Yes, because a game having been inspired by GTA must mean it sucks, since the GTA games have been so terrible...

Trust me. Very different from GTA in a lot of ways - the interface is the main element borrowed from it.

Pali you are awfully opinionated for a mustard thief :)

On a side note I personally did not enjoy any part of the GTA series. THe concept was ok, but I always got halfway through and did not care to finish the game because it just got old. I was doing the same type missions in a different part of town. It had the potential to be a jaw dropper, but in the end it felt like I was playing the jet ski level from battle toads.

As far as gun I kind of enjoyed the "showdown" mechanic. It illustrated the need for a fast draw, and accurate trigger timing. Sadly it failed in most other portions. As far as Red Dead Revolver I did enjoy that installment of the western series. But in video game history, westerns have never been great. They might have one good title once in a while, but they get plagued by horrible mechanics, and poorly functioning camera angles. If they could make an oblivion style western I feel it would do better. Just I always dislike the engine that they choose to use. I think that a good western style game can exist, it just needs to blend more towards Fallout/Oblivions engine, and mapping style. Restricting the "wild" west is just counterproductive.

Having tried it... I'm knocking away. It's a shiny version of Gun. They haven't done anything to add much skill factor into whether or not you survive imo. Right now...a wii remote adaption for a revolver, similar to the gun thing they made for a MoH game a while back, is the ONLY way you'll improve the action shooter flavor of western games. I mean... mashing the button repeatedly is not the same as having a vaguely gun shaped object in your hands.

Ahh... I'd say that you missed a huge amount of the game then. There is simply so much to do... gambling in various forms (I've played at least an hour of hold 'em in RDR - probably more), hunting, foraging, a great story, a huge and beautiful world to explore, random people coming up to you looking for help every few minutes, and the combat's a ton of fun once you get used to it (and way, way more challenging and fun on expert mode than on normal).

Again, just personal opinions... and I can't deny the GTA inheritances, but I feel like it's taken the best things from GTA and built on them into it's own thing.
