Below is a list of the top 8 links FL has been receiving traffic from, and the total clicks they have supplied. I thought this might be interesting, so as to explain the soon to come advertising campaign I've in mind (at least some of it. :) )

Okay. Now that may seem like some gibberish to you. Let me break it down so that even a plasm beast can understand it. What we are looking at above is a list of our Top 8 links that exist on the internet and the traffic our buddies at g$$gle have shown to come our way from them. Some things of note :

1) From TMS, for the few years it has been counting, we have had a grand total of 197 unique hits. Now that is decent traffic because many of those people WANT to play muds. The problem is presented to you in the form of a question. How many of those hits are from you guys, and your many IPs?

2) Crypticant's website advertising a different game has produced nearly double the number of hits in the year it has been up, than TMS has since Google has been counting hits for us. Another question. Why?

3) The second runner up for hits, after Crypticant's site, is some blog post a random guy wrote on a popular forum. That player most likely isn't even here anymore. How did it produce so many hits? If you read the post, it barely even mentions FL!

I would dare to venture that TMS is growing increasingly more worthless. That isn't to say your voties are not appreciated but let us look at these very basic facts :

Good SEO Content Site (crypticant's) > Forum Name Drops > TMS

Stage One of my plan was this (and still is.) I am submitting articles for FL on major content sites. Most of these articles namedrop FL in some way similar to Crypticant's. Each one of these articles will EVENTUALLY produce traffic for the site. It usually takes a month or two for google to do it's little dance, but it will show.

Stage Two is for forums. As shown above, every little name drop, or signature adds up! I don't care if you say FL sucks donkey yarbles for crack on the weekends, and provide a link. It is proven to draw traffic from the search engines AND from the forum. If you do this like a jerk, your post will get deleted from other forums. If you do this maturely like the post that person left, you will help out immensely over time. After all, forums are a place for exchanging ideas. If you are a respected member of any community, sharing your love of a game on the wayside will be tolerated if not embraced by that community. How many of us talk about other games here?

Stage Three is more complicated, in a simple way. I need 20 people to donate their signatures on other forums for a pretty banner of FL or text link. This may seem pretty simple, but only three people have offered.

Stage Four is more of a IMP/Ullquiora thing but I thought I would share. Over the next few months we will be making money from the contents you submitted. I am search engine BOMBING the bastards until the point where Google and Yahoo will vomit if they hear the name Valek or Aulian again. This money will be used to buy up targeted traffic through different ad methods. More articles = more money = more traffic = more players. I am also talking to the folks at MMORPG.com, Ebaumsworld, Zuggsoft, and I-Am-Bored trying to see who is more willing to strike a deal for us.

I am hoping that, by outlining the plans, I can get more people on board to help out. In honesty, it is a struggle to do this with so few hands.

Again, I come back to highly recommending the administration establishes FL as a non-profit entity. This allows donations to the MUD to be tax write-offs and it doesn't cost much money to get started.

Most importantly, however, it allows for Google Grants. With a Google Grant you'll get $10,000 monthly advertising on Google. That means you can target keyword google searches and have your ad pop up any time people type in certain words. An additional income source is free CC processing through the grant, but I don't think that would apply immediately.

I'm happy to help with the process, just PM me and I'll do what I can from my little slice of paradise (that has crappy internet).
