f0xx
Mya logic overwhelming. Just to give you an example Mya. You are holding a cup of coffee. Lets pretend this cup of coffee = sanctuary. I come close to you and slap (haymaker) you in the face. Won't you drop your cup of coffee, no matter how smart you are?
Grim_Reefer
I get what shes saying though. It takes less mind power for an illithid to keep a spell up than it would for say a human. The inherent intelligence of the illithid makes his concentration much stronger. Haymaker works because the blow jars the caster/communer's concentration and he mind-drops the spell. The-Nameless
BINGO!!! Smarter = less likely to lose spells. Again, by this logic, i should be able to pummel Sir Isaac Newton while he is drafting his thesis on gravity.. Wrong. If you get your bell rung, hit on the button, dazed, wobbled, limp legged, stiff kneed, white outed, your not gonna keep thinking about a complex spell. That is what haymaker is, a BIG punch, it is not a stiff jab to the nose, it is a huge, cross body hook to the jaw, if it hits the right spot, not just hits, you SHOULD drop your spells Your brain just got reset, like that moment between waking up, and being awake, when you utter jibberish that makes no sense at all. Do not think that it should work every time it lands, but the skill has a built in failure rate. I do not think zerk bane needs a boost to the strongest race that can choose the class, espescially since one blind vs a necro is usually death for a zerk. The-Nameless
Yeah, it doesn't look like he has a chin. No bones may mean easy to squish...but hard to make a concussion I think! Concussion = bruised brain caused by impact from your skull, your skull absorbs ALOT of the impact (think car wreck) but the violent transfer of energy causes the brain to jar around. So without a skull, your brain gets hit MUCH harder. So in a sense your right, you do not get a concussion, there is no skull to bruise the brain, instead you get violent hemhorraging and severe brain damage. So basically squids can have all the resist they want to haymaker, but the moment it lands they all become fire giants. What is a concussion? A concussion is a brain injury that is caused by a sudden blow to the head or to the body. The blow shakes the brain inside the skull, which temporarily prevents the brain from working normally. f0xx
your not gonna keep thinking about a complex spell. Not unless you know that if you don't do it you will die. Still doesn't mean squids should have some sort of protection against haymaker, gameplay should always be on top of reality, but it does make sense. A creature's mind, such as the illithid's, will function even when his body will not be able to.
The-Nameless
Not unless you know that if you don't do it you will die. You have obviously never had a concussion. When you get one, you are not thinking at all. your brain is reseting, most people with a concussion stop breathing momentarily. You have no thought process in the moments after, thats why most people who get knocked out with a concussion get hit several times. one ringer, and 2 more before they can fall because their brain cannot tell them to sit down already. Basically by hitting someone like that, your removing their brains ability to process information. So extending that logic if you cannot think, you cannot maintain focus. If you can cause blunt damage to the organ, or organs, that organize, direct, and otherwise control your body you can get "concussion"

jibber
After all this talk about Berserkers being UNDERPOWERED, why is it that some people think they should be gimped further by GIMPING one of their primary skills? Lameee. I think this is all about balance, people, not how it should work in the real world.
Cephirus
Regardless of any human conditions which may indicate a concussion, we are speaking of a mythical creature here. For all we know, its brain could have a protective shield around it to prevent it from banging against the flesh/bone/whatever is on the inside. What is most important here is whether it is balanced. I do not think illithids should have a resistance to haymaker. They are a very strong race whose base abilities complement their class selection very well. If berzerkers could drop all of your skills/spells with a single haymaker, I would argue the opposite, actually, probably just argue to tone it, but I think the point is made. Since such creature does not exist we can only speculate about their physical feature (and please I'll shoot the next one who claims they don't have bones). And once again, from a gameplay point of view, illithids and no race as a whole should have haymaker resistance. As jibber said, berserkers need nothing taken away from them... mya
1 - Illithiads =/= Humans 2 - The race being gimped are Illithiad. They had a bonus/perk, and now they have not. You can argue all you want about concussions and Isac Newton. The Illithiad bonus makes RP sense. I see little BALANCE reason for the removal, as Illithiads have a Vulnerability that can be exploited by many Zerks. And they can already open with Haymaker. jibber
Maybe you've never played a Berserker, mya. Have you ever fought a well-played illithid necromancer with one? Have you even played an illithid necromancer? I've played both, and have done VERY well with both. Zhokril thought it necessary to make the change. I agree completely with him. And most of the rest of the playerbase does as well (since I'm sure we've all played our share of both classes and race/class.) And if you'd be so kind, what's that vulnerability? Light? What, a power staff? The lance of Imbalance? I'm intrigued at what you think Illithid's vulnerability is to any class, other than the complete lack of 'light damage based' weapons that are worth a crap (excluding the very rare one in Winter.) Nekky
Not to mention 95% of illithids will be necromancers, and they have protective shield which is hard enough to penetrate with a haymaker most of the time. Mya clearly has no functional idea of what playing a berzerker is like.
