Imoutgoodbye
After a week of trying, here's what I've figured out: 1. Dental clinics are BS! I don't qualify for medicaid and even if I did it wouldn't matter because the State of Michigan's medicaid no longer covers dental/vision as per our state budget cuts. 2. Dental clinics are almost as expensive as a regular dentist! Like, a $10-15 difference on services. 3. It takes longer to get into a dental clinic because I've never been there before. 4. Dental clinics want me to 4a. Fill out an application to see if they can take me because I carry Blue Cross Blue Shield. 4b. Want me to pay for all services in advance. HA! I'd rather go see a local dentist. And pay in advance to someone that I know. This state's so full of crap.
Dizz
Check out dental discount plans. They have saved me a LOT of $$$ over the years. Usually it's 25-50% off the regular prices. I used Ameriplan for years until my work provided dental and I got good care and cost. Check it out. The monthly fee is pennies compared to the savings. songofsixpence
I hate dentists as well, although it's for completely unrelated reasons. Over here, the offices that accept my insurance appear to be full of rude and incompetent staff. In the past 2 months I had one office tell me that I wasn't on their "list", had my presence confirmed by my insurance and a letter faxed to the dentist only to be told that faxed letters, even from the insurance company weren't accepted (after the insurance rep was told that it would be). Another office called me the day before my appointment and asked if I would show up a little early (being that it was my first appt there, I expected that), then upon arriving I'm told that they can only see me, not me and my wife (although I had set an appt for both of us) and that they will only do an exam and x-rays, I'd have to return for a cleaning. Dizz
Sounds like you need to change providers. Dentists are like car mechanics. You need them and they know it and treat you accordingly. Keep shopping around for a good one, it will be worth it.

I've Killed for Less
I go to Mexico for all of my dental work. Its SO much cheaper and you can still find qualified dentists to help you out. Plus I can get all the pain meds I want when Im done without a prescription. Gotta love Mexico. IKFL

Croyvern
Struck a nerve. So I will let you in. Here is what you have to do. Medical insurance will not cover your teeth right Reverend? Do what I did. Visit the doctor, tell him you have had atleast one heat stroke, possibly more. Tell him you can not drink water because all liquids hurt your teeth. There is a claim waver form your doctor will know about. Your dental troubles can cause larger often more expensive medical issues. News flash! A lot of dentists, especially surgeons are Doctors. Your doctor refers you to this other doctor for what is quickly becoming a medical emergency. Dentist charged me 135 dollars a tooth to pull four. Surgeon pulled eight, my cost? 20 dollar co-pay. Sure beats the cost of pills on the street!
Imoutgoodbye
Well, I'm off to the ER to see what I can get done. I've been out of my antibiotics since Thursday night, my vicodin Friday, and the ibuprofen...well, practically useless by itself. The pain isn't too bad, but the pressure around my jaw/face/skull is, so, hopefully I can get some more stuff. I have a dentist appointment the 29th. Just have to hold on until then. EDIT: Worthless trip. I got a scrip for 14 vicodin and told to try to find a dentist that can get me in sooner. It's a dental problem and I need a dentist, not drugs. Guest emp_newb
Agreed. I recommend scouring some lists of dentists/DENTAL SURGEONS (more for the surgeons) who will cover it. I had a similar issue: I had an impacting wisdom tooth. It was coming in at a HORRIBLE angle, making my mouth swell, and making it VERY hard to close my mouth at all. I found 0 dentists my insurance would cover, so I found an oral surgeon (which I thought WAS a dentist) who my insurance would cover. All that bastard did was shoot me up with novacaine, and put some metal rod on the tooth then push until it crunched, then tugged it out. I got Lortabs But I would highly recommend searcing for Oral Surgeons
