Imoutgoodbye
Spindle Disk: A spindle disk is a tiny exotic melee weapon. The fist-sized sharpened crystal disk has a seam around the edge and a 3-foot cord wrapped into the seam. It is used like a yo-yo; the wielder spins the disk outward at a target, and, if it misses, it automatically winds itself up again (it can be used to make iterative attacks). If the disk hits a target, it must be wound manually (a move-equivalent action) before it can be used to attack again. A spindle disk is technically a thrown item and uses the wielder's Dexterity bonus instead of Strength for the attack roll, although it does not provoke an attack of opportunity when used. The wielder's Strength bonus applies to damage. Cost 5 gp; damage 1d4, critical x2, weight 3 lb., type bludgeoning. Yes, Bouldershoulders ftw. Implementor Anume Posted August 6, 2009 Implementor Report Share Posted August 6, 2009 The sad thing with almost every series is that the chars get very predictable in the long run. I enjoyed Drizzt in the Dark Elf Triology but the char got a bit stale in the sequels. Feist is not really much different, I think I have almost all of his books and the main chars on Midkemia also get a bit predictable and stale eventually. The ones on Kelewan were a breath of fresh air though I think I also own most of Dragonlance, 20 + of Forgotten Realms, Tratchetts Discworld and a couple other complete series... My collection is far too big for any shelf now unfortunately, so about half of my books are down in the cellar.
The Professor
My collection is far too big for any shelf now unfortunately' date=' so about half of my books are down in the cellar. [/quote'] I will refrain from asking what else is down in that cellar... On topic, I would have to say, "READ THE WHEEL OF TIME, if you haven't." I really enjoyed the setting, atmosphere, and vast backgrounds/histories of not only different cultures and individual stories, but the world itself. However, there is an expansive list of different characters that could play a pivotal role at any time...in some cases characters change their names and appearance...only to be revealed later on...so, a good deal of twists and surprises because it is a bit taxing trying to remember 100's of characters that come in and out. The only other thing I didn't really like...would be how the sexes are portrayed, mainly females, but men to a lesser degree too. He really embellishes on all the cliches about men and women and their inability to communicate. Of course, it helps make it easy from a writers point of view... "shrug" Also, he makes women fit a specific mold, taken from a mans perspective... He does the same for men, but not to such an exaggerated degree. It really is a good series, I've just tried to explain the absolute worst in the book and if you are still willing to give it a go...then, you will surely like it...if not love it. Imoutgoodbye
The exaggeration of women's roles in fantasy settings are usually relegated to medieval times, which wasn't an exaggeration. On the other hand, Wheel of Time and Sword of Truth series I found to be so similar, I was disgusted. I never finished reading either, mainly because one bored me and the other I felt was a huge rip-off.
Implementor Anume Posted August 6, 2009 Implementor Report Share Posted August 6, 2009 Got the Wheel of Time series, however it annoyed me a lot that the author had to die JUST before finishing the last book of the series. Damn cancer. And I agree that the author's view on women is very odd. Perhaps some personal weird experiences?
Imoutgoodbye
How many Ravenloft books do you have? I own two and have difficulty finding them in most book stores. HUGE recommendation for Knight of the Black Rose. No recommendation for Knight of of the White Rose or whatever that book was that was such a poor excuse for a Ravenloft book that TSR put out just to put Soth back into the Dragonlance world. Guest emp_newb
It was awesome how badass Soth was in Krynn. Tossed him into ravenloft. He is not so badass.
Imoutgoodbye
It was awesome how badass Soth was in Krynn. Tossed him into ravenloft. He is not so badass. I wouldn't have wanted to run into Soth in either place. The Gothic Horror of Ravenloft appeals to me, especially befitting the fallen paladin, it's quite a Romantic domain.
