ullquiora
We have had ONE solid coder here in the past 4-5 years. Although the current issue with bugs due to the change with rares is annoying... it is just that. Annoying but livable for a short period of time. What was intolerable was going 4-5 years without a solid coder as an implementor. What was inexcusable was going 4-5 years without regular changes and updates. I would strongly urge you to carry on griping and complaining only if you wish to alienate said Coder further. He has already expressed frustration by the criticism without contribution and that it is being worked on. It has been expressed that posting on the prayer forum was more acceptable. Why not push him a little further and see if we can give a better perspective on our complete lack of appreciation? I know it sucks that you just lost a piece of adeptus or a ring of accuracy. It must have taken you a few hours to get it. Clearly, it took the implementors only about ten to fifteen minutes to write and attempt to test this new code, right? WRONG. I wouldn't be shocked to hear the man hours of the update and current bugfixes going on to number between 30 and 40+. Let it be said that I am the first person to jump down someones throat if I think that they ignorantly screwed up, but that is not that case. It would be impossible to test these changes to the extent of seeing these bugs on the test server. There are not enough people there, and not enough strain on the system. Our main gripe was rares being hard to find. Look at the mithril vest complaint thread. How EXACTLY would you have handled it? Personally, I would ignore it and focus on easier fixes first. That is why I am not a Coder here. Writing a brand new system for rares was a monumental task, and bugs are to be expected. Problems are to be expected. 30+ posts complaining about one thing, focussed at one guy, without much in the way of suggestion doesn't help. I know it would just p me o. f0xx
When was that time when we were going 4-5 years without a coder? I've been back for 2-3 years now and we've always had an active coder. And why the hell is everyone using aliases nowadays? Is this the new trend now?
-Totenkopf-
I don't think all the people were having a rant. I certainly wasn't, just saying that I'd had the situation occur so it wasn't a once off. But yes, some people got a little out of control. This is a game, people value EQ like it is a wordly possession of theirs IRL.
jibber
Nothing was out of control. Some people were frustrated.. and I imagine they didn't go about it the way they SHOULD have, but that's no reason to go off on some rant shunning everyone who has a bad day. And I'm sure if it was that big of a deal, the Immortals themselves could have said something and shunned it (and I believe Zhokril DID, actually, in a post here somewhere). Nekky
I've been Nekky since I started playing in 1.0. I've come to three or four different forums and always kept Nekky ;p
ullquiora
I don't know guys. When it is about a bug I could see some frustration. Thirty posts about the same thing with each consecutively becoming more intense seems a bit much. Especially when they are vicariously aimed at the guy who is responsible for them. A few I could see, but thirty plus is a bit much.
ullquiora
(and I believe Zhokril DID' date=' actually, in a post here somewhere).[/quote'] He did, but it didn't stop anything. We just don't need to be running him off over his first major change. We've lost good staff due to this stuff.
jibber
I doubt we'll run the guy off. He knows we appreciate him, even if we get frustrated sometimes. Malchaeius knew what he was doing when he gave the mud over to Eshaine, and Eshaine knew what she was doing when she gave head coder to Zhokril. And this definitely isn't his first major change. I assume there were PLENTY others he was directly responsible for while Malchaeius ran things.
Imoutgoodbye
*golf claps* I blame Brehan. Seriously, though, good post. Although, I believe all our coders have been good to us and given us what they could and that's more than anyone has a right to ask. Anyone who wants to gripe about a change because it didn't go smoothly can...well, I'll be nice. It just needs to be said that patience is a virtue and Zhokril will make things work. We as players CHOOSE to put our time in. If it frustrates you so much that this ONE thing which WILL make things better is a little rough around the edges at first, wait for a while for it to work itself out. There are plenty of things to do besides play FL and the mud won't die if you take a couple weeks off. Me, I've always loved our staff, no matter which ones you want to point to and I've been here a good nine years now. Even when I was pulled up to the Serpent's Tongue for a disagreement my second year here, I've always set my personal indifferences aside and given the staff my full support. I encourage everyone to do the same. Disclaimer: I am not insinuating any one person does not give the staff their support. I am saying that if anyone needs to continually complain about policy/coding/etc...take it to the prayer forum and leave it there so we don't have any bandwagon politics forming. Croyvern
Aabahran was not created in a day, nor can it be expected to be made perfect in the course of a setting sun. Time heals all ails, and for those of you who forgit, Zhokril is the wraith of time himself. Let him choose his gate and ride him to the winner circle. Imoutgoodbye
You're always so reasonable. I love you so much right now and wish I could take this statement and make myself believe I'm always so reasonable. Hopefully my upcoming hiatus from FL to wander back into the real world and focus fully on my priorities will teach me more about myself. A wise man knows he's never done learning and I do so enjoy learning. I will one day be reasonable and logical. My time here on the forums as part of this community has already taught me so much, helped me build from the foundation I am. I need to get some sleep. I think I'm starting to make no sense or too much sense or...something. Good night:confused:
