Suicide?

Sure, but I would expect your character to really be gone forever if you do. IG speaking, you should never strive to end your own life, or the immortals will 'see' that and grant you your wish. (True Condeath. Permanently gone) You should never throw away lives, fighting someone foolishly, knowing you'll die, etc.

Yeah but...

GUH! I made this character, and **** happens every night that throws me so far off that I sit back and scratch my head going, "what the hell just happened?" I mean all day yesterday (friday) I kept telling my friends about her story. All of them are seriously interested in seeing how things turn out for her, but today... I've yet to ever want to kill a character off, but in this case... I came close simply because this one was so far into despair...

To be blunt, she loves the world... but it hates her for it. and calls her stupid and weak.

That really wears on a young girl with huge goals/dreams...

Heh. There are always gonna be EVIL people out there. The real heart comes from showing people how wrong they are. My main character is basically designed to be hated by about everyone. :) It's never a BAD thing to be disagreed with, or hated. That's RP for you. Why would a drow ever like an elf or vice versa? The roles they play are to hate each other. It's the lifeblood of FL. :)

The reason we even have pk, is because in a game like this, there can always be a reason to want someone dead.

Liadon, your case is a very strange one and perhaps the first (and only) I've ever met.

While most of us are here for the PK/RP feeling FL gives us, you are here entirely and solely about RP.

While I admire your desire to RP, completely ignoring the other part of the equation (PK) will eventually lead to people who like to PK to ignore you.

This though, does not mean those people don't RP.

Not just that - you don't know the game at the moment. For you to have a complete feeling in the virtual world of FL you need to get to know it, to experience it, to navigate through it, to learn.

When I first met your character ingame I tried to help you and teach you some stuff. I was a bit surprised by the fact that you didn't seem to want to learn. Why? You reply was: "I don't need that, I am here to RP". While I admire that, you need to understand that such attitude itself is OOC. No matter how well you use the emote system (and I must say I was impressed, for a new player). I think a lot of the people here don't realize how new you are - you don't know how to navigate through rheydin, you don't know where the fountains are, you don't know where the guilds are, you don't know where to buy food from. Hell you don't know how to get from Northern commons to central commons. And that is with a map in front of you.

To put it straight - at the moment your character (you) don't know the basic things you need to survive i.e. where to buy food and water from and how to earn money to buy them. In real life, how would you treat someone with such a problem? In character, what attitude do you expect other characters to have towards your character? The best way they can see it is as a child (goods) or as a retard (evil).

Now what significance would a child or a retard have in any major RP plot? And what attitude do you expect other characters to have towards a child or a retard?

Now don't get me wrong. I am all for RP. But sitting in CC playing cards with another character (for example) is also RP. That kind of RP though has little roots in a dangerous environment like FL.

The people here are villains and heroes known throughout the lands. If you want to solely RP, then good, but it is only up to you to make that RP impressive and creative enough so it can make others (even those who like to PK) want to RP with you. I highly doubt you will be able to succeed in that without knowing the basics about FL.

The old saying says, first learn to crawl, then learn to walk. RP is not as easy at it seems, because for good RP you need at least two, and since RP unlike PK can't be forced, you need to intrigue people so they RP. In RP there is a factor which I like to call "coolness" factor. An RP plot about a dodgeball tournament and an RP plot about killing a God of Chaos have coolness factors and I am sure you can figure out in which RP plot people will like participating more.

Also, if you want people to be completely in character when they meet you ingame, do not openly say who you play and do not speak from the name of your character here in the forums.

Well I'm having fun and I am also learning the world too!

With amazing allied characters such as Pwint and Instia. Who would have known a Drow and an Elf would be on speaking terms!?

*cocks a smile*

The world is still a little shady here and there, but for the most part I can get to where I want too without needing any outside help. Besides that, I NEVER use the newbie chat anymore. I ask any question I have in-character to the players I'm with.

Besides...

I'm not bitching about the game, I'm fussing about the RP's and that's not even serious... There's nothing about Forsaken Lands that I don't love. Everything and everyone is AMAZING! The Moderators have been extremely helpful, friendly and patient.

I AM learning the game. EVERYTHING about it, when I get to PKing I'll focus on that. For now, I'm learning the world, and those that live in it.

*nods*

Thanks for the advice though.

That's what I wanted to make sure :)

Have in mind you can RP while you hunt and while you do quests and trips. Even when your character (or the one you hunt with) doesn't talk much, it's still RP. Everything that is not OOC is RP :P

While a bit blunt, f0xx comes up with some really good points. At the same time, I think Liadon is a great starting character for someone new to FL. I find very few people start so adept at RP. If your biggest problem is figuring out how to gain ranks efficiently, or how to run from Val to Miruvhor in a minute, then sh!t, you're where I wish I had been in the first month of my FL life.

You've got time. :)

I haven't RPed with only a select few for a couple days now. All of them have been understanding enough to let me work out the kinks.

As for RPing I'm almost certain that Liadon will "feel" like to completely fleshed out character. When I RP her she's the same person from one interaction to the next, carrying whatever drama from the last into the new one. As for traveling around and learning the layout of the land. I'm still memorizing it. that's it. SImply memorizing the paces and general directions to get from point a to point b. I plan on making Liadon stick around for a LONG time. I've grown very close to her as a player, we're both learning how to be cool like all of you.

Seriously, I've seen some pretty cool characters so far. I think all of you are amazing. Seriously.

Seems like I keep repeating that... LoL

Stick with us. Each character is something new. Another adventure. Another story we can all share with each other.

Each time a character leaves, it's an empty sadness. I regret (especially with the new ways I'm learning to think in) of the emptiness I left behind with so many deletions.

Miscreant/Orealt are the prime example of when deletion is okay. Taking it to the bitter end, to the last of the lives, or finishing the story somehow is the greatest way to go out. I want that so badly now. To finish a story. :(

Well my friend hopefully I can be there to help you when you do! Or to at least experience it.

I've gotten to see a story come to a full and complete end in my past years of Forum Based RPing. And I have to say... it's the most satisfying feeling one can ever feel after spending countless hours RPing. Here in MUD-land I'm sure that feeling would be multiplied ten fold. Because there are so many factors to worry about when trying to achieve your own goals. In any case I as a player want to help anybody else's character out. Period. Let it be following them in a story-line or simply RPing with them and helping them flesh things out more.

I'm confident Lia has become the most fleshed out character I have ever created. and in 10 years of strictly RPing that's a lot of characters. Not only that but I feel it's harder to be fleshed out here. Like I said, there are SO many factors to worry about and so many skilled RPers exist in the world and all of them have convincing characters. For real, I've yet to meet one that hasn't made Lia think differently about something.

LoL
