do giants have gimped defenses?

"However, much as other giants, their raw strength makes them very clumsy when it comes to avoiding attacks."

does this mean giants have a lower chance to dodge/parry/block?

i've heard people say more ac = better chance to dodge/parry etc. which should actually be the exact opposite... the thicker your armor the harder it is to move your appendages, and if anything a stronger race would in reality move easier in heavier armor. being strong doesn't make you clumsy... being uncoordinated does.

As far as I know dodge is affected mosy by dex.

Parry is effected most by your proficiency in your weapon and the weapon you are trying to parry (and the O and D ratings of said weapons)

Weaponblock or Twohanded is most effected by strength.

This is strictly my opinion, to not pull a Mya, I won't tell you any of this is a hard fact.

I believe size also has a role to play in dodge. Though I am not 100% sure.

see I dunno. I think a giantplayed like a typical war would get hit more. But I am starting to map out the effects of synergies (skills above 100) effective other things. For example as Thrug I noticed that with a regular flail i was 109% efective, with a fire flail I was 119, with a two handed fire flail i was 120%. I am fairly confident that a combo of high proficiency, with a two handed weapon, is going to increase your defense. If anyone wishes i could supply a few pks logs to validate this.

I believe he is partially correct. For a halfling dodges better than a human, BUT, its also dex based, so an elf dodges better than a gnome. I think of it like pitching stones, I could hit a giant with my eyes closed, large target as in the the example above, probably wouldn't hit a halfling with both eyes open like trying to peg a humming bird. This is why in the HELP qrace file it states "Your desired race needs to be somewhat compatible with your original (ie, no elves applying to be giants, or vice versa.) This is not a tool to bypass racial vulnerabilities, etc. Your desired race must also be within mortal bounds, and not 'immortal' races, such as angels, devils or the like." So you can not restring a giant who dodges like a halfling, of an elf with ungodly strength.

Well I think all the opinions stated so far are partially correct. Why partially? Because it makes perfect sense (excluding SB's asumption :P ). Unless an immortal come here and says exactly what and how affects each defence, we can only guess.

I have noticed that higher AC increases my defences.

Also, giving examples with real life is stupid since gameplay and balance should always be more important realism

You hit hard = you get hit more.

You hit like a girl = you defend like... whatever defends well.

Ofcourse, with some classes/combos this can easily be overcome

Well, their low dex makes them get hit more.

Dig if you will this picture :

An elephant trying to dodge someone swinging a sword.

Now even if that elephants dodge and parry are max'ed, I would reckon that he might have more difficulty than a hummingbird or cat.

now put that same elephant in a full suit of platemail and swing at him, then put that cat or hummingbird in the same suit of platemail and see which creatures ability to dodge was affected the most o.0 lol.

I definitely get it from a balance prospective just trying to picture a halfing in 300 lbs of steel out maneuvering a fire giant in 300 lbs of steel makes my brain hurt.

I didnt think having good -ac actually helped your defences. I was always under the impression that it increased the percentage of times an attack, or a physical skill (slam, bash, haymaker, etc) will miss you.

If you think of misses as a damage type that has been reduced to zero, perhaps by big hulking plates of armor, maybe it makes a bit more sense how having a huge -ac helps your defences.

It's been proven by Faye that huge amounts of AC make you almost invincible by ANY melee character. I still wish I had an invoker to call lightning on his arse -- that would have been beautiful to see.

My demon, Zenophobynt, MISSED EVERYTHING against him. I didn't hit him once. I missed all my dirt kicks. All my melee missed. All my bodyslams, haymakers, what have you. Plus coupled with ultimate dodge from the werebeast form..

Yeah. -1100 to -1300 ac AT LEAST. That's why Crusaders can't do stuff for other chars anymore -- because that's how he achieved it. AC plays a huge part in misses.

The phrase you are looking for is knowingly cheated. Considering what happened, TBH, I doubt the person behind that scheme actually asked about it. No, they just went ahead and abused it - I fail to believe that they didn't realise something might be wrong.

As usual, if it seems too good to be true you can always go to the prayer forum.

Before anyone gets upset or says I would do the same: Years ago I discoverd a way to get infintie fly and sanctuary on a character of mine (the key was cancelation and being in Savant....). I did in fact make the affects go to 100 hours (lvl 50 spells). I forwarded this information to the Imm's at the time and it was fixed very quickly. In the meantime I let the affects run down and didn't reset them. So lets all not pretend we don't know what is right and wrong. Those of us with experience know - some just want to abuse it more than others.

We've discussed this before, the sole fact that Faye stopped playing after the change speaks enough for itself.

Now lets get back on topic.

Agreed. I know for a fact that logs were sent to the Immortals containing the construction of the dreaded armors you all speak of. Two notes before we move on. One, most of Faye's augmented armor was not Metal jibb. Two, when having his armors augmented Faye had contact with the immortals and directed the crusader not to make changes that Faye knew the Immortals would not allow. Again, logs were sent that capture every bit of this. SO, lets not bash Faye, he only followed a path opened to him. And if he had not done what he did the needed changes would never have been made.

You can still maintain infinite Fly with a Mistic Cleric in Savant. :P

If you bother to.

I used to walk around with 70h sanctuary, just for kicks.

"ALL races dodge the SAME!!! " Mya

Giants if anything are benefited in defenses due to their incredible high STR.

AC is a good way to defend if you are a High DEX race.

i'm starting to learn more and more every day why i cant compete with these vets. Don't worry though every time i find one of these exploits i've been putting them in prayer. It saddens me that people have been relying on crap like this for so long to give them an edge over the average player.

Not sure how I was beating on Faye. Honestly, none of that was flaming, and a lot of you are very touchy on the subject and shouldn't be.

Geez.

people know when their doing something that shouldn't be allowed, when they report it...we should support them; when they abuse it... we should scrutinize them. It's kinda like how companies take life insurance policies on employees in the hopes that they die. Is it legal... barely but yes, is it unethical and exploitative? absolutely. Should people fight things like this? absolutely.
