The Professor
This past month has been so topsy-turvy that I just haven't had the time to play FL, much to my dismay. First, my sister goes into the hospital for renal failure...she is paraplegic with an extensive list of health problems...but a person is never really prepared to lose someone they really care about... Second, my vehicle was vandalized and broke into...a box of cd's and another box of dvd's were taken as well as some jewelry... Needless to say, I have been down and out...more so worried about my sister, but still, no one likes their stuff stolen either...more than 50 cd's and around that in dvd's... However, the start of this month has been shaping up nicely. My sister is out of the hospital and doing much better! Lastly, a neighbor that lives next to where my vehicle was parked, was not only able to identify the suspects, but has also named them...so, I will be going to the police tomorrow with a list of "some" of the stolen items and hopefully this will be taken care of... Just thought I would share...thanks for reading this far...any info about how to handle reporting a theft would be appreciated.

Dizz
Geez, what a run of bad luck you had! I'm glad it's shaping up now. About the theft, try to get as complete a list of the missing items as you can. Apply current retail value to them. $15 per each mostly.
The Professor
Thanks Ladyoki and Dizz. I have made out a list...not even half of what is lost, just what I know for a fact I owned, and just rounding the movies and cd's to 10 bucks each...it is over $500. Of course, I had boxes on top of boxes, those big banana boxes, full of books...not a single one touched. Some of those books are far more valuable than those Cd's or Dvd's. Guess that shows alot about the mind-set of a petty thief...*mutter*
Celerity
Books are really heavy!
Imoutgoodbye
I'd roll a character and take out your frustrations on every thief/shaman in the game.
The Professor
Books are really heavy! Too true...but that just goes to show you what I would be interested in the most..."shrug"
The Professor
I'd roll a character and take out your frustrations on every thief/shaman in the game. PK has never been my forte...but, with this new-found "frustration" maybe I could muster up the ability to ruin a few peoples day... or maybe not...maybe I would just end up getting MORE frustrated... corpsestomp
Books have almost no resell value, cds and dvds, however, do. I just sold close to 1000 paperback and hardcover books from my grandma's house, and probably only came up with about $500. It's hard to find people to sell books to as well, unless you're in a large town with lots of books exchanges/self-employed sellers.
The Professor
I don't know how small of a town you live in...but mine is rather small...and there are still 2 bookstores that buy and sell...however, I know I wouldn't get as much...so I drive 25 miles down the road and into a city where there are 15 bookstores and I do get my asking price...which is only about 20%/30% less than what I paid when it was new... Leather bound gold leaf books will bring an even better percentage... I have collected several books from stores going out of buisness...even yard sales...only to take them with me on my trips into the city and actually make a profit. Of course...paperbacks are a lost cause...unless really old and in very good condition...which is rare to say the least...I only buy paperback for personal use and if I can't afford/find the hard cover version at the time. If I am getting rid of paperbacks...I just donate to the library.

I sold some of my great uncles books which were first printings.. Over 10,000 US for a set of twelve. (Titles meaningless as they were south African books written in afrikaans.) If its the right book, its as valuable as any other collectible eg: Records.
Kyzarius
Wrong. I sold some of my great uncles books which were first printings.. Over 10,000 US for a set of twelve. If its the right book, its as valuable as any other collectible eg: Records. sorry, here Aulian let me explain in a way that you understamd... MOST ALL books have no resale value. His statement wasnt wrong, just not excessivly focused on obscure pointless exceptions like yours
HouselessRogue
MOST books aren't worth diddly but in the US you can donate them for 1/2 - 3/4 the original value of the book and use it as a tax write off.
