f0xx
Alright, it is the 1st of May, month has passed, automatic expulsions are happening. Rares are still nowhere to be found. This leaves us with two options: 1. New rare code (which was supposed to rare purge shelved characters by itself) is not working properly. 2. Rare purge doesn't happen at the start of the month. I am not just guessing that, I've seen bointues being wiped in the middle of the month and rares appearing in the lands at the same time. This though, while calming, is not good, because Zhokril made his post about the new rare code on the first of april and that means the rare purge should have happened in the middle of april, which didn't. Now, don't take that as whining, I am just curious whether my guess is correct or am I missing something?
H&R
The total number of rares was cut down for some reason. I was rare purged, and lost plated helm, tiamat's scale, demon tongue, steel gauntlets, etc. But none of it re-appeared on the mobs after a world shift. Grishnak
Zhokril was very specific when he said that the number of rares would be significantly cut down, so that a rare was actually rare. This means that, once the numbers balance out (it'll take longer than a month) there should actually only be 1 or 2 of the super powerful rares. I'm wondering if the rare code was updated to purge people without them having to log back in (which caused some many problems in the past). I still think there have been plenty of rares in, as well. I've seen pretty much every non-group area rare in at some point over the past month.
mya
No Kesrick helms, minor globes, sabres, embers .... This ones used to be pretty much always in. Something is fishy in this rare situation. I'm predicting a low power era, where people will play mostly in Common gear (non rares). With a select few with god armors. Probably a good time to Invockers and Shamans as saves will be pretty hard to come by.

Zhokril
I've tried to explain this clearly a number of times, but I will try again since there is apparently still some confusion. I apologize if I haven't communicated what is going on properly. There are less rares around now than previously. This is because the "rare limit" wasn't really a limit before. The tracking system used to lose track of rares, meaning that the MUD would allow another of that rare to repop. Therefore, there were always a lot more rares around than there should have been. Now there are exactly how many rares the pfile count dictates there should be. Whether or not we decide to up the count on rares as a whole will be a decision made by the staff. However, everything that is happening and occurring right now is intentional.
Grishnak
Amen. Praise the Lord! Thanks Zhokril, I'm a big fan of the change.
mya
The thing is that intentionally there are now less rares available that in the past. Z fixed the bugged code, which is always a good thing. But he or the staff decided to not adjust the number of rares available to the previous levels of availability. This i do not like, because we just got a Rare number Nerf. You can say that you prefer this new availability levels, I do not. You need some specific rares to fight some classes. Such as cursed weapons. Or Mal saves. If your Mal saves are bad, you are dead vs a shaman. There is little you can do to beat one that lands his spells half the time. There was a reason that Viri made a Mal EQ list available to us. And that Kesrick helm a -10 mal was always available. Here is the OLD helm, just to give you an idea how it was years ago. Kesrick helm OLD Object 'double plated helm' is type armor, material steel. Extra flags: glow. Weight is 3, value is 15, level is 35. Armor class is 7 pierce, 9 bash, 8 slash, and 7 vs. magic. Affects str by 1. Affects savingmental by -6. Affects savingmaled by -4. Rare item. The old system worked. Sure we had a few problem with high end gear (Nimbus,AByss ring, Orb of Something), but the facts that some lowend rares acted as common (by being on 100%) made the game much more enjoyable for me. I wan't to see what the rest of you will say when someone gathers a god suit and rapes the Pbase cause no one has rares to block him.
jibber
I'm fine with the change. However the staff could have done a rare purge in the process, so those who already had those kick-*** rares in the first place didn't get to keep them and continue dominating. I'm sure we'd have a lot less whining right about now, too.
Twinblades713
Well the people it would have purged have been defeated. I think people who whine will find something to whine about regardless. :3 I have a few characters who can't find eq, but when I go up and fight... say three seperate battles and they are all equally horribly equipped, I find myself getting excited again. It's less about making yourself invulnerable and more about using teh skeelZ!
L-A
I've always been able to kill shaman and invokers without saves. I generally avoid clerics when I don't have afflictive but they are so common its easy to get ready for them. Disarmers are PITA without a norem weapon, but there are non-rare cursed and nodrop readily available if you know where to look. This actually makes the skill useful again. Less rares is a good things IMHO - we will go back to having to use non-rare eq to fill slots and hunt around for what we can. More skill instead of just doing 302839048329032094385290 eq trips every week and praying your bash spamming will overpower the other guy. It will be interesting to see how things play out. And you know' date=' I'm not against a rare purge, [b']but it better be for the right reasons (and not for reasons of people not being decked, because they log off when they see trouble). So NOW that you died and lost your nice suit (and someone else has it) we have the right reasons? How was the word... hypocrite?
Twinblades713
There's f0xx again, calling them like he sees them. Except lately.... I'm inclined to agree with him. Not just on this topic. What's the world coming to?
jibber
Wut? So NOW that you died and lost your nice suit (and someone else has it) we have the right reasons? How was the word... hypocrite? Seriously? Now you're calling me out? You want to know how I died? Thus far, I've posted once in defense of it, and my post was edited. Perhaps I shouldn't even bother telling everyone what happened because, GOD FORBID, it'll make someone else look bad. We -can't- have that. Oh HELL no. And no, I'm fine with my characters at present. They are equipped and have, believe it or not, triumphed over those few characters who have my current equipment several times. Still, half the playerbase logs off when I log on. Pity them, because come the rare purge next month, I'll get my hands back on what's mine the old fashioned way. Thirdly, I don't know what's more reason than now, where no one had godly rares except one or two people. While everyone was whining and complaining, there were plenty of rares to go about. My alt was in the process of equipping very well, and I also was able to get a thief equipped four or five times in godly gear, and some dark-knight very well equipped. I'll mention that Mephisoleer also has been purged several times as well, and has come back out on top. Now, at the beginning of this month however, as you very blatantly pointed out with no care for what the Immortals continue to tell you, there are absolutely no rares. I logged on Zaulael tonight (ON accident) and he was just THEN purged of the two pendants and several other pieces of gear he held. He also received 3 or 4 bounties of gear that's currently not around that I had to sacrifice. A rare purge, for this instance, would keep this from happening on every other character in the same position that Zaulael was. I had things I hadn't seen on Valk in over 2 months, and were obviously not there in the last couple of days. So, to defend myself -- I am no hypocrite. Anything else you'd like to point out f0xx? Suffering leads to ice cream' date=' ice cream leads to jazzercise, jazzercise leads to fear![/quote'] Ahh the circle of dread. Personally, I have seen enough attacks on Jibber. As well as enough counterstrikes. I am coming to believe that some people need a vacation from this forum. If the staff does not agree, thats their business, but upon the next "hate" driven post by irritated players who havent the "gear" they want, I will seve myself a forum ban. Preceeded by deletion threads of all my characters, and a permanent farewell. I enjoy the company of adults, thus why I play on a pg13 mud. If I want to/have to read the rants of spoiled children I will go to Nickolodeon.com. I asked you all once to be merciful, do I need to make a drow healer for you to get the point? If you want to attack each other, do it in PM's, Do NOT make the rest of us read your trash talk. Where I come from we call what you all are doing "pulling it out and putting it on the table", and someone always goes home embarassed and angry. This is a game for the love of Anume, and your constant attacks on each other are ruining the FUN. (edit) Twinblades and Corpsestomp are obviously being humorous, humor is a tool we use to avoid other strong emotions. I do not consider their replies to the attacks, as attacks per say. My apologies to any of you who are offended by this post, especially the two I quoted.

Just to clarify for everyone, just because you got the message then doesn't mean you were purged at that time. The message is simply stored until the next time you log on. Offline characters are included in the monthly purges.
