Ali_gmud
I just want a really really quick answer, has anyone - or can we write out a description where our character is mounted on a creature of some sort, but of course focusing less on the mount? Pieman
I've never seen it, but a desc based on a picture like this would be awesome.
Evangelion
As long as it's relatively decent in spelling and formatting, I see no reason why just about ANY description that meets the requirements of 'Help Description' wouldn't be reasonable. I know if I were an IMM I'd rather see things other than "Such and such is standing here, flowing locks of raven hair spilling down his face." or "Such and such is here, brightly polished armaments giving the impression of a strong fighter." Anything to spice up a description, that meets the requirements established in Help Description would be good in my book. So since, to my knowledge, that meets the requirements, bring it on. Mudder
Desc requirements have changed a LOT since 1.0, and it seems every staff has different standards. 1.0 was incredibly strict. You could not describe ANY form of action, standing, sleeping, etc. ONLY what you looked like. Not even armors were allowed. 2.0. Armors were allowed and generally everyone got a dragon. 3.0. Armors are allowed, dragons are rare again. I sometimes wonder if Imms have read the descriptions they have approved. 4.0. Same as 3.0, yet things are getting stricter again. I would say riding anything in a desc is a big no no. If you just died, naked, and blackjacked being spelled up by a necro, would you still be mounted atop a random beast? No. If you want to RP it, more power to you. Use emotes. That way people will actually see it in the first place. It is rare for people to read descs these days. klemkin
The first 3 characters I have made in this game were all placed in the description room for some time. They are strict.
Mudder
I mentioned they were getting stricter again(which is a good thing) but you have no idea what it was like to be under the description Nazis of 1.0 lol
Pali
The basic guideline I've always followed is this: what would a person glancing at me while I'm just standing around see? Nobody's had a problem with my descs in years.

Nobody's had a problem with my descs in years. I've argued certain points. Like while motion or progression is unacceptable, along almost exactly what Pali said, I like to put small actions that my character does consistently or frequently. It would be foolish not to think so.. Being that I've recently received a dragon using dcheck (and when I logged on I had it in my inventory). Mudder
That comment was actually more of a statement worded as a question. I have read descriptions that would have been impossible for an Imm to approve if they had read it. Unless a character changed it after approval, the Imm did not read it. However I fully admit I have not had this problem in at least a few years. I noticed it mostly when Behrens was in charge. Not sure what that says as I am sure he wasn't the one approving descs. Imoutgoodbye
Oh, c'mon. 1.0 wasn't that bad. I was in the description room ONCE and the best compliment I ever received was Viri himself appearing before me to tell me I had one of the best drow thief descriptions he'd ever seen. songofsixpence
Heh. I got a dragon from Crypt's girlfriend-now-wife's IMM for having a female character that didn't focus on breasts and how seductive she was. She also complimented me on having one of the best female descriptions she had seen solely because of the non-sexual focus. Realism can get you alot sometimes. Evangelion
Oh' date=' c'mon. 1.0 wasn't that bad.[/quote'] Ask Cycel to tell you the story about the time Adanon (A-Guitarist) placed him in deep **** and slayed him a couple times for not having a good description. Also, I'm inclined to agree with the notion that there's a breakdown somewhere: either the reading is not as close as it might need to be, or we just don't care about being spelling/grammar nazis, or the person changed the description after the fact. Implementor Anume Posted July 7, 2009 Implementor Report Share Posted July 7, 2009 If you see something in a desc you think is unacceptable, please post a note to Immortal including the char name and what you think is so wrong about it. Sometimes a thing is overlooked or really changed after the desc is approved. If you change your desc later in the chars life, please just note us / tell an Imm to have a quick glance at it. As to mounts, I usually say no to that, unless it is a class that has this mount constantly (ranger, paladin). Even then the main focus should definitely be on the character. Personally, I like those descriptions more where you get hints at the personality of the char rather than a detailed account of what someone is wearing. If I can picture the char before me and he/she is unusual, that often gets a dragon from me.
Evangelion
Obviously since you're an IMM, your opinion trumps mine. (I don't mean this with any sarcasm) However, just from a personal standpoint, I would rather see someone describing the sweet mutated forest creature they've lassoed and are now constantly riding than see the consistently average, "Such and such is wearing such and such and has such and such skin color and such and such hair" descriptions. I'm guilty of them too, and I intend to ramp up the creativity in my descriptions.

I've Killed for Less
I had a female DK a while back. Later in her life i wanted to see if you could change you desc so i decided to give it a try. I changed it to. Lauriana is here Isn't she pretty? It went without being changed for a month or so and I know a few people got a good chuckle out of it. Pieman
I would also like to see some humans, giants, ogres, ferals, halfers, avians, gnomes, half elves that are getting up in years write new descs as more mature and older chars. That would be cool.
