they should upgrade the con command to say something like
you do much more damage than him
< health vs health > he lacks so much health, you're suprised he doesnt fall over
< mana vs mana >there have been vegetables with more arcane power than him.
etc etc
because that isnt always trustworthy
and ive died because of it

It's not trustworthy because it compares level, not equipment/stats. Especially so against mobs.
Yes. Con only compares level. That's all it's based off of. The number of dice for the mobs hit/dam/man dice could be many levels above your own but still be assigned with the same level as you. shrugs Experience is also based off of the level of the mob so what it comes down to is how good can the builder balance the two. Usually put the right level, and lower the dice appropriately. But many builders just don't cause they're not very good.
Hrm. What I thought you were going to say is should compare PK ratio for PCs. This might be a good idea. Although I suppose it might have to be a separate command from the level comparison, since that's useful also. Maybe .
I think he knows what the consider command does guys, he's suggesting that it does the hp/mana/damage comparission.
I like the idea on mobs, but on pc's it could be a problem. I really like the idea on mobs though, because that would deffinatly help the newer players not die.
I was explaining the 'why'.
yeah, i agree with the on murder thing, sorry, i aint been on for a while
That looked like the con display of a mud I used to play...I hated that mud, because you couldnt advance without putting out money. People are poor nowadays.
Heh, maybe we should just show you their score sheet.
Seriously, part of pking is about juding your opponent..knowing their racial powers, mana, health, class abilities...
just out of curiosity, why kill a naked player? they are obviously naked, so you cant get anything from them, so why bother?
Bounty, cabal warfare, evil cleric, dk, they did not know you were naked.
If none of those apply, being an a.. or paying you back for something earlier.
Why kill a naked player? Simple answer:
RP.
Too many people run away and use that excuse, and never actually RP. Then again, their RP could just be: KILL ALL DROW, NO MATTER WHAT! and not actually have to talk with said victims. It's a thin line, and I'm sure you all agree.
No, even if they have that rp, there are reasons. There are psychologically reasons of their past which will have lead them to become the person they are. No one is simple a robot out killing without doing anything.
You can kill peopl without talking, that's fine, but you should make up for it by emoting rp. You emote in RL, why shouldn't your char? Want him to have a blank face? Emote it.
Anyone who just says, "My char klills elves" hasn't developped their rp.

With all due respect, you're wrong. Here's why: You are my defeated foe. I have no respect for you or your kind. I've hated your kind since childhood. I hated you enough to kill you. Why would I bother speaking to you?
Just because someone doesn't sit and chat with you, or emote at you as you're suggesting, doesn't mean they aren't RPing. People who've had nonviolent interactions with this character might think he's been RPed incredibly well as a vicious, brutal killer. RP doesn't mean talking, RP doesn't mean emoting. RP means being the character.
I have to agree with you. RP does mean being the character.
Unfortunately, the silent killer type rp has been overused and is frankly not appropriate for a rp intensive mud. RP, in almost all applicable cases, implies creativity and uniqueness.
On the other hand, the example you gave is appropriate, if that character rps with others besides elves. For example, if he goes back to a shrine of discord or whatnot and does a bunch of emotes or prays some text that is appropriate for the character.
I know that some people would say that RP is interaction between characters. While I do agree with those people, that is not ONLY what RP is.
Overused? Yes. Original? No. Going to get you anything special? Not unless you're doing something new with it.
Not saying the silent killer RP is the best RP for the game, nor am I saying that it's often well done. I just don't like it when people accuse someone of having no RP just because they didn't stop and chat with THEM.
Any goon saying the words "My character..." while in character, makes Hulk want to smash.
Just because someone doesn't sit and chat with you, or emote at you as you're suggesting, doesn't mean they aren't RPing.
Emote hate, emote the look in his eye as he murders you. Emote the quickness with which he moves, the way he walks, the way his arms glide through the air as he deals another devestating blow. Emote the look of satisfaction in his eye as he runs his sword through your gut.
Silent Killers and Silent Pkers are not the same thing.
You can have a silent char and still have a good RP, its called emoting.
Problem is, people think Rping means talking, while emoting is the strongest form of Rp.
Emote whenever possible, Rp isn't something you should decide to take time out of your day to do, its something you always do, and emotes makes it much much better.
