Imoutgoodbye
God, I hate having vivid nightmares. I'm almost 27 and I still have nightmares that leave me sitting up in bed gasping for air. Oh, well, morning's like this are what the mud are for, right? Imoutgoodbye
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis lol....interesting theory and while I do have sleep deprivation, odd schedule, increased stress, etc...it's mostly me snapping myself awake from the deeper parts of REM. It's incredibly hard to snap myself out of these nightmares, but I know it's a dream. Sounds crazy, but, I do wake myself from these nightmares when they get too vivid/disturbing. It just takes me a few minutes to orient myself to where the hell I am (my bed) and the adrenaline increase/irrational fear just keep me from falling back asleep. At least, I can't find anything in the article that leads me to the assumption I have this "sleep paralysis". Sounds like some theory to debunk all the crazies with ghost stories/alien abductions. Mali
You'd know if you had it. The part about you gasping for air... I get it every now and then. You wake up but you can't move for about a minute. Very annoying.

The-Nameless
90% of my nightmares are zombie infested. WHY!? I had a zombie dream once. I unleashed an ancient zombie evil that decimated the country I was in. Took place (for me) in an area I grew up in. The crazy part? It all started because I accidentally threw a frisbee into the woods. That unleashed a hoard of zombies. I also had sleep paralysis one time. Ever. The dream was a VIVID, and petrifying dream. I was behind a house, I looked up and saw these demonic red eyes floating at me. I tried to scream (in my dream) and not a sound came out, I then backed into the house and hit it a few times with my elbows as it closed in. It never materialized, but I saw a black hole under the eyes. I woke up and could not move at all for at least a minute. I just stared at the ceiling and almost started crying as I was younger, and had never heard of this crap. Also it was all dial-up internet then. None of this fancy high speed. Croyvern
I would like to help rev, so I will offer you the best advice. Every time you wake and remember a dream, write it down. Every detail, I have noted two distinct and absolute cycles within dreams. First is defragmentation, like your computer your mind shuts most primary thoughts off during rest so that it can seperate and store the memories of the days events. It is important to note that the "dreamers mind" is not bound by the laws of order or rationality. While it is storing things, it may store work memories simultaneusly with friend memories, which would likely result in the dreamer dreaming of a friend working with them who has never worked with them before. The second cycle I noted is the whole dejavu thing. While the dreamers central thought motors are idling, and most of his mental resources are bound into the defragmentation of the days events, somehow, the mind becomes incredibly sensitive to the "wrap of life" allowing itself to look ahead and prepare for tomorows thoughts. "wrap of life" defined. Some believe that the lives and destinies of men are prewritten. Some believe in freewill. I believe in a god that is all knowing, which means he can grant free will and still know what you will choose. Following this thought, I have come to believe that our lives are like giant film reels made up of billions of frames. Because gods, like the dreamers mind are not bound by laws of order or rationality, somehow each wrap of the dreamers film underlaps a future moment of the dreamers life. In dreams, the veil between the wrap of life behind us, and the wrap of life before us becomes faulty, thus we often dream of future or past events quite vividly. On a personal note rev, fear, in a dream, is self induced. I believe you are likely quarreling with a decision you have made recently. I find nightmares generally happen when people are generally stressed over a personal choice and fear they have chosen rashly.

I don't often remember dreams or even have nightmares but about seven years ago at college I was asleep at my girlfriend's place and I woke quickly to the sound of someone beating on the front door. Just as I stumbled out of bed the front door burst open and I got down on all fours to peek out of the bedroom door and over the second floor balcony to see a small, leprechaun like figure with bright red hair and glowing eyes come running through the front and up the stairs. His speed was amazing. I hurriedly grabbed the bedroom door and tried to close it but he was there before I could and it became quite a struggle. I started to get the upper hand but he snaked an arm through and these grubby little fingers reached out and grabbed my throat. Then I woke up. And I heard a knocking at the front door. corpsestomp
The only nighmare I've ever had was recurring when I was younger. I'm sitting in the entranceway to my house, getting galoshes on, when Splinter(yes, from TMNT) is suddenly there. Then, his fingernails start growing, then mine do, and both our fingernails keep growing until they're hitting the ceiling, and I wake up. I always woke up scared, but I never understood what actually scared me...
