Audio Drivers/System Sounds

So, anyways, my wife downloaded some screwy video player that had a virus...I got rid of it all, except it apparently took some of my audio drivers with it when I banished it.

Now my computer says it has NO audio devices. Where can I get some free downloads to put the sound back into my computer?

On a side note, what did you do for removal of the virus? Chances are if it got in and chopped off drivers, it is probably still lurking deep in the bowels of windows.

Well, it technically didn't do the chopping. *cough* I ran a manual search with Avast and Stopzilla and manually removed all corrupted files myself. It's my favored method of dealing with quarantined viruses/files...unless they're root files, in which case I'd just wipe the whole computer.

Download Tempcln.exe and CF.exe. Run CF first, say yes or ok to anything it asks, then after it runs (15-20 min) run tempcln. Tempcln should put 3 icons on your desktop, you can delete those if you want.

A virus that invades cabs? Thats odd. Especially since you can make cabs password protected. If it did not invade cabs, then the original copies of your drivers should have been fine.(as it only messed with the ones your computer copied from cabs) Even if they(cabs) were corrupted, your system CD has copies, even if your sound card is aftermarket.

Viruses can do some amazin amazin things after you work around them for a bit.

The entire cabs folder was gone. I had to re-create it and the sub folder for the part number and manually seperate unzipped files. I've NEVER seen anything like it before. *shrug* But I'm the one that scrapped it in the first place. I'm overly aggressive when I find my computer infected. It pisses me off because it should not be happening in the first place.
