brsingr
I havent tried to boot it up yet or even touched it honestly, but according to my mom the computer usually doesnt even turn on, like on a hardware level, no power, but occasionally turns on and loses power, cutting off while its running - if it just never turned on id be sure but the variable nature of the problem confuses me EDIT: it's a desktop - after my second laptop gets back from the shop, i hope to fix it - lol my room looks like startrek already but i am adding more **** as i fix my computers one by one
Mali
Maybe the heat sensor is broken or a fan is not turning on, causing the computer to shut itself off so it does not overheat.
brsingr
the way she describes it, it sounds like it shuts off pretty quickly, like theres no time to overheat EDIT: but the heat sensor sounds plausible
Croyvern
new power supply. 11 dollars online. The actual Power supply where the chord plugs in the CPU. The heat sensor is likely the trouble, but replace the whole thing. Its like five minutes work.

Mali
I had a computer that kept turning itself off to stop from overheating, even though it was never in danger of overheating. When it sensed the cooling unit was working, it shut everything down. All it needed was a firmware update. But the power supply may be the issue. Power supply or cooling unit. The-Nameless
Its a power supply. Once you install the new supply (which is incredibly easy) take all the RAM off the board itself, then power it on. If the board puts out any high pitch beeps, then you can confirm that the board itself, and cpu, are properly working as the unit is performing post properly.
