Reccum
Thoughts? Opinions? Are they viable? What makes them better or worse than other zerks. Discuss.
mya
Viable ? They are a Barrel of Fun. I remember the time i decided to make a Wolf Zerk and run around during the Night attacking anyone in My PK range, while raged. Just for fun. Imagine, you are speaking with someone and night settles in, then suddenly he transforms, roars to the moon and attacks you. Rages and Bodyslams... you flee, he chases you until he dies. Think of the RP this can open. To bad i could never land the Wolf, always go the other ones. So i gave up. Anyhow, Mechanics wise, they are not that good. Medium size. You transform, nice bonus, but you lose your weapon, so no weapon-cleave (or am i wrong ?), defences go out of the Window, but you keep dodge. Dodge is good, but then again can you dual wield while transformed ? Where is Aulian when you need him. For me, Wolf and Bear are best for a Zerk, but i am not very experienced with PK as one. Frankly, i normally view Werebeasts as fodder. Zerks, fodder to.
Nekky
Zerks are not fodder. This is a myth perpetrated by people who don't give them a proper go. Or people who ONLY play good-align clerics. I think a werebeast zerk would be a lot of fun, and could be pretty good against mages. They would struggle a bit against other giant melees, but this could be said about any berzerker. It's been something I've wanted to try for a fair while but never got around to. I dunno. I think each kind of animal would have their pro's and cons. I just wish you could choose your ethos after you discover what kind of animal you are... When not transformed you are a human berserker...prolly worse than any other race selection. I guess the downside is the transform cooldown. ajwetton
I'll just kindly remind everyone of Behrens human zerk he rolled up when people said human zerks sucked. If i painfully remember it didn't suck at all.
corpsestomp
Behrens could roll the pbase with a human cleric. That took the atheism religion.

corpsestomp
I'm pretty sure transformed werebeast zerks do dodge when raged, otherwise, it would leave them no defenses. Anyone want to comment with actual experience here? In any case, from an RP and PK standpoint, they are viable. But they aren't an ogre zerk, so you'd probably have to change your eq selection and playstyle. Also, all four beast forms have good stuff to them. As a ranger/zerk though, I'd be looking for anything but falcon as they all have decent werebeast things...whatever they're called. Edit: Werepower, remembered about 3 seconds after I posted. L-A
Werebeast berserkers do dodge while raged and transformed. As far as zerk being viable or not there are advantages and disadvantages to the race. This roughly translates into good in some situations and bad in othres. I did a comparison of human vs zerk on this thread: http://forum.theforsakenlands.org/showthread.php?t=13394&page=6&highlight=Werebeast If you think giant sized is the only type of melee that is viable then you probably will have a hard time with werebeasts. If you understand that other races can be used - albeit differently - with sucess then there are possibilities. L-A
jibber
I made a werebeast zerk probably close to a year ago. If there haven't been any changes since then, they do not dodge while raged. If there has been some change that hasn't been broadcast, then excuse me. But I know for sure they could NOT DODGE while raged before.

If there has been some change that hasn't been broadcast, then excuse me. But I know for sure they could NOT DODGE while raged before. It was changed by Virigoth less than a week after the changes that caused it were discovered. Without ranking one up to whatever rank zerks get dodge and transforming I can't say for sure, but it worked on my werebeast zerk which was quite some time ago. jibber
Very interesting. I'll have to roll another zerk then. Also I know Mindflayer had a werebeast zerk, posted somewhere.. maybe he can be of more help.

Mindflayer
I could explain all the reasons why I think it's NOT overpowered.. but then no one would try to figure it out for themselves. Croyvern
It seems to me that a lot of weapons that were once made of silver no longer are. When I played my werezerkers silver weapons were easier to come by that had viable average damages. These days I think the number of those weapons would play out favorably for a werezerker. Reccum
Are there really 4 animals? I told myself everytime I ever rolled a WB I'd play whatever I got and work with it. I always ALWAYS get the wold. Even in Halloween madness... Maybe the animal you get it tied to your IP?
L-A
Killalou - I read back over a few of the responses we both put up on werebeasts previously. Mind if I ask what is really so important about the holy weapons as far as a werebeast is concerend? Do werebeasts mainly end up as Watchers? I believe Croyvern was talking about weapon selection, not weapon vulns. Much like a fiery dagger would zap a feral, silver affects the werebeast. I still have gripes with dwarves wielding water weapons
