Just got a cool idea. Havent worked it that much. But what if thieves could have a mimic trap?
It would place a random "rare" on the ground, higher level when higher prof. If someone picks it up, the mimic attacks.
If a non-pk range guy tries to pick it up, he could just be zapped by it. Or it could dissapear. Or they cant see it.
Response?
tiiiigghht (that means tight, only said slow)
its cool and sounds both balanced and doable.
Do the thieves get a utiity belt with randon mimics to keep for the traps?
It sounds like a cool idea, but maybe we should make the thief use a counterfeit item as the bait and place the trap onto it while its on the ground. After all, you can place traps on items.
I like the combination with counterfeit, it would increase use of an (I think) under-utilized skill.
You can place SOME traps on items. Not all. But I don't really see the point to this at the moment. For one, I don't really know what your 'mimic' is supposed to really do. Is it going to become the character themselves and act as a mob that fights the person for a few rounds with all their skills/spells/songs without lag? What trap will it replace if any? What category of traps will it be placed under? I could see it possibly replacing the Devil's Wheel trap as a 50 trap, which might make that trap a little more popular, but I'm not too sure Thieves really need to be given anything else to help them PK more. They already are capable of PKing with ease, although in boring ways, at least easier than most classes.
Plus, there are already traps that when triggered make mobs come in and attack. All that would have to be done is make that trap into a theif trap.
Without too much info I'm hoping, that is already a thief trap.
...just to make them even more annoying.
Goomf already figured that out.
I would see it maybe as being like a slith's shed. That way the thief, who would be in hiding or something, could come in and get the jump, start circle stabbing ro something, instead of the usual blackjack.
I have a question. How many of you people who are in support of this idea have had a lvl 50 thief since advanced traps were introduced?
And yes, Goomf was annoying. From the first time I saw him as Egui to the last time he blackjacked me as Gubeda and I yelled out I hated him.
I still have a hard time restraining myself from sending that as a global echo when I get a bunch of prays for description checks.

like counterfeit and then one of the firsts traps you can set? BOOM!
Goomf already figured that out.
I detest that comment. Goomf had some high quality and nearly impeccable roleplaying that added greatly to the community.
Oh, and I think it would be awesome if you program and gnome thief mob who goes around stealing gold coins and yelling 'GOOOOMMMMMFFFF!!!'

Assign some of the low level gimp imms the task of desc checks.
Or make heros and let them approve descs.
