The Reverend's Work Plan...

Here's the deal:

You all remember I was demoted two years ago after my knee blew out at a wedding reception? Well, since then, everyone that works at my store is related to someone else now. The girl who took my shift supervisor position went to a store 10 miles north called Alma and I was told that position no longer existed. After that store in Alma close, she returned and *BAM* the shift supervisor position came back.

So, this girl, we'll call her Jamie, is related to Nack, Krista, and Vila. Nack is her cousin, Krista is Nack's wife, and Vila is her sister-in-law. Jamie's husband (her uncle by marriage) is doing time in jail on CSC charges. Krista (who was the only person I got along with at work) quit after she separated from Nack because Nack and Jamie basically kept bringing crap up at work and my boss and assistant manager never did anything about it.

Krista quit two weeks ago. She warned me in advance that she heard Nack and Jamie wanted me out of the store, too. I've launched preemptive plots on both of them. I've left some things not done/messed some things up to make it look like Nack's not been doing his job. Jamie's easy because she's been confronting me over job duties/the new EBT card system/store specials....whatever she can find to confront me over, but I'm always right and have been letting the boss know that Jamie's telling me she's right because "The boss said" and my boss hates it when someone uses her name like that. She's been doing it so much, I've even made a few things up she never said.

Nack and Jamie have also developed a habit of coming in late/hungover on the weekends and I've made a few phone calls to the corporate office.

Now, here's where the last few years and the next few months come into play.

My boss has been hiring off of Jamie's suggestions. Hence why almost everyone in that store is related (with the exception of me) and my boss has also always hired her nieces/nephews to work our split shifts which are basically cleaning the stores, etc...instead of using the school's work program to help students there have a job/school credit. One person she hired is part of the reason the Alma store closed. He was a cousin of Jamie's and our boss took over that store after its previous manager was fired. Jamie's cousin took what was starting to turn into a flourishing business venture and through theft, broke it completely. He was fired and the store was closed.

Now my assistant manager is going on maternity leave and my boss has no one to rely on after she goes because she's starting to realize Jamie is retarded. Plus, Subway, which resided in our station is moving out and we'll be having a construction company come in to expand our cooler. The last time our store was renovated, my boss had a nervous breakdown, would cry every morning, and was on anti-depressants.

My plan is simple: Screw with my boss until the assistant manager comes back, make Nack and Jamie look so bad they get fired (I will push their buttons in every way possible away from the surveillance system), and then call the EEO board and let them know that even with all the applications ever turned in, people are getting special treatment by being related to someone in our store.

EDIT: Oh, and Vila? She's being my helpful little pawn right now as I point out all the special treatment her sister-in-law receives. She has no idea what I have in store.

Why not stop for a moment and think about what all that will accomplish. In all likelihood, your "plan" will not go according to plan, and even if it does, all you've done is antagonized a bunch of people and gained nothing for yourself.

To use an analogy, this is like a kid in college who has had his paper graded incorrectly walking up to the professor and obnoxiously demanding that he fix it. Chances the grade will be raised? Maybe 5%.

Try talking to your manager instead. He may or may not be wrong, but the real world isn't always fair and it certainly doesn't operate on a binary scale. You won't bring yourself up by bringing other people down.

That might be a little harsh, but its an important point. Just saying...if a dev on my team pulled something like that, I would just fire him.

P.S. That also has nothing to do with equal opportunity. A manager has discretion over who he/she hires as long as the decision is not based upon race, sex, creed, religion, color, national origin, or sexual orientation.

I just find it incredibly ridiculous all the drama that winds up in the work place because instead of going through applications she (my boss) is continuing to hire off bad suggestions. (Relatives, always relatives)

I also believe that you by six years you would have rewarded me for all the hard work/dedication I'd shown instead of hiring someone because "cleaning requires a woman's touch".

In theory, I could also wind up with a worse boss/co-workers, but, this kind of petty crap is always going on around my store because my boss has allowed these things to fester.

And the only way I can get away with these things is because they're making it so easy. Every misstep they make, I'm there to catch it. I'm ready to attempt this coup with the EEO one way or another.

Since I've observed most of these people he's worked with, I can honestly say that although I probably wouldn't have gone about it in this particular manner, the nonsense Valek's been dealing with for the amount of time he's worked there, his rage is justified.

Pretty much all the people who work there are idiots.

Eh, “the plot” is a bit much. Kinda reminds me with what is going on with my job at the moment, except no one is related to one another.

Anyways, I say go talk to your boss. Tell him everything that has been going on, (if he is as cool as my boss, he should listen) Leaving things undone and messing things up on purpose so it looks like Nack as you call him, hasn't been doing his job is a bad idea. It can come back to you and then you're screwed. People at my job has tried to place blame of me for things I haven't done, of course I spoke to my boss and had him look at the cameras. As for your assistant manager going on maternity leave, your boss will not have no one to rely on. Have him rely on you. Up the task you can do. Show your boss that you are reliable making the others look bad. It least that is what I do at work. Then again I'm a camp counselor at a dog daycare/boarding and easy for me to bust my *** to get what I want. (should have been made supervisor a long time ago, but I'm treated as such at the moment because I've shown myself to be reliable and hard working.) I hate being a person that goes to the boss every time something wrong goes on, pointing blame, but sometimes it has to be done. Coming into work hungover and late is not cool, and I think your boss would agree also. If it's the weekend and your boss doesn't come in on those days, perhaps you can ask him to come in and watch as these two come in hungover and late. Could be funny. I'm sure he can look up the time to see the past few days they have come in late.

Then again I probably don't know what I'm talking about and should be ignored. :)

Zhokky's right! The only thing I can file with the EEO for discrimination via familial status is in regards to housing. And I can't file anything on behalf of all the applicants who wasted their time filling out applications to never be considered.

In the meantime, I'll continue my job hunting (I've been looking for almost two years now) and continue to get whatever satisfaction I can from tormenting the hell out of my co-workers.

Sorry, Zhokky, I just can't take the high road on this one. When you've had your ideas stolen, your co-workers treated better, and your boss thinks stem cells come from dead babies/our President is ruining the economy so his true country can take over the US/men are bastards....you kinda start to lose your grip on some things.

But I swear that I used to be a model employee and my morals are still there. They're just locked away for now in one of Al Gore's safe boxes. ;)

EDIT: I wish I could say I had a firm grip on my darker side, but I don't and these people have pushed me to the point I don't care. Not an excuse, not a justification, I just am what I am and I can't be more if I don't have the desire.
