeath or due to other things and that they played that character. inscribed
I would say the majority of deletion threads are not negative or at least not intended to be negative posts by the guy who deleted a char. Most have shout outs to a lot of people and just announce that they are gone' date=' either because of condeath or due to other things and that they played that character.[/quote'] nowadays, its pretty much customary to rank a character to 50, play it for a week, then delete/shelve and make a forum post about it. use to be, only a handful of players ever bothered with these 'goodbye' threads, and even then it was only for the memorable or long lived characters. now, everyone and their mother wants to make their own thread about characters with next to no hours and that no one will remember come next month. oldskooler
Klemkin. I am not sure if you saw, but I sent you a positive pm, just like I did to sandbox. I am willing to help anyone who wants help. Just as I spoke to L-A and a few others regarding help with my berserker because I do not usually play that class. Yes, there are some negative people in the forum just as my city of Philadelphia is FULL of negative people. If you smile at someone on the street they give you a look like you must be mentally challenged. Now when a person complains it is ok, as long as they take advice that is given to them and are looking for a solution. If you just whine and when kind people try and help you or give you advice and you do not take it or respond to it, that's when you're whining just to whine. Bottom line, a lot of people just like to hear themselves talk and only read what they post and the replies they get from what they post. As far as voting goes. By voting maybe you'll get more positive people to come here.
Sandbox
If you don't mind i would like to add something. When i first came here seeing the forum posts and being used to a very different type of mud environment i had a very piss poor attitude, and i let those posts feed that attitude. HOWEVER, the community as a whole has changed my perspective and play style due to their kindness and openness. I think the playerbase and the staff both deserve a pat on the back because this is the first mud i've joined where the majority of the people are concerned with the quality of the environment they play in and create. The staff is very good about listening to advice and suggestions, as well as lending tips when needed. On the same accord alot of the suggestions i see from players are aimed toward balance and for the good of all. I've seen VERY few suggestions that seem biased or just to buff 1 class. I love the fact that you are new here like myself and you are already contributing to the well being of the community. I understand why you deleted, the first 50 is always tough. When i came here i had mounds of mudding experience in other similar coded muds. I did extremely well with Emertis but i let my emotions destroy a very fun character. There were other contributing factors as well but i will keep that between me and Anume, she had to crack the whip on me a few times. If you dont roll another toon, i will be upset, because you are skilled and classy and a valuable member of this FAMILY.

Psycho Child
You have no idea how much of a huge proponent I am of all races having access to all classes. The ONLY exceptions I am willing to concede to this are the following: Paladin Dark Knight Healer Shaman Necromancer Druids Lich Crusader Vampire Which would be available to all races of the proper alignment. YES THIS MEANS I AM FINE WITH NEUTRAL MONKS/CLERICS! But this is a topic for another thread. PM me for further foaming at the mouth ranting!
