Mindflayer
You've been warned by the title. You know what grinds my gears lately? Perks and people abusing them for game mechanics rather than RP. When was the last time you saw someone actually roleplaying an alcoholic or addict? Yea, same here. Rare to none. If you're going to be alcoholic.. PLAY the part. Thanks, love Mindflayer.
jibber
I can agree, somewhat. The perks unfortunately aren't there to necessarily ONLY enhance RP. Although it would be nice if it did enhance both RP and PK and the mechanics to make a character easier to play... Ever notice that Istendil's perk is Pious? I get absolutely nothing but extra gold from sacrifices. Completely and utterly useless PK wise, but useful RP wise (and the reason I picked it). Don't let it bother you if people power game in this game. I've done it. You've done it. It happens. But we evolve.. and some people are slower than others. Demiterracotta
I don't even know what the power-gaming perks are however I can tell you I will NEVER pick addict or alcoholic. Because my RP at being one will suck really bad. That and drunk talk annoys the crap out of me. But at the same time I can understand why some of the perks are picked for psuedo power-gaming reasons (Lucky anyone?). And some are harder to RP outside of your description than others. I agree on some days with the grinding of gears, on others I just think to myself in my always sarcastic voice: 'I wonder if we should take lots on how long this one lasts.'. It could just be the short time I've been here and recent trends, but a lot of power-gaming characters don't last as long, (Yes there are SOME) while some of the more unusual combos last a lot longer. In short, I feel your pain, and you should start arresting people for NOT disturbing the peace by a) acting drunk or trying to score drugs in your pristine cities. Mmm Coffee
It's ironic how if you don't take the addict perk but still use herbs, you end up acting more like an addict eventually

samag08
I am really surprised Mya has not suggested yet that herbs are only available to those with the addict perk.

Imoutgoodbye
You SURE thats the only thing your in the closet about? You don't understand.... I mean, I look and I look and I try to control myself, but people don't understand when I stare. It's so hard to control myself around them. I mean, one I can handle, but when there's two...it's not fair! I should be able to be me! I shouldn't have to stay in this closet. I LOVE COLBY CHEESE AND RITZ CRACKERS! Amaruil
I've seen a few well-rped alcoholics over the years. As for the "addict perk" - It specifically states that you resist the negative effects of drugs in the perk title. Doesn't that, by it's very statement, eliminate you from playing what we think of as an "addict?"
The Professor
most addicts do build up a tolerance over prolonged use of whatever happens to be their choice poison. as far as RPing perks, I think it really depends on the specific character. (it should be a part of your rp/story but that doesn't mean that it has to be something noticeable) you could be an alcoholic, but you try to keep it a secret or you feel compelled to drink all the time because you enjoy getting drunk or "whatever" but, you have built up a tolerance...so you drink...but don't feel the affects of being drunk (which is how the perk works) it could even be racial...most dwarves would be considered alcoholics because they are known to drink all the time, but they have a strong constitution (this could apply to giants too) and it takes A LOT for them to get drunk. The-Nameless
I think this type scenario is generated by some perks being more beneficial than others. Do I wanna train faster, or eat less. Hrm.....

Mindflayer
I've seen a few well-rped alcoholics over the years. My favorite one being good old Raargant. He made me want to drink everytime I roleplayed with him. That and pick up mountains.
