Thanks to the Players

I know that you all thank us for the time and work that we put into making progress for the MUD, but I wanted to take a moment and thank all of you, the players.

Nothing is more fulfilling for us as staffmembers then seeing the who list fill up and watching players enjoy the playing environment, company of their peers, and the fruits of our own, and your own work.

Also, I would especially like to take a moment and thank the occasional player who goes to the next level and donates to help support the server hosting and other costs associated with the continued running of the game. While we are lucky to have people on staff who are willing to support the bulk of the costs, it is much appreciated.

So thank you to all the players. I hope those of you that don't have a current character will get in game and join the party. We have some exciting times ahead of us.

Critical opinion has never been put down, or at least, unless it's a blatant out flame that is intended to do no good for the mud. ;)

As for carebear threads.. I like them far more than the 'at eachother's throats' threads. They tend to be a helluva lot more productive.

Mmm.

Well, I will say that while the departure of a conservative and traditional IMP does put FL closer to where it would need to be in order to combat Pbase burnout and overall stagnancy, I do feel that a great deal of the input the best and brightest FL Generation, (i.e those that got good enough collectively that there were more competitive PK players than ever before due to the overall player knowledge skyrocketing) was essentially wasted or ignored for one reason or another.

I don't know that the same level of passion exists, honestly, to have the amount of optimism that our esteemed associate Zhokril seems to exude. By and large I think that most of the recent changes I have been reading about have been positive, however by the same token they are also so basic that they seem like they should have been dealt with 3-4 months after FL went public, at most 2-3 years in. And it is that resistance to altering the special sauce of FL which has been at the core of a lot of problems, ultimately alienating a vast majority of the Pbase, and pretty much degenerating things into a PK Frenzy where if you see someone who you can attack log on you will go hunt them if your RP permits (sometimes stretching it if you are neutral) just because you never know when someone you'll actually be able to fight will log on again.

Take Ogre Rangers, for instance. Or Blademasters as a whole (Magic Resistant ones especially). Insanely out of wack with the rest of the game. Medium Sized melee? Forget about it. Healers in cabal warfare playing flag tag until you want to claw your eyes out? Heh.

Until there is a willingness to explore fundamental problems/quirks/stuff we all hate that has plagued FL from the start but only REALLY got bad once everyone knew everything, it's out with the old boss, in with the new boss.

If you have legitimate suggestions that you would like considered, post them on the prayer forum and we will give them due care. If this is simply the rambling of a disgruntled, self-proclaimed "retired" player, please refer to the first line of jibber's post. Regardless, you are far off topic as far as this thread is concerned. Please re-locate to a correct venue if you wish to continue further.

I would, though, encourage you to try out a character in game, if you have not recently.

You all know me' date=' some of you like me. Some of you don't. Either way, that's fine. I've officially retired, and that's fine too.[/quote']

I always think it's a fine balance between maintaining a level of conservatism that keeps things they way people love and remember it (i.e 1.0 -2.0, the fact is this is the highest peak in pbase size, maybe or maybe this doesn't reflect how satisfied people were with the game, but it definitely represents a "golden age" for some) and being progressive enough to please others. The question is did it stagnate because a conservative Imp was at the reins, or did it stagnate because the playerbase became less conservative, as perhaps (and I only said perhaps), represented in your view? Progress isn't always the answer. Some people just love a good thing :D I just think it's harsh to think the MUD was "held back", and shift all the accountability away from the playerbase. I love you all, Staff mostly, and thank you Zhokril for your kind words! And I agree Jibber, carebear threads are good, constant and unnecessary criticism is bad. :D
