Having a place besides your town guildhall is one of the main reasons for joining a cabal.
Why would I go to a town to rest/heal/spell-up when I can do that in my cabal and take advantage of services? I'm not saying this is the norm...only if I'm nearby and it makes sense. Most of the time I'm nowhere near the cabal but in those instances where I need something or need to rest for an extended period of time (maybe I have to write a note or go to the bathroom).
Nobody in this thread said that the purpose of a cabal hall was to be a safe-haven, you are confusing the point. We are instructed to defend our cabals when intruders approach. Hide classes make us have to attack our own guardians in order to do that. Two of the four hide classes can knock you out, 3 of the 4 get a surprise-type attack. Advantage = Hide classes.
It's too bad there isn't a unique item that lets people detect hidden/camo
Hrm. Yes. Ninjas can hide and study you, taking advantage of their enviroment. Yes, we could make it so they can't do that, but then we'd just make rogue classes fodder to zerks, warriors and rangers.
Look, a melee class should be able to take down a rogue class pretty easy if they get the upper hand. We are talking three or four rounds of combat. Imagine mister ninja walking to attack the cabal, getting hit by the cabal guardian(who hurts) and then getting bashlocked by a fire giant...what chance did he have?
If you're a giant or melee class quaff that edit: potion that helps there, aim at the rogue. Kill them, flee. If they flee, there aren't that many places they can go, from say the knight cabal.

Oh, I see what you mean. The fact that apart from faerie fog, you can't bring the hiders/camoers etc. out of it without attacking your own guardian, thus making you unable to defend your Cabal.
Sorry for confusing the point there.

If there is just someone "lingering" such as a hidden person around your cabal, is that considered attacking your cabal? I am unsure. If it is not, then what's the reason to defend and faerie fog? Unless they are attacking it what is the need to defend? They could be there just looking for you.
You can study into the cabal (for cabals without doors), or you can wait outside and study while they defend. That's the issue at hand.
not just ninjas since thieves/bards can also steal from you while you defend.

You mean....ninjas might actually have to fight to get a kill?
My personal feeling is that, while cabals are supposed to be a bit of a safe haven (translation: you don't die in there 9 times out of 10), anyone sitting in their cabal long enough to get studied up and ASSASSinated upon departure deserves it, especially if they are foolish enough to leave without all of their protections in place.
I have a simple suggestion for ninjas.
When they meditate, make it so that they can't move around or do anything at all. It makes RP sense (as of now, ninjas run around/run around, auto-meditating on the tick while running for dear life), and would also make it a bit harder to fully study/assassinate someone while they are aware of you, and trying to draw you out with area spells.
I second this idea. It's just insane that they can basically run circle around you and fully study you. Make there that they must stay in the meditating state, and if they break it, they'll lose almost all from the studying round, only get small bit?
Most stupid it is when another thief/ninja gets assassinated, just because of this...

Well, as member of Tribunal, I could get fully studied, and assassinated on exit - while I would be doing something I can do only in cabal-hall - without resting/sleeping.

ninjas are assassins, not warriors.
A ninja isn't going to beat up on like a fire giant zerk. Not unless its a newb. So, yeah, that's exactly what I mean. Ninjas, if they're patient, shouldn't have to fight for their kill. They depend upon the iidiocy of their opponent who sits in their cabal in the path of a study and not behind a door for the very lengthy time it takes to study then just starts walking around.
I dont see how this is even an issue. Its more than enough that you can enter your cabal and be safe, if someoen tried to break in they have to kill the guardian, you have ample time to react, and they also become visible. Not to mention if you are actively in combat with someone, a thief or bard cannot steal from you while you fight.
Yes, ninjas can study you while you are doing your duty to defend your cabal, and then later assassinate you. I say good for them! That is what ninjas do.
Alright, make it so that cabal guards auto attack, and also that you can flee past them, like 1.0.
This is stupid, I've never had problems with being assassinated, I don't think I've ever even been assassinated. Once I got close whilst ranking a char in old solace.
As it stands I think sitting in cabals makes things faaar too easy. You can get into your cabal far far far too easily after you've just been in battle, and the cabal guards take many in game hours to kill.
I remember fighting Barnok on one of my vampires, he'd just sit around the Knight cabal, I'd flog him up and he'd flee back into the cabal, wasn't **** I could do to stop him.
Current guards make it far too easy on cabaled characters, IMHO of course.
I agree with Chayesh, if your sticking about there long enought to have your arse handed to you then its your fault. Perhaps at a maximum have cabal guards send a cb about a hidden presence approaching. I still think people should be able to flee past the guardians
That or make it alot harder/impossible for injured people to enter (ie, those that have recently been in combat, like guildhalls for example.)
You should be allowed to buy a cabal disguise of your most hated cabal.
In other words, Nexus should be able to buy Knight constumes and vice versa, Warmasters buy Savant costumes etc. Make it cost a fair amount of cp and gold and have a one time use, or something to that effect. It could be a piece of eq that you wear and it crumbles when you step into the enemy cabal.
My suggestion is to have cabal guards enjoy the group protection thing from all members of that cabal. This would allow people to take out someone camped at thier entrance without gimping ninjas/thieves/bards/rangers/druids/etc. Study/Assassinate imho is fine the way it is, I have yet to be assassinated since I started. Gotten killed by ninjas before, but never assassinated.
Everything I think is fine the way it is, but if its becoming a problem, then just make cabal guards immune to offensive spells from thier own cabal.
