Sandbox
In addition to the above listed races, The Forsaken Lands also gives you the opportunity to apply to have a custom race, as determined by the limit of your own imagination. To pursue this option, start out as a race that is reasonably close to the one you have in mind, write your description as if you were already the custom race, and then send an "application for " to immortal. Being creative in your application will make it more likely to be approved. notice there is no reference to Gary Gygax in red.

This was never a question of what is allowed in FL. f0xx made a statement that driders are a curse. FL has 0 ecology on driders, and if they did, I started it since I had one of the first drider restrings that I can think of. I am merely updating that information with the most current information Sandbox. On a side note 3-4 years ago I played a Drider restring. I rped as a hated, rejected failure of Xymerria, cursed by Lloth. Why? At the time that was the most current info on Driders. They USED TO BE curses. Just like Anume USED TO BE Eshaine. Anume no longer governs the forests, but take someone who has not heard about fl in 6(?) years and they might very well say Eshaine, or even Rotarx. Or any host of other imms. Right now it is Gradrel, so if someone worships nature, they need to know the current information regarding that religion.
Sandbox
wasn't really an attack against you so much as it is an attack against a mentality. So long as a player has a set of rules the race should be governed by and a good enough history why not let them play it assuming it fits into our world? The-Nameless
I have no trouble with that. There are many examples of RP trumping ecology. I am not an imm, and cannot judge anyone on restrings. I have done so many its not funny.
Implementor Anume Posted March 14, 2010 Implementor Report Share Posted March 14, 2010 Agree that usually being made a drider is a punishment by Lloth (mostly to males). I'd stick with Salvatore and D&D here.

Reccum
I'm sure if the Drider was not going for demon or vampire then they would have chosen Drow as their race, not Human. Sometimes game mechanics will trump what people think makes sense. If I want to be restrung as snakes on a plane, should I choose slith or avian? The-Nameless
War of the Spider Queen Each novel in the series is written by a different author with Salvatore overseeing the development of the overall project.[12] Dissolution (written by Richard Lee Byers) (2002) (1372DR) Insurrection (written by Thomas M. Reid) (2002) (1372DR) Condemnation (written by Richard Baker) (2003) (1372DR) Extinction (written by Lisa Smedman) (2004) (1372DR) Annihilation (written by Philip Athans) (2004) (1372DR) Resurrection (written by Paul S. Kemp) (2005) (1372DR) The last novel of the series predates the change to Drider ecology by 3 years. Making using it as current factual evidence impossible, as it is now outdated. Like pinto. Croyvern
Well, if you are the drider, you may feel cursed, but I am sure the female clerics will remind you of your most honored blessing. Its a matter of perspective I supose.
Demiterracotta
Nameless. This game pre-dates drider ecology by a long ways..... Eshaine is the DM, don't argue with your DM, bad things like failed saves happen that way. Or the Tarasque shows up and eats your continent for funzies. f0xx
And this game does NOT pre-date driders. Driders came to be in the mid 70's. Yep, and the 70's consider the transformation to drider as a curse by Lolth Who cares that some writer decides to change his mind 30 years later
Twinblades713
So the two sides for the pronunciation... Lloth Lolth. I was always partial to Lolth, but I think I've heard it spoken Lloth more often. D: You could probably even quote me somewhere saying Lloth, just because it's so much more popular I usually say that anyway.

Serinkane
Ive read both views on the driders and decided to tweak it to my own little twist. BTW The Salvatore series was excellent reading material if you have dived into it yet.

Imoutgoodbye
Drider = Cursed. An absolution of intelligence and creates blind devotion to Lloth by causing chaos in one of its purer forms. If you would, consider it an abomination that is half blessing/half curse. The person transformed would see it as a curse if they could, it is a punishment, and you are now the lowest of Lloth's children, but a child of Lloth none the less. In the War of the Spider Queen, there is a god/demi-god that is a champion of Lloth that is a Drider. 4th Edition D&D wiped out quite a large portion of the Faerunian pantheon. However, Lloth herself predates Faerun, her first existance being in Greyhawk where the Lolth spelling comes from. So, believe what you want, Eshaine is by far the closest to the truth. EDIT: I make reference to Faerun because that is the portion of the gaming world that has become prevalent to the writing of what was TSR and is now Wizards of the Coast. The Drider God/Demi-God given brief reference in the books no longer exists and the writings of the novels revolve around the game play mechanics, albeit somewhat loosely at times.
