f0xx
I've been having some serios stability problems with firefox for some time and I am really starting to hate the thing. I currently have: IE Opera FF all are latest versions ofc. I am really considering switching FF with either of the two.... nowadays even IE seems better than FF. The-Nameless
Chrome has so many errors in relation to suddenly chewing on 30-70% of your processor if you use tabs. I use good ol firefox portable, can't get a virus on a portable app. Yet.

f0xx
So what is the difference between portable apps and installable ones?
The-Nameless
installable ones have set paths and routines on your system that a virus will look for and install itself in. Using a portable app is better because the files used for it are not stored in the places viruses look. That and I can take my favorites, and good cookies anywhere. The-Nameless
You have to carry a flash drive around with you?
KRins
So...you have to load FF portable off your flash drive every time you want to get at your email or just to bring your cookies and favorites with you to a different computer?
f0xx
KRins, from what I understand, he is carrying his browser on his flashdrive. Basicly from my knowledge portable versions do not need to be installed to run. A lot of normal apps can be run by simply copy/pasting their files but a lot will be unstable and you won't be able to use most/some of their functions. So, he has his browser on his flashdrive, he just pulgs the drive and starts surfing throung the browser on his flashdrive. Correct?
The-Nameless
I started using it as a PC tech. You get a computer with browser related viruses, you need a safe way to go get on the web. I realized that if I ONLY use a portable app for web browsing, I will eliminate 90% of the easy to get viruses that people run into (like the one they guy just hit google with). The app is fully functional, and rests on a flash drive. I do it out of security, as well as I can also safely use the remember me tab since all temp files are stored on the drive with the app. So no need to worry about loggers. L-A
Downside? I'd guess resource consumpsion - processor cycles and RAM. If you're running everything from USB you lose the speed advantage you'd gain from a 'normal' HDD. Browsers I have loaded: IE 6.0 (yeah, I know....shut up). Opera FF I use Opera and FF depending on the situation. Some webpages react better to one or the other. I wouldn't touch Chrome with a 10 ft pole either - as someone said, there are issues with it eating resources. Also, I've heard very bad thing about the data mining Google are using it for....
