Jedi_Donkey
I try so hard sometimes to RP with people and they seem to want to have nothing to do with it. Some people are open to it, but it's rare these days. When do people normally get on to RP, I wanna RP DAMN IT!
Atticus
yo find a ninja- He'll RP with you.... You just have to come out of your shell man. At least im able to say I can notice when someone wants to RP. and I indulge em. RP is the best aspect of this game, I used to just want to kill..... But now, RP is the shinznit. Demiterracotta
Don't know who you play, but I try to RP with everyone. However the amount of time I'm allocating to sitting in a room with one person is always tempered by quite a few factors. a) How many people in my PK range am I unfamiliar with? How many people in my PK range do I KNOW are hunting me? c) How much playtime do I have? If I log in to do something specific I will apologize but I will do what I planned on doing before the time I can play runs out. d) Am I feeling your RP? Are you trying to hard to RP with me or does it feel like it's flowing and I can find a Niche to work my character's personality into it? If my Character's personality does not fit with your RP I'm not going to talk to you much. I will not change my RP to fit another persons. It's like running into those people who you know but don't really mesh with at all. You're looking for a reason to escape. Just my thoughts, maybe I have been lucky but lately I have had some amazing interactions with quite a few people. Even the ones who I don't really like from a character perspective have been friendly and not pushy.
f0xx
You have to be the change you want to see. Lead with self example and do not think that if you engage RP with someone, he has to dump what he is doing and immediately start RPing with you. RP for the RP itself, not to get noticed. Zavero
If you are trying to get level 50's to RP with you then you might be looking in the wrong place. Some of them can but you also must remember that life at 50 isn't just RP. PK is very involved and sometimes doesn't leave you much time to get a good RP session going. I am only assuming you are not level 50. I do not know if that is the actual case.
Implementor Anume Posted October 8, 2010 Implementor Report Share Posted October 8, 2010 There is really 0 reason why 50s should just rp with other 50s. I'd call ignoreing someone for not being level 50 bad rp 99% of the time.
Zavero
Whoa now. I never said don't role play with people who aren't 50. I said it isn't always easy for a 50 to stop and role play when they are in the middle of fighting other 50s.
-Totenkopf-
I haven't had an issue to tell you the truth. Some people are busy, fair enough, however, on many occassions, people don't mind having a chat. I am by no means stellar in the flashy RP department. I still cannot work out why I just cant get the hang of it. I am not a very creative person in real life, driven by logic. This may be a large part of the reason. I've also got alot of things going on in real life at the moment - infact, I've got to go to the hospital again now, my grandfather has just been transferred to ICU. I do not suspect he'll be coming out I, in generally, dont have issues with lvl 50's ignoring me.
jibber
I've never had a problem RPing with 50s as a non-50. However I have had problems rping with non-50's due to me not having the time of day to give to them sometimes. It seems that whenever a lowbie wants to RP with me it's because I'm knee-deep in a ****-hole of PK.. and its hard to pay any attention to the lil green tells that fly by while you're either running, chasing, or beating on someone else. Though lately, haven't had a problem. Yay to strictly (mostly) RP builds for crappy connections!
Pali
Can't say my experiences mirror yours... I'm not playing much lately, but when I do, I have little trouble striking up RP with people - even people of the opposite alignment. A little tip: if you see someone on where that you're looking to RP with that's in your PK range, send them an IC tell to somehow let them know that you're not looking for a fight before you walk in. Most people, in my experience, will happily allow chatting and "RP" to happen before any sort of PK.

So in the end, do your best to immerse yourself in RP- and if you really want it.... people will notice- just taje the time and care to prepare. To all, I hope to see you in game- and I'll do my very best to search out every last one of you and RP. THATS A PROMISE! And I do what I say! Thats my ninja way. Grim_Reefer
Its not so much that people don't RP, but its that everybody sucks at RP. I'm tired of, "Blah blah blah, omg the voices in muh head" or "Life? More like pain..." or like, "yip yip." or just generally horrible crap. Manboobs usually has interesting RP angles, you guys could learn from him. Where was I going with this.... Oh yeah. Man, inflexible RP is what gets me. It seems like a ton of people have this "Stick to your guns" rp attitude when they roll, which makes their characters lame. When I say "stick to your guns", I mean that they roll and do not allow themselves to be influenced by their surroundings. I like to see characters that will take turns in their RP and come out something totally different than when they started. I like to roll with the punches and sometimes change ideals and RP based around other peoples characters and situations we may be in. I love RPing with people and can't wait to get my new project up and running so I can jump in.

I always allow experiences to influence my RP and I've found it can lead to some of the better things that have happened to me IG. edit: And I'm all for throwing something at low levels when I'm at 50. Sometimes its a tell, and sometimes it is a sit down RP session. On the other hand if you're level 50 and a known pk monster, I might be a little jumpy about sitting around with you nearby. Hilltop
For my characters I tend to create a backstory that goes only up to their creation. I'll then rp them as if they just arrived by ship, just came in from the forrest to join the big city, etc. They have goals but yeah it's very important to be flexible. Just for myself but I've found that if I rp consistantly as I'm online even actions when I'm alone (I rp'd my parent's funeral once) that the character develops more and becomes his own person, not a design in my head. Imoutgoodbye
Just to be utterly redundant... *pulls out a large leather bound volume nearly as thick as he is tall* *puts on his reading glasses and begins quickly flipping through all the pages* No, I do not have anything from yesterday through the year 2031 that shows any funeral plans for RP. *slams the book shut* We good, right? mmajunkie
From what I have experienced RP isn't dead but it definitely is not what it used to be. I've seen numerous notes go out to the public from Herald with ZERO response from anyone in game. But I have also seen some little plots brewing with multiple characters involved. It's just hit and miss. Find something going on and join in, that's all I can tell you.

jibber
When I had the Lottery thing going on, I had 9 people sign up. 1 of them was an immortal, and 4 of them I pretty much had to beg to sign up. I was pretty much giving away huge sums of gold for.. 1,000 gold per entry. NO ONE else bothered to sign up. Seriously. Nobody. It was so frustrating. I even had someone reply to me: I don't read notes anymore, how does this Lottery thing work? *face-palm*

mmajunkie
And who is gonna update the mobs? Who decides what is important enough to mention? So much RP comes and is gone before it even gets started. This will end up jsut being another thing for people to complain about. "My RP didn't get mentioned in the gossip!!" "My RP took two weeks to get updated in the gossip!" RP-MUDs are meant to be player controlled, IMM supervised. That is the nature of a true RP world. That is not what FL has and thus you and the world are limited and confined to the time/desire of people you cannot control. RP is not dead, it is just no longer truly dynamic. It is like trying to run a small, local business but any decision has to get approved by someone else, implemented by someone else, and so on. You aren't actually running the business at all and you have no power. Your business will not grow at the speed it should, if it grows at all. And you are helpless because there is nothing you can do. The people who have to approve and the people who have to implement are just doing their job though, they can't be blamed right? They think they are doing the right thing. Even if your business fails, there will be another business for them to oversee.
Imoutgoodbye
Since when did we go from RP to talking about positive/negative externalities twisted by government over small business? People just need to learn how to read. The same people that don't read notes won't sit around and wait for the gossip mobs to cycle or they'll complain they're too repetitive...blah blah blah lots more whining blah blah blah.... And the irony is that all we freakin' do when we mud is READ! There are several problems with RP attitude currently and anyone who wants to talk about RP being dead should think about these steps: 1) How willing are you to validate another person's RP? (You don't have to agree with it, just acknowledge it and react somehow) 2) How well are you portraying your own RP? (Don't expect everyone to get all your RP at once. Especially when you're playing in hints, riddles, and secrets) 3) How wiling are you to cram emotes, pmotes, and smotes through my eye sockets? (They really do take you to the next level) 4) How interested/up to date are you keeping your character on current events? (The more a part of the world you seem, the more interesting you and everyone around you becomes) If we cannot critically self-reflect on ourselves before we begin to problematize a general situation then things are going to decline starting with us. Most things start at home like math. Start inside, then work your way out.
