Elzin Orr

Hey,

I can't actually delete, because it seems I was on some kind of Imm suicide watch. But I left the cabal and sacrificed all my gear, so for all intents and purposes, Elzin is gone.

First of all I have a few apologies, mainly to Imms.

Brehan: Sorry for taking the coward's way out. I know you tried hard to keep me encouraged by chatting with me both IC and OOC. It was very much appreciated. But at the end of the day, I couldn't see myself going anywhere or getting any better.

Zhokril: Thanks for helping me with my malforms all those times when I succumbed to bugs or illegal behaviour. You were a really good sport about that, sorry it was all for nothing in the end.

Syndicate: I know you guys are overworked and understaffed right now. Sorry for being a total bust on the collections, and for ultimately leaving you with one less body.

When I started this character, I had all sorts of great ideas about what I could do and how I could PK. As is evident from this post, pretty much none of them worked.

At first I thought I'd try to be sort of a melee shaman. Focusing mainly on getting really high -ac and playing defensively until I could spell someone up and then hopefully finish them off. There were three major problems with this approach.

1) I was eating dismembers/massacres through sanc, and getting lagged badly even with -530ac.

2) This approach really makes you totally useless against caster/communers.

3) Because DK mals are not cast at the same level as shaman mals, your enemies really only need basic saves to hold off before they can beat you into a pulp. Oh, and you don't have protective shield or cure crit.

So, once the 'melee shaman' idea went the way of the dodo, I thought I'd try to beef my hit/dam up and play like a regular DK with better -ac. The main problem with this approach was that everyone at 50 was more decked, more survivable, and/or more melee capable than me. I could not get any kind of decent malforms going, and every time I did get one on the way, I'd either die somewhere far away and have it decay, or some person would sac it.

90% of the people I was fighting every day at 50 were the people I needed good malforms just to stay even with. They were not the kind of person I can could just feed bad malforms on.

Closing Thoughts:

Thanks to everyone who helped me out by getting me glimmering staffs. Drow DKs with no malforms cannot really kill the wight, and the frickin' ankh is made of mithril. It really was a pain.

I will never make a good DK because I feel too bad about scoring cheap kills on people. Even if I do it once in a while, I feel like a piece of crap for it, and I don't do it anywhere near as much as a DK needs to. I'm not saying DKs who have done well are cheap, but they have more balls than me. I am more of a 'fight back when attacked' kind of player.

Once again, sorry to Brehan and Zhokril. I hope you don't consider my quitting a failure by either of you to raise my spirits or fix my problems. If anything you kept me going way longer than I would have otherwise.

See you out there somewhere.

-N

A well played charecter if you ask me. Did not have as much interactions with you as I hoped, but you are a good player and you made a strange dark knight. Letting me go when I had no weapon..;) The other thing that happened was idiotic, but I explained to you the circumstances. All around well played. Hope your next is a monster, because Boris Elzin was good enough for a drow dkn.

Dk's are tough. Especially in our current environment of strong pk'ers with fewer players. I have a feeling you'd have a much easier time if you go demon dk next time. But Elzin gave me quite a run for my money a few times. That cleave sleep you got on me would've done me in if I didn't know where you summoned me to. Again I'd like to add that it was a very nice change as it brought more of the fear factor back to dk's.

Good char. Sad to see you go, although I can understand it. It's a bitch to level malforms these days.

Through my own experience I never noticed much difference between having -300 and -500 ac. And you shouldn't really have that much trouble with the wight, just bring in a crab (and release him just before you end the wight, so he doesn't get stuck there in case you receive the gatestone and have to get him again).

Oh but it's fun when the wight dispels the "charm person" spell on your crab, and you still have the spell timer on your dark knight - Now you're fighting a crab and wight! :D

But back to Elzin, I would have liked to see him get those malforms to level 10 to really see what a drow can do.

isnt their a mandate that prevents any and all pets from being brought into the arena?

No. You would just lose all your pets, since they will remain in the fighting room once you defeat the wight, or whatever.

And if you get charm person dispelled, as long as you remain in the fight (i.e. don't make the wight move), the crab will continue to fight the wight.

Epic fail.

No one learns from quitting. It gets hard to continue on sometimes, but only the patient and enduring will see the results of their labor.

Which is an extremely balanced game mechanic. I'm thinking of ways to only allow that item to be 'used' by the person who gets it stop what I like to refer to as 'necro nonsense.' ;)

Lytholm.

I do not agree with you, just as I do not agree with Anume.

Some classes rely heavily on their pets. Necromancer is the perfect example, but a ranger without pets on the other hand is nothing more than a gimped warrior (especially if he is a beastmaster).

Not allowing pets to be brought into the arena is restricting classes from using their skills effectively. How would you like it if it was made "illegal" for your warrior to use dirt in the arena?

Also, there is quite a big penalty for bringing pets inside, since they are stuck there after the mob is killed.

Which you can exploit to ensure your enemy cannot obtain the staff for themselves.

If I am an enemy to someone who left his pets inside the arena, I would prefer gaining other ways of sanctuary and fight the necromancer while he has no pets. Besides, who goes collecting glimmering staves when his enemy is around? The smart people usually get them when their enemies are off.
