Running fast, outrunning me.

I've never run nor chased with anything other than me inputting each and every direction manually. I'm decent at chasing, but only the very best keep up with me on the run. It's largely just familiarity with the lands, combined with some guesswork on where an opponent is likely to be running to/searching for you.

Running is easy enough. Chasing is a whole other matter. Running you just need to know the way, what connects to where, and have a plan as to where you are going. Chasing, well, I'm not the best. Need to know what connects to where and predict likely escape route. Use where often, but not too often (as it slows you down) but you need to use it enought to determine their direction of travel.

When I am chasing I usuallky make ALOT of typos. I'd really gain from using some macros and or/aliases. I don't like triggers, they'll likely get you onto trouble just as much as they help. Some people spend substantial time writing scripts and what have you to aid with all sorts of things (including pk). I moreso prefer to play in the raw. Because you need to be quick in PK though, often I make numerous typos. I probably couldn't find a single log where I didn't make some form of typo somewhere along the line.

Most scripting I'd done was my BMG script, which had a bar of icons that were green if the spell was active, and red if it was inactive. Not too bad as a bmg, to ensure you had all your protections up.

If you saw logs, you'd realise that I make alot of direction mistakes.... ALOT.

I don't have this place memorised anymore like I used to. Lots of areas have changed, many of them quite important connecting areas.

What I am good at though is predicting a targets path, and working out means to intercept.

My ping to the server I assure you is quite a bit higher then you yankee bastards too!

Chasing well is an art :) You need to know where your opponent is heading, and get there faster. If you chase a good runner, you usually have to guess a bit or just stick behind him until he reaches an area that he isn't that familiar with (but you are of course familiar with it :) ) or until he reaches a door he has to open (many classes have pass door or pets to open doors though). Don't have something that distracts you (like music), as you will need full focus to not misstep or lose your target.

Btw, I don't use macros or triggers. I type manually and I rarely get a misdirection.

I use a lot of macros and buttons...my left hand is on the keypad while chasing and my right is on the mouse for clicking (just like a shooter)

I found that my chasing skills vastly improved when I set up target and direction macros/aliases--when used with some highlights, you can keep right up on them (or behind them as the case may be :D).

One thing that I've noticed is that people will usually choose east when they have a 4 direction split-decision choice (i.e. they haven't selected a particular destination yet..or they don't know which way they fled (within reason, and this doesn't apply on the eastern part of the map)).

My intitution tells me that Kyzarius would usually choose west though (if his image of the world is 'upside down')

Certain players have the same patterns they do over and over again. For example, Deykari ALWAYS runs out the east gate of rheydin and then turns north to circle the walls. Mindflayer (if he has pass door---and maybe if he doesn't! Iraekiira and Kurvikhel anyone?) always beelines for the nearest lockable door. Some players love using the Eridani. A lot of players also like to run in one direction and then quickly recall (Deykari pops to mind again, along with HitandRun---actually west for both of them, basing it on Masokant, Virarc, Scholin, and whatever name Deykari's blm was). Using this knowledge, I've sometimes made it to their destinations before they even got there.

If I really don't want to fight someone, I will run only a little bit and recover my health and then teleport until I land in blood or something. If they come for me there, I just recall and wait there. When they come, I teleport back to blood (assuming my char can handle a few blood mobs!). I also tend to run to certain areas and circle around.

My point here is just pay attention and look for running patterns--I imagine almost everyone uses them.

The art of chasing revolves around learning and predicting where people are going to go. The art of running is all about confusing people about that.

Another thing I noticed is that if someone is running through an area and you intercept them...for example someone is running west through Val and you hit them at the central square...if they flee east, stay put! They'll still be running west usually! Have your west + attack typed in and do it if they flee west (expect west).

If you do that, you'll get them 3/5ths of the time (the two misses are if they flee north or south)

Haha, cel. Well analyzed.

This is very true. Unless the target is a warrior (who will know in which direction he flees). Also, if they are blind and flees north/south, they will likely begin by spamming a couple west (which means that you can follow quickly and engage while they get alas).
