Training at Rank 15

I know I have said this before and know many of you are tired of hearing it, but I am going to say it again.

The change to not allowing people to train until rank 15 was baaad one.

If people can't train until rank 15, people should not be allowed to PK until rank 15, becuase it creates a very large incentive for people at rank 15, expecially with powerful classes, to pk their lowbie mates. If you don't allow people to train up until rank 15, then people at say...rank 14, are screwed if they get into combat with someone at 15 who (like many of us) train at the soonest possible time.

My actual suggestion?

Move newbiehood out to rank 15

Move the pk protection out to rank 15

That way, people have until the same rank to get EVERYTHING ready.

They know at rank 15, they have to get ready to pk, get ready to train and have to write a desc before taking on any of those challenges, which will give them time to hang around on the newbie channel and ask questions and learn things.

When do players spend the MOST time just sitting around?

When writing a desc!

When is a good time to ask questions?

When you are just sitting around!

Is it good to be ready for pk during this time of sitting around, asking questions and writing a desc?

No!

Does it make any sense for players to have a pk advantage because they can train and you can't, while you still have to worry about writing a desc and maybe even learn the ropes?

No!

My game doesn't start until 50 anyway and I happen to agree with this idea.

Maybe you should just watch your back more closely, I just trained a character at 15 and mastered all but one of my weapons, and all defenses at that level, and I wasn't attacked once. To me there is no differance between level 10, and level 15 other than the fact that at 15 you can be looted. And I don't see the point in being able to train everything when you cannot be PK'd. Training is already so easy, why need to make it easier? If you want to train at that level, make an Adventurer.

I sort of have mixed feelings about this. But I lean towards the side of keeping it the way it is. Mainly because I dont think people should have the freedom to train without being touched. This would discourafe people from doing illegal things whereby they are not there to actually watch their character train. Also, some training can be done better against other players. I would like to see the newbie channel extended to rank 15, but I think the pk range being rank 15 or 30K exp, whichever comes last , should stay. Besides, at that rank if you are training spells, or things you dont need one or many mobiles to work on, your guildhouse is MORE than safe. The only way you are gonna die is if you sit at the scarecrows for 16 hours straight while jumping in and out of your FL window. If you are really paranoid, go somewhere far off where no lowbie would ever bother going, do you really think they would spend hours exploring the lands to loot for a pk at that rank? They wouldnt even have the moves to do so.

Just my 2 pennies.

First, let's be clear. You CAN train before rank 15, but only up to a certain percentage (80 or 85%, I forget which).

The reason for not allowing training past a certain percentage was EXACTLY because you aren't supposed to get a "free PK pass" to train. Also, at the low of a rank (between 10 and 15) you are pretty safe inside your guild for things like desc writing and asking questions. Additionally, there is nothing stopping you from writing you desc pre-10.

While newbie chat is something you may see lasting longer in the future, I don't think you'll be seeing any changes as you describe them to PK range. FL is supposed to dangerous.

Adventurers will allow you to do all this. All the way to 30. They areally are quite overpowered.

Who trains these days anyway? Didn't Charim teach us anything? Bwahaha.

No, Raargant, the PK range will not be moved to rank 80...

Adventurers will allow you to do all this. All the way to 30. They areally are quite overpowered.

Actually, I think it all balances out. First of all you need to spend more hours on the character when you rerank, and I believe the highest roll for an adventurer doesn't go as high as it would do for other classes of the same race.

I wasn't implying to give people a free chance to train, because you cannot currently train (past 80% anyway) until rank 15. I was, however, suggesting we make it so that the point at which you can pk align with the point at which you can train, and I will reiterate my point for that in particular.

The way the system currently is, it gives a very large advantage to people at rank 15-20 over people at rank 10-15, who may find themselves in combat, because only one of the parties has been given the oppurtunity to train.

This way, people are able to train past 80% at the same time they are able to begin pking. At the same time they leave newbiehood and have to write a desc.

At that rank, I think the difference between 80% and 100% is rather minimal, especially with the skills they have available to them. If it is that big a concern, suggest the adventurer class to them. I see newbie channel changing a good idea, but not much else.

I was about to suggest setting it back to the way it was, only reduce the loot shield to 10 instead. The more I thought on it though, the less condusive to newbies that would be than the way it is now. Why set one rank for everything? Pk, loot, train past 80 at 10th? 15th? Yup. That's like setting a 5 year old in the drivers seat. Gradual progression is much better.

PK at 10. Get you into the feel of danger early.

Loot shield to 15. Helps the NEWBIES keep armor and equipment while running around in a PK environment. Nothing like a naked newbie getting their rump handed to them by the forest outlaws for those gauntlets, say. Or the Dark Raiders on the way to Kagragashanistan. I've been around the block a few times. I know what to do and what not to do. I know where to look for prelim. eq to get better eq. Look at it from their perspective, though. Remember when you first logged onto a MUD, or started here on FL. They'd have things handed to them. Like their asses. Possibly repeatedly. Back in the day, I saw a squirrel. I was in Val Miran. I didn't realize that the squirrel repoped in the Forest of Banor.

You would need ALOT of luck.

Newbie Magick says "Alot of luck, psha! It's just a squirrel! This will be EASY!"

ki squ

You try to kill a squirrel.

A Squirrel hands you your ***!

You are DEAD!!

You blink.

Newbie Magick says "...Or not."

And you want them to do this naked due to a full loot?

Recently modified 80% to 15. Like Krouni stated. There's little to no difference with the few skills you have. Master weapons? Can do that while you rank. Dirt Kick? Ditto. In fact, most, if not all 1-10 skills will be mastered through ranking. With the obvious exception: Power Ranking.

But alas, we skip over the reason it was changed to 15 to begin with! All those people out there hitting 10th and training all their available skills to 100% while under the protection of the loot shield. Good move, this was. Instead of the aforementioned loss of loot shield at 10.

Losing the loot shield and being able to advance past 80% puts everyone equal anyway. Also lets the newbies into the lessons of Full Loots while still standing a fair(er) chance for survival in re-equiping. 80% or not.

And why are you writing a description logged? I either write the description before or durring rolling. If the later, and I come across that sweet roll, I'll complete the char, then log off til the desc is done. This way I maximize that 'pray every 10 min' suggestion until I'm approved. If fate is kind to me, I've got an approved desc at 1 and don't have to worry about stopping my ranking because it's not done. Power rank to 20ish. Train def's. Power rank to 30. Train more def's and some other odds or ends. Power rank to 41/42. Train as much as I have patience for. Nail 50. Now you have all the time in the world to train. To 100%, if you wish.

Hmmm. Got off subject a touch.

Point, in short:

This is a dangerous land. PK @ 10.

We're not complete bastards, though. Loot shield pre-15.

But this is still a dangerous land. Master skills post 15, with the ability to lose your stuff. Keep an eye out.

... That's long enough. I'll stop now.

Well thought and worded post.

Magick, that was a +75 hit/dam post.

Exactly how I would have explained it.

RE Magick:

Something similar happened to me on my first char, except it was on a deer in the Elf Valley. I newbie chatted, "What the heck, I just got destroyed by a deer."

Needless to say, there was much laughing.

I remember my very first char died to one of those snails or lizards in the old arena, I was like "What the ****!?" It was a fire giant zerker, and needless to say, I sucked the big one at that point.

By the way, well put in your post, Magick, I agree 110%.

Looting before level 15? Is there really anything worth looting at that rank? I really dont think it matters where you put the loot shield (10 or 15). However I think that when you can do one you should be able to do it all. If you can be killed you should be able to be looted. And if you are going to be killing you need a description. Hmm anything I missed? Oh yea, adventurers are a bit over used dont you think? Level 15 with a full set of tainted armor, and some rather sweet weapons, and lets not forget what happens when said adventurer falls in with an invoker. Perhaps adventurers should be governed by ALL restrictions (training especially) of people who are immune to pk. I mean even hunger and thirst wont kill them!

Omg

Same here, my first char a minotaur zerk, got ravaged by a rat. I was so mad. Then I was walking around and walked into Valcor who one hit killed me. And I was like wtf how do you play this game if these things just come out of nowhere and kill you. Then some IMM helped me a bit to get my things and I kept dying and dying and dying. Then there was this 50 illithid necro who would always help me out and give me mahntor axes and crap. I found my way through the next couple weeks and wound up PKing Zaewyn with a bard. I retired that day and haven't ever played again. honest.
